Two for Tuesday November 26, 2013 3:00 AM by GT Staff
2 for Tuesday by Richard Saber
1) W. Michigan +35 at N. Illinois (NCAA fb)
Hate laying this much wood, but the undefeated Huskies can name the score and most likely will. UNI has plenty of incentive, needing a blowout win to stay in the hunt for BCS bowl. UNI.
2) W. Michigan at Northern Illinois (63½)
This was an opening total so we’ll deal with that. Be aware this number likely to change. Northern Illinois has the long home win streak to protect and should score plenty to protect it. OVER.
Richard Saber: Last week 1-1 ATS; 2013 record: 47-43.
2 for Tuesday by Mark Mayer
1) Brooklyn (NL) at Toronto (NBA)
Nets figured to be much improved adding Pierce and Garnett to a solid cast. Now they just look old, losers of 5 straight. Raptors playing well of late, winners of 2 straight and 6-2 ATS in last eight. TORONTO.
2) LA Lakers at Washington (NBA)
The Wizards in a good spot, having gone 3-1 both SU and ATS in last 4 plus having two full off days to prepare for Lakers. First of back to back for LA and still no Kobe. WASHINGTON.
Mark Mayer: Last week 2-0 ATS; 2013 record: 57-35.
My 100 Dime winner in the Pro Hoops ranks for Tuesday night is on the WASHINGTON WIZARDS in their NBA showdown against the Los Angeles Lakers. And as I release this game at 10:30 a.m. eastern, I see the line across the board - Offshore and in Las Vegas is sitting at Washington -4.
California vs. Syracuse: What bettors need to know
California Golden Bears vs. Syracuse Orange (-4.5, OFF)
California will get another chance to solve the zone defense of No. 7 Syracuse when the teams meet Tuesday in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational. The Orange ended California’s season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last March, holding the Golden Bears to 39.3 percent shooting in the 66-60 victory, including 4-of-21 from 3-point range. The leading scorers for both teams in that game - Syracuse's C.J. Fair and California's Richard Solomon - have returned for their senior seasons.
Fair displayed his toughness in the first-round win against Minnesota, suffering a gash to his cheek when he was hit while going up for a dunk with about 4½ minutes remaining in the first half. He sprung back to finish with team highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds and there’s a good chance the 6-8 Fair will be matched against the 6-10 Solomon. California point guard Justin Cobbs was among those who struggled against the Syracuse defense last March, missing all five of his 3-point attempts, while top reserve Ricky Kreklow was 0-for-2.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN.
LINE: The line opened at -3.5 and has been bet up to -4.5. The total for the game is currently off the board.
ABOUT CALIFORNIA (5-0, 3-1 ATS): Jabari Bird has filled in nicely this season for Allen Crabbe, who was taken 31st overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Draft last June. The 6-6 freshman guard is leading the Golden Bears in scoring at 13.5 while shooting a nifty 12-for-22 from 3-point range. Bird has yet to score double figures in back-to-back games, however, something he’ll probably need to accomplish against the Orange if California is to advance to the championship game.
ABOUT SYRACUSE (5-0, 1-2 ATS): Trevor Cooney has made huge strides over his freshman season, starting with his 27-point performance against Cornell in
the season opener and continuing with his 15-point day in the tournament opener. There’s no secret where the 6-4 guard likes to shoot from as all 11 of his shot attempts against Minnesota came from beyond the arc, resulting in fives makes. Cooney thrives on catch-and-shoot situations, so anytime the Golden Bears can force him to dribble, they’ll be in better shape.
TRENDS:
* California is 5-1 ATS in its last six games overall.
* Syracuse is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games following a ATS win.
* Over is 4-1 in California's last five neutral site games.
* Under is 3-0-1 in Syracuse's last four neutral site games.
TIP INS:
1. California F David Kravish scored a career-high 19 points against Arkansas with 15 rebounds.
2. Syracuse's Jerami Grant is the son of former NBA player Harvey Grant.
3. Solomon is 6-for-15 from the free throw line this season after shooting 65 percent last season.
NCAA Basketball Play of the Day November 26, 2013 3:01 AM by GT Staff
Saint Louis at Wisconsin -1½ at 5:30 p.m. PST
We will lay the small price with the Badgers against a very good Saint Louis squad as the Badgers have gone 9-2 in this young season but like their counterpart the football Badgers they also are hard to beat at home as they have gone 6-0 SU and ATS on their home court.
528 Wisconsin -1½
that's all well and good (wis. 6-0 su/ats @home) but game is in Cancun!
