NCAA Thursday night football visits the Carolinas, as the North Carolina Tar Heels host the Miami Hurricanes in an ACC showdown.
The season has been a disappointment thus far for North Carolina as they are 1-4 SU and ATS. The Tar Heels are 1-1 at home and the point total has cashed on the OVER once and the UNDER three times in the five North Carolina games.
Miami however could not have had a better season thus far, as they are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS. On the road, the Hurricanes are 1-0 and the total points have cashed on the OVER three times and the UNDER twice.
Miami is ranked No. 11 in the nation and will have to face the Tar Heels starting quarterback Bryn Renner, who returns after sitting out last week with an injured foot.
The Tar Heels lost last week to No. 20 ranked Virginia Tech 27-17. North Carolina will be facing one of the nation’s top pass defenses. The Tar Heels have not defeated a ranked team since 2010, when they beat Florida State, which at the time was ranked No. 24.
Miami faces its first test on the road, regardless of the struggles the Tar Heels have had this season.
North Carolina is 4-2 SU over the past six games played head to head with Miami, including last season’s 18-14 win in Miami.
The Hurricanes have only given up two touchdowns through the air this season, the fewest of any team in the nation. The Miami defense also has 18 sacks this season.
On offense, Miami has been impressive of late scoring 40 points or more in three consecutive games. Stephen Morris at quarterback has been solid with 9 touchdown passes and four interceptions.
North Carolina has lost three consecutive games since defeating Middle Tennessee State 40-20. Offensively, the Heels have gained more than 400 yards in 14 of the 17 games Larry Fedora has been head coach, but in only two of the five games played this season.
The Hurricanes are favored by 8.5 points in this matchup with the point total on 64.5. We like Miami and the OVER.
