2-Unit Play. Take #3 Washington (+150) over Chicago (8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1)
The lockout shorten season couldn't have been different for these two teams with the Blackhawks not suffering their first loss until halfway through the season while the Capitols lost nine of their first eleven games. While the Blackhawks went on to win the Stanley Cup the Capitols did overcome that start to make the playoffs before losing in the first round of the playoffs in seven games. Both of these teams have a huge amount of returning players and while Chicago played into June and no doubt celebrated their championship all summer long the Capitols had the chance to get their first offseason to get accustomed to new head coach Adam Oates who only had a week prior to the short season last year to start to put in his systems. The Capitols are better then this number suggest and while the public eyes will be on the defending champs the Capitols have all the value here, this number shouldn't be a penny higher then Chicago as a -1.45 home favorite.
2013-14 NHL FUTURES PREDICTIONS
7-Unit Play. Take Tampa Bay 'Over' 85.5 Season Points
Tampa Bay comes into the 2013 season after their first full training camp under head coach Jon Cooper who take over mid season last year. The players love Cooper which is one good sign knowing they will give a effort night in and night out. This Tampa team is extremely talented led by superstar Steven Stamkos, this team also has a deep and talented blue line with Aullie and Salo being two important pieces. The question that will be answered sooner then later is the goaltending but I think they have a nice combination with two young and both big goalies in Bishop and Lindback. I think this is a playoff hockey club and they should put up a season point total in the low 90's. Take Tampa Bay over the points here.
2-Unit Play. Take Anaheim 'Under' 94.5 Season Points
The Ducks are looking to build of last season after being stunned in the playoffs in a game seven at home loss to the young Red Wings. I however don't think that this team is as good as advertise after trading away Bobby Ryan. The Ducks are big but with that comes a lack of speed, they're also relying on a aging Dustin Penner to replace Bobby Ryan numbers which shouldn't even come close to happening. This number just looks way high considering how good of a division Anaheim is in, look for the Ducks to fall short here and too boot won't even make the playoffs.
