GamingToday’s Consensus Picks October 01, 2013 3:01 AM by GT Staff

      Baseball

901 Cincinnati Reds / 902 Pittsburgh Pirates UNDER 6½ RUNS: There is a Government shutdown in progress but life in the world of baseball goes on and for these two teams it comes down to just one game. The Reds were swept by the Pirates in a three game series to end the season in Cincinnati last week but right now that series sweep don’t mean a thing except to the Pirate fans who will flock to the ball yard tonight for the first playoff game in a long long time for the Pirates. They send out their ace in Liriano who lost his last start in Chicago to the hapless Cubbies, maybe he is getting tired but the one thing we do know is that when he heads to the mound he just doesn’t get much run support. The Pirates will be tight as a drum tonight and will find it hard to score many runs.

      NHL Hockey

5 Winnipeg Jets / 6 Edmonton Oilers OVER 5½ GOALS: Jets gave up a conference high of 27 goals in preseason while the Oilers scored the most goals in preseason.

NHL Hockey Play of the Day October 01, 2013 3:01 AM by GT Staff

Winnipeg Jets at Edmonton Oilers -150 at 7:05 p.m. PST

The Winnipeg Jets are just not that good and they could only muster one win in the preseason games while the Oilers scored the most goals and went 5-2-1.

        6 Edmonton Oilers -150

Two for Tuesday October 01, 2013 3:00 AM by GT Staff

2 for Tuesday by Richard Saber

            1) Reds at Pirates (National League playoffs)

Pittsburgh just swept Cincinnati, but this is just a one-game shootout. The baseball gods will not smile on the Pirates as their Cinderella season ends in depression. CINCINNATI.

            2) Rays/Rangers at Indians (AL playoffs)

A Wednesday Special: The Monday night winner earned a plane ride to Cleveland. The Indians are playing their best ball and any team other than Detroit is beatable to them. CLEVELAND.

Richard Saber: Last week 1-1 ATS; 2013 record: 41-33.

2 for Tuesday by Mark Mayer

            1) Cincinnati at Pittsburgh (NL Wild Card)

The Pirates enter a confident bunch against the Reds given their recent success. Cueto and Liriano can run hot and cold so with the total at just 6½ we see a higher scoring game. OVER 6½.

            2) TB/Texas at Cleveland (AL Wild Card)

A tough ask for either Tampa Bay or Texas with all the wacky travel facing the piping hot Tribe off 10 straight wins. But Rays are a tough out. If Rangers, CLEVELAND. If Rays, TAMPA BAY.

Mark Mayer: Last week 0-2 ATS; 2013 record: 46-30.

                          Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 8:07 ET
Reds over Pirates- The Pittsburgh Pirates return to the post season for the first time in 21 years and have just secured home field advantage for this game with a three-game sweep in Cincinnati. The winner here will face the Cardinals in round 2. The Reds were to start Mat Lotos but elbow problems have them turning to Johnny Cueto (5-2, 2.82 ERA) who himself has had only two starts off his injury. The Pirates will start Francisco Liriano (16-8, 3.02) who has a 8-1 record at home with a 1.47 ERA. Impressive numbers but they are balanced by Cueto lifetime 13-4 with a 2.37 ERA in 21 career starts against Pittsburgh. Take CINCINNATI!
