7-Unit Play. #547 Take Central Michigan (+2) over Jacksonville State (8:45 p.m., Tuesday,
December 17)
Wrong team favored. Central Michigan already has one win over Jacksonville State and I see two
in as many attempts when they get together in Alabama. We've had our eye on this match-up for
roughly two weeks since these two played in their first meeting of the season. The Chippewas
hosted this same JSU team the last weekend of November. We had a play in that game, so we
remember it well. Central won the game but were unlucky not to cover a line of 5.5. Central
Michigan were up 14 points with just five minutes left to go and took their foot off the gas and
didn't close strong. But make no mistake about it they are the better team. Jacksonville State
just got hammered by 30 against Dartmouth this past Saturday. That's not exactly the type of
result that earns a favorite tag, albeit a small one. I think there is a ton of value not having to lay
a single point here on the superior team. Central Michigan lost this past weekend at Dayton in a
game they played really crummy in, and because of that I think oddsmakers are perhaps
overreacting specifically to that game's margin of victory. However there is no comparison
between the likes of Dayton and Jacksonville State. And part of me actually likes that Central
Michigan got some poor play out of the way. In that loss against the Flyers they shot 3-22 from
three-point range, just over 60 percent from the foul stripe and under 40 percent from the field.
All three of those shooting percentages will be higher in this game tonight, thus resulting in a much different outcome than this past Saturday.
It's barely been six weeks into the college basketball season and looking at Jacksonville State's
results makes me think this line is off by even more. Already they have five losses by double
digits, and of the team's 4-8 record, only two of those victories are against Division I opponents:
Alabama A&M and Alcorn State. Hardly quality wins.
The Chippewas have covered four of their last five games coming off a SU loss, while going 4-0
ATS in each of their last four games after a 20+ point loss. Simply put, Central Michigan is going
to respond off their worst loss of the season, and covering here means a victory in the standings.
That's what they will be wanting following that bad setback to Dayton. Each of Jacksonville
State's losses has resulted in a losing streak. It's happened twice already this season, and as
they come in off a loss, this would be their second consecutive. They are 0-5 ATS in their last
five games following a SU loss.
Central Michigan has an RPI over 100 points higher than Jacksonville State. And while I
acknowledge this Chippewas team isn't banging down the door as world beaters, they aren't a bad
team. I like them. I like them even more specifically in this match-up, as they come off a bad loss
and already have this team's number. As I mentioned earlier, they won the first meeting by five.
You should feel comfortable with a wider margin of victory, around ten points this time around
NBA Basketball Play of the Day December 17, 2013 3:01 AM by GT Staff
Sacramento Kings at Charlotte Bobcats -2 at 4:05 p.m. PST
We have several factors that favor the home and rested Bobcats, the Kings have traveled cross country and have gone 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight games when facing a team with a losing record and the Cats have gone 8-2 ATS after a loss and they lost this past Saturday. Parry’s Power Guide has the Bobcats as a -7 point favorite so we will lay the two points.
GamingToday's Consensus Picks December 17, 2013 3:01 AM by GT Staff
NBA Basketball
502 Cleveland Cavaliers +4½: We will rely on Parry’s Power Guide for two NBA plays today, the first will be the Cavaliers as the Power Guide has the traveling Trailblazers as a -1 point chalk, we will take the +4½.
508 Denver Nuggets +2: In this matchup between the Thunder and the Nuggets the Power Guide has Denver as a -2½ point favorite, we will take the +2.
NHL Hockey
55 Florida Panthers +115: We will take the live road dog as the Panthers are riding a three game win streak.
64 Detroit Red Wings EVEN: This comes from our high percentage five system play as the Red Wings are home with a five game losing streak, they get the win tonight against the Ducks.
72 Dallas Stars -115: Dallas was creamed by the Avalanche last night and now will return the favor.
NCAA Basketball
527 Wichita State -2: Parry’s Power Guide has the Shockers -10, we will lay the one bucket.
539 Manhattan +4: In this game the Power Guide has Manhattan as a -6 point favorite
Two for Tuesday December 17, 2013 3:00 AM by GT Staff
2 for Tuesday by Richard Saber
1) Anaheim at Detroit Red Wings (NHL)
The Wings are one of our high percentage plays. They are home at Joe Louis Arena with a 5-game losing streak and the price will be right facing the high-flying Ducks. DETROIT.
2) Chicago Blackhawks at Nashville (NHL)
Last Tuesday Predators posted a win for us, but now it’s time to go against them. Nashville has won three straight, but Kane and Toews are coming alive for the defending Cup champs. CHICAGO.
Richard Saber: Last week 2-0 ATS; 2013 record: 49-47.
2 for Tuesday by Mark Mayer
1) Pittsburgh (NL) at Cincinnati (college bkb)
After that egg the Bengals laid in Pittsburgh, the Queen City has revenge in mind. What better chance than with UC off a humbling 17-point loss to City rival Xavier. Plus Pitt is 10-0 and strutting. CINCY.
2) Ark-Pine Bluff (NL) at Creighton (college bkb)
Creighton at 7-2 is one of the top mid majors in the country again. Arkansas Pine Bluff has lost seven in a row. Sounds like the visitors could be leaving Omaha in a Pine Box. CREIGHTON.
Mark Mayer: Last week 1-1 ATS; 2013 record: 59-38-1
3 Unit Play. Take #527 Wichita St -2 over Alabama (9:00p.m., Tuesday, Dec 17 ESPNU)
Here is a matchup between one team that is rolling and the other can't catch a break. The
Shockers are a perfect 10-0 this season and beaten teams like Tennessee, St. Louis, and BYU.
Alabama has beaten teams like Charleston Southern, North Florida, and Georgia St. The Shockers
are a more talented team and yes I know the Tide are at home tonight I see the Shockers getting
the 'W' and great 2nd half play. Wichita St is 7-0 ATS in their last 7 road games and the Crimson
Tide are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
2 Unit Play. Take #527 Loyola Marymount -2 over Cal Poly Slo (10:00p.m., Tuesday, Dec 17)
