The Confederations Cup is a very underrated footy tournament. Each squad will feature some if its best talent and so the event will be filled with some of the best players on the planet.
Brazil and Spain lead the way as the odds on favorites to be outright winner, but there is some value with prop bets such as top goalscorer.
The Barcelona-bound Man of Many Hairstyles is undoubtedly one of the most skillful players on the planet and will be inspired more than ever to put on a good showing for the home fans. Especially after getting booed by supporters at the London Olympics after a poor display.
The Outsider
Edinson Cavani (Uruguay) +1000
Even if you are on just simple, nodding terms with European football, you know the name Cavani. The Napoli goal scoring ace has been the hot transer target for Euro giants like Chelsea and Real Madrid. Cavani led Serie A with 29 goals this past season.
The Longshot
Stephan El Shaarawy (Italy) +2500
"Il Faraone" helped lead AC Milan back to the Champions League during a successful Serie A campaign. The Manchester City transfer target netted 16 goals during the Italian season, good enough for third in the league.
The Dark Horse
Shinji Kagawa (Japan) +6600
It would take a miracle of epic proportions for Japan to get out of a tough Group A, but if they do, it will be due to the play of Manchester United's Kagawa. The Japanese don't have much goal scoring up front, so any goals will more than likely come from playmakers like Kagawa.
Arizona (Miley) at San Diego (Marquis) ( -105) 10:10 ET
10* San Diego (Marquis) (-105)
This is a bit of a perception/reality play. Everyone knows that Arizona has been overachieving this year at 37-30 including 20-16 on the road. Quietly playing under the radar has been a San Diego team who, since starting 5-15, has gone 28-19 to pull within 1 game of .500. Most recently, the Padres have won 4 straight over which time the starters have a 1.71 ERA. Expect more of the same from Marquis today who, in his last 9 starts has gone 7-0 with a 3.15 ERA. In addition, Marquis is 5-0 with a 2.50 ERA in 6 home starts. That compares favorably to his mound opponent today. Miley is a disappointing 4-5 with a 4.89 ERA. In 6 starts vs. the Padres, Miley is 1-4 with a 7.52 ERA.
