BYU has a strong tendency under coach Dave Rose to play relatively better against bad teams than they do against good teams and that has especially been the case this season. The Cougars are 0-5 straight up and 0-5 ATS this season against NCAA Tournament caliber opponents (Notre Dame, Iowa State, Baylor, St. Mary’s, and Gonzaga), including a 1 point home loss to St. Mary’s. BYU is now just 19-43-1 ATS after a win when not favored by more than 3 points, including 0-9 ATS as an underdog of more than 6 points, so this is not a good spot for the Cougars. St. Mary’s nearly qualifies in a good home sweep angle and I’d take St. Mary’s in a 2-Star Best Bet at -7 points or less.
