4-Unit Play. #707. Take Iowa -2 over Baylor (Thursday @ 9pm est).
I think Iowa is the better team here and their defense will be key in doing well today. You have to give Iowa's program a lot of credit as despite the limited resources and recruiting compared to other Big10 teams, or the fact that this team did not go to the Dance, this team is still playing in the post-season and has had a good showing this year. Iowa has played in the best basketball conference in America this year, coached well by Fran McCaffery, beat Virginia on the road by 11, beat Maryland by 11, sports a top 20 defense and a top 35 offense to boot. Compare that with who sports a top 80 defense and I think that will be the key today. Iowa has the ability to play great defense and this is a team that beat Wisconsin at home and nearly beat Michigan State and Indiana this year losing by a couple of points to each team. I suspect they will frustrate Baylor's athleticism by grinding out the pace which will work to their favor. When Baylor played BYU, BYU likes to run a bit more but this Iowa team will make this a possession game and though I think Scott Drew is a great coach and he has put Baylor Basketball on the map, I believe that Coach McCaffery is the better game planner and he'll have his boys ready to play this evening with the right scheme.

Take Chicago Bulls +4.5 over Brooklyn Nets (Thursday @ 7:05pm est).The Brooklyn Nets have made their way back to the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York after a lengthy road trip that concluded with a blow-out of the Cleveland Cavaliers last night. The Nets are (3-9) ATS in their last (12) home games and (5-13) ATS in their last (18) home games following a road trip of (7) or more days. The Nets have to out-score their opponents to win as Brooklyn is loaded with veteran guys who have proven to be offense first. Chicago continues to be the forgotten commodity in the Eastern Conference. But head coach Tom Thibodeau is terrific and the Bulls have won without Rose in the past. They have relied on their strong defense to win games this season. They were also the best rebounding team in the NBA last year. The Bulls HC Tom Thibodeau knows that defense wins championships and defense is the trademark in the way their teams play the game. Chicago has covered this game twice and the Bulls team has a feel for the Nets squad this year. The Bulls beat this team 96-85 at home earlier this year and though the Nets have revenge, I suspect the Nets will not be as excited to play a Bulls team that just lost to the Wizards, who is out without Rose or Noah as well. With Brooklyn coming off a huge win against Cleveland on the road, and given how small this line has opened up, don't be a bit surprised to see the Bulls roll in and look to bounce-back from the ugly Wizards loss and win this game Outright. Our last selection was against the Bulls against the Wizards and our selection today, will be on the Bulls given this spot. The Bulls are 4-0 ATS when they face a team with a straight up winning record and the Nets are 2-8 ATS when they face a team with a straight up winning record.

4-Unit Play. #62. Take Nashville -150 over Columbus (Thursday @ 8:05pm est).
Nashville is the better team here and this is not a bad price to lay with them on home ice. This is a Nashville team that is 10-3-4 at home thus far this season and they beat Columbus 5-2 earlier this year and did lose to them 4-3 in the early game before that. Nashville is aware that they cannot take this team lightly or they can lose like the first game they faced them in rather than the second result. In fact, Columbus has beat them in 2 out of 3 games this year which serves as a motivation for this team to do well to even the series up as the better team. Plus, Nashville has won 4 of its last 5 at home, Columbus is 4-10-2 away from home, the Blue Jackets are 16-46 in their last set of road games and the Predators are 35-16 in their last 51 home games. The Blue Jackets are also 3-23 in their last 26 meetings in Nashville.

5-Unit Play. #963. Take Baltimore +105 over Tampa Bay (Thursday @ 3:10pm est).
Both these teams are 1-1 thus far this young season. Baltimore is a well coached team and as they come off a 7-8 loss yesterday and look to bounce-back, plus having a pitcher in Gonzalez who went 9-4 with a 3.25 era last year, I suspect that they will have a good chance to do well today. The Orioles have put together a good group of players and the fact that this young man has shot up from the minors into the rotation says a lot about his preparation and what this organization thinks of him. Plus, the Rays are 1-1 with a 3.38 era against him lifetime which is a good spot to have for a game that could be high scoring such as yesterday. Roberto Hernandez is 4-4 with a 5.40 era against the Orioles lifetime and he is 2-1 with a 4.94 lifetime in Tropicana Field. If you look at the numbers closer, you will find that at least 5 players on the Orioles lineup have a lifetime batting average of at least .333 against Gonzalez (minimum of 7 at bats). I like Baltimore here to bounce-back with the better pitcher this afternoon.
