Bettors believe in Spurs with East finals going the distance
The San Antonio Spurs are the Robert Redfords of the NBA, looking better and better with age.
And, with the Eastern Conference finals stretching the full seven games and San Antonio making quick work of the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western championship, the Spurs have never been more attractive to bettors heading into the NBA Finals.
According to online book CarbonSports.ag, the longer the Eastern finals have drawn out the more money is convinced San Antonio can win the NBA title. The Spurs were priced at +200 to win the championship after sweeping the Grizzlies on May 27 and have been bet down to as low as +150 heading into Game 7 of the Eastern Conference championship.
“Once the Heat showed their vulnerability against the Pacers, we've written a ton of Spurs future money,” Michael Stewart, an oddsmaker with CarbonSports.ag, told Covers. “Most of that money has come at +200, +180 and now +150.”
Stewart says the possible series prices for the NBA Finals will have San Antonio set around the same odds versus the Miami Heat (-220) but the Spurs could be as low as -200 against the Indiana Pacers, giving great value to those who grabbed up the Western Conference champs early.
“If that's the case, all those Spurs future tickets look great going into Thursday night's Game 1,” says Stewart.
