St Louis +7 over CAROLINA - We expect a hard-fought game here. The Rams are unvalued right now. They are 3-3 on the season, losing only to Atlanta, Dallas and San Francisco. Last week, they opened a can of whup-ass on the Texans, beating them 38-13, which scoring two defensive TDs. I see a lot of chatter about how the Rams got lucky in this one and how they were outgained by two-hundred yards and how Houston had 27 first downs to the Rams 15. The fact is that the Rams' first three TD scores were on drives of 65, 80 and 80 yards. It was these drives that built the big lead. Houston yards and St Louis' two defensive scores cam in garbage time. This is a well-coached quality team that is getting more and more confident and dangerous. St Louis is 9-0 ATS when they are off a win as a dog in which they benefitted from a takeaway margin of at least +2. The SDQL text is:
team=Rams and p:WD and p:TOM<=-2 and date>=20061001
In addition, the Rams are 11-0 ATS when they are off a game in which they scored 34-plus points. The SDQL text is simply:
team=Rams and points>=34 and date>=20021101
The last time this one was active was. last week against the Texans. Whenever a mediocre team is turnover-free it can be confidence building, but only if they are well-coached. The Rams are a perfect 7-0 ATS when they are on the road off a win in which they did not turn the ball over, winning each of the last three straight up - including their win vs the Texans last week. The SDQL text is:
team=Rams and A and p:W and p:TO=0 and season>=2007
The Panthers were our top side play last Sunday and they came through for us in a big way, hammering the Vikings 35-10. Minnesota was in a terrible spot and the Panthers were in a great one. Here the tables are turned. Carolina is 0-8 ATS when facing a team that is off two double-digit wins, failing to cover by an average of 14.3 ppg. The SDQL text is:
team=Panthers and 10<=op:margin and 10<=opp:margin and season>=2003
The Rams will not be passive and they will be playing to win. The Panthers have only beaten two teams this season - the Giants and Vikings and neither of these two teams has a win in this country this season (Minnesota beat Pittsburgh in London). We expect a low-scoring game in which the Rams will be the aggressor on both offense and defense. Seven points is huge in a game like this. Grab'em.
