Analysis: At 7:35 pm, our selection is on the Ottawa Senators over the New York Rangers. Many people predicted that the Rangers would be one of the favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup finals when all was said and done this year thanks to their off-season acquisition of star forward Rick Nash from the Columbus Blue Jackets. But the Rangers are treading water at this point with a 16-13-3 record and what's particularly alarming, and will need to change if they're going to have any chance in the postseason (assuming they make it there) is their extremely poor performance in road games. Heading into tonight, the Rangers are just 6-7-1 in games away from Madison Square Garden, and New York is going to have to do better than that if the team is going to compete after April. The Rangers will need to dig down deep and wake up the offense tonight because when you play the Senators on their home ice this season, you're facing one of the most stifling defenses in the history of the league. Ottawa has allowed just 27 goals in 17 games this season at Scotiabank Place, for an unbelievable 1.59 goals-against per game. These two have played twice already this season, with the Senators winning both games by identical 3-2 scores. Take Ottawa.

Analysis: At 10:15 pm, our selection is on the La Salle Explorers + the points over Wichita State. This match-up is an unlikely one, no doubt, with the 9th-seeded Shockers facing the 13th-seeded Explorers. But we will fade Wichita State tonight, as the Shockers fall into a negative system of mine that's 33-65 ATS since 1993. What we want to do is play against any team off back to back covers by more than 10 points (provided its opponent is not off the same margin of ATS wins). But that's not the best part. If our play-against team is favored (or PK), then our 65-33 ATS angle zooms to 30-8 ATS! With Wichita in off a 73-55 win over Pitt (as a 4.5-point dog) in Round 1, and then a 76-70 win over Gonzaga (as a 6.5-point dog) in Round 2, it falls squarely within our negative 8-30 ATS system. On the surface, Wichita's win over the #1 seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs is impressive. Until one reflects on the fact that Gonzaga almost became the first #1 seed to lose to a 16 seed (Southern U.) just two days earlier. Clearly, the Bulldogs were a soft team, and over-seeded. Wichita will be the 5th team seeded No. 9 to advance to the Sweet 16 since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985. Three of the other four #9 seeds lost in this round. The key to Wichita's upset win over Gonzaga was that it made an inordinate amount of 3-point goals (14), but it converted just 2-of-20 three-point shots vs. Pitt in Round 1. And La Salle is terrific at defending the 3-point goal, as it gives up just 29.9% (against teams that otherwise average 34.3%). Take La Salle + the points.
