The DODGERS are infinitely better team over the last two weeks than they have been during their underwhelming beginning.
Yasiel Puig has generated "Valenzuela Mania" type of buzz throughout LA and the country in general. It is likely that he will end up in The All-Star Game later this month, and that is just the injection of youth & excitement that the aging MLB desperately needs right now.
Aside from the incredible addition of Puig, the team is getting back many of their injured All-Stars right around now. Hanley Ramirez has been exceptional since he returned from the DL, Kemp has healed-up, and Crawford's return is imminent...
The Dodgers boast perhaps the most consistently dominating Starter in the league with Clayton Kershaw. He has been brutalized so far this season as a victim of lack of run support, his numbers are ridonkulous, but with the offense becoming more dangerous by the day, that figures to turn around shortly.
Oh yes, add in the fact that Mattingly finally yanked Brandon League from the closer's position in favor of THE EXCEPTIONAL KENLEY JANSEN, and we believe the DODGERS will WIN THE NL WEST rather easily. Hell, they're just 4 or so back from 1st Place D'Backs right now! A week ago it was like 8 or 9!!!
While we fully believe that going forward, THE DODGERS are as dangerous as a unit as exists in the game, the odds have not quit caught-up to their amazing & rapid turn-around. Again, this is not just another random win streak, this is a LOADED team that is finally getting its ALL-STAR caliber players back from injury, one by one, all the while adding CUBAN ROOKIE SENSATION (SENOR KOO-KOO-TRON), and finally starting perhaps the most dominant CLOSER in the game (El' Capitan Jansen), and beginning to understand its extremely high talent level and potential.
At anything like this price, once THE DODGERS get into The Playoffs, one should hedge to some extent, simply to lock-in profits. But if we're correct (& we are), you may not want to hedge too awful much because this is becoming a very fun team to watch and they can "wreck your neck" in a heartbeat! Not at all fully convinced with Greinke's prowess at this point, but Ryu and Fife have been surprisingly good so far this year. THE DODGERS would be very wise to trade for a strong and proven Starter, maybe using as bait one of their many talented outfielders once Crawford returns (probably Ethier)....
Anyhow, Sportsbook.com currently lists THE DODGERS at 25 to 1 TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES and we are CERTAIN that line will drop dramatically and soon.
So, again, hedge until your heart is content, but grab THE DODGERS at anything like that price and you will be very happy that you did. And by all means, hedge until your heart is content, but this team will be in The Playoffs and at that point, you have GUARANTEED yourself a very tidy profit...
Pittsburgh Pirates -160
Only one way to look here with Locke sitting at 7-1 with a 2.06 ERA that shrinks to 0.86 in his last 3 starts. The Pirates are red hot right now and the Phillies are not. Pettibone goes for Philly and he has struggled on the road this season with an ERA approaching 6.5 and the Pirates are 43-22 against right handers. All signs point to Pittsburgh here.
