3-Unit Play Take #303 Clemson (-13.5) [/B]over North Carolina State (7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19)
Note: This is a KING System Play
In generally it's not too bright to load up on ACC road favorites playing on Thursday nights, as more than one top team has been upset or nearly upset in these spots over the last decade. But I think that there is a wide gap between these two programs and it will show this week. Clemson has had two weeks to prepare for this game so lack of focus won't be an issue at all. The Tigers scored 62 points against the Wolfpack in last year's meeting, but State snuck in the back door thanks to some garbage time magic from Mike Glennon. But that game was 55-24 in the third quarter and 62-38 heading into the fourth quarter. This is a better Clemson team and probably a worse N.C. State club, still learning the new systems of new coach Dave Doeren. Clemson lost in its last trip to Raleigh. They haven't lost here in back-to-back trips since the mid-80's and I feel if they are going to win this game they are going to cover this number as well. Clemson's offense just wears opponents down and I think that's exactly what we'll see here.

3-Unit Play Take #301 Kansas City (+3.5) over Philadelphia (8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19)
Here is a little secret: any time that a coach comes back to play against his former players the year after leaving the team you always want to bet on the coach and his new team. I have found this rule holds true across all sports, and the knowledge that the coach has trumps any ?motivation? edge that the former players have. Andy Reid might now know the Eagles scheme. But he knows everything about those Eagles players and all the tendancies, likes, dislikes, etc. for those guys. Also, K.C. has Chris Ault on the payroll and I am certain that he has helped Reid prepare for the spread offense. This is Philadelphia's third game in 11 days. Normal teams are worn down from that. But the Eagles are playing at a breakneck pace and I am sure that they will falter when the fourth quarter of this game rolls around. The Eagles have had the benefit of playing against two absolutely pathetic secondaries. Kansas City is the best defense they have seen yet and I think the Chiefs will be able to force some sacks, turnovers and negative plays. Also, the Eagles defense is really struggling. And an efficient Alex Smith should be able to put some points on the board. The Chiefs are definitely the better team here. So we have the better team, the points, and the coaching advantage working for us. This would normally be a 7-Unit Game of the Year situation. But the only reason that it isn't is that I kind of want to stay away from Philly right now because what they are doing is so scattered. That said, this situation is too good to pass over so we'll take the visitors.
