STATFOX FORECASTER
CAROLINA (103) AT TAMPA BAY (104)
Latest Line: Tampa Bay +6.0; Total: 40.0
The Buccaneers try to win their first game of the season without top RB Doug Martin (labrum) when they host the red-hot Panthers on Thursday night. Carolina has played turnover-free football in its past two games, winning both contests by a combined 65 to 25 score. Tampa Bay’s offense has improved slightly with QB Mike Glennon (17.0 PPG, 219 pass YPG) than with former starter Josh Freeman (11.3 PPG, 175 pass YPG), but the defense has allowed 31 points in back-to-back losses. The Bucs are 1-11 SU (2-9-1 ATS) in their past 12 games, but actually swept the Panthers last year by outrushing them 297 to 107 yards.

1* Units, Mississippi St/Kentucky UNDER 56
The reason I like this under is because I think we have two defense that are relatively underrated, and two offense that are either non-existent or overrated.
State is averaging 30 ppg and Kentucky is averaging 20. Kentucky is allowing 30 and State is allowing 23. Both of these teams have played some competition to dilute their numbers. Kentucky is coming off of a stretch where they played Louisville, Florida, @ SC and then against Bama. That’s pretty tough. They now travel to face a MississippiState team.
Against BCS teams, St has scored 3, 20, 26 and 21. That’s…..bad. They have diluted their scoring averages with games against AlcornState and Troy.
Another reasonI like the under here is both offense REALLY struggle with 3rd downs. Kentucky is converting at 25% and St is converting at 36%, ranking them 121stand 86th respectively. Neither team turns it over that much, with each having 6 on the year, hoping to avoid the turnover scores that are under killers.
Finally, St is the better offense and they excel running the ball. I think Kentucky will be able to slow the run here. On offense, if Kentucky does anything well, it is run. Kentucky is playing Max Smith it looks like, so I don’t expect this Kentucky team to do much scoring at all. St could get to the 30s, and I still think this stays under.

Game: Marshall at Middle Tennessee State (Thursday 10/24 7:30 PM Eastern)
Pick: Middle Tennessee State +10 (-110) at Bovada
The Marshall Thundering Herd comes into this Thursday Night contest with a 4-2 record, but more importantly, 2-0 in Conference USA play, leading C-USA East. The 4-2 record may look impressive, but the Herd has gotten their four wins vs. teams that have a combined record of 4-17. And, one other team, Gardner Webb, is not even in the FBS. Marshall is just 10-23 ATS in their last 33 road games when posted as a favorite. Middle Tennessee has played well at home. Their biggest test was a seven point loss to East Carolina. ECU is a better than Marshall and this line is similar, so there's value in this line. The Herd is just 2-9-2 ATS in their last 11 on the road vs. a losing team. The Blue Raiders enter off a bye, where they have gone 4-0 ATS in their last four. With the extra time to rest and prepare, play on Middle Tennessee.
