Gonzalez was forced to leave Tuesday's game with left index finger injury and is not expected to return for Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
Hamilton returns to Angels but Trout leaves with ailing back
Angels left fielder Josh Hamilton was in the midst of a scorching hot
start to the 2014 season before an unfortunate decision to slide head first into first
base against the Seattle Mariners on April 8 resulted in his tearing a ligament in his
left thumb, an injury that cost him 48 games.
Hamilton was batting .444/.545/.741 with two home runs and six RBIs over eight games
before landing on the 15-day disabled list on April 9 and subsequently undergoing thumb
surgery. On Tuesday night, he returned to action in the Angels' 7-2 loss and picked up
right where he left off, finishing 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run. In his first at-bat, Hamilton hit a blast to straightaway center field that would have cleared the fence in most parks but was flagged down by Dexter Fowler.
"It felt good, I felt calm, I was seeing the ball, and overall, the at-bats felt good," Hamilton said.
With Hamilton back in the fold, the Angels were hopeful of finally putting their primary lineup on the field and getting the chance to watch that group work in concert. However, after one trip through the batting order, that dream was deferred when center fielder Mike Trout departed with mid-back discomfort after striking out in his first at-bat. Trout had missed the previous two games with lower-back stiffness and leaves the Angels wondering when he will be healthy enough to return unencumbered.
"We'll definitely take a half-step back here and try to figure out what's going on," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
The line for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final is on the move when the Los Angeles Kings host the New York Rangers Wednesday at the Staples Center.
The Kings opened as -150 favorites to take Game 1 of the series and have since moved to -153 and then to -156 as of early Wednesday morning.
Los Angeles is favored to win the series at -180, while New York is listed at +157 according to Sportsbook.ag.
Rangers know 'hands are full' vs. powerful Kings
Despite a relatively even workload to this point in the playoff season, the Los Angeles Kings faced a much rockier road than the New York Rangers to reach the Stanley Cup finals.
By getting through the Western Conference gauntlet, the Kings are the favorite heading into the title series that begins Wednesday in Los Angeles.
"I think that perception is out there," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. "The experts probably favor the L.A. Kings quite a bit. That's not going to change our approach, what we think we need to do."
The Kings played the maximum number of games to get to the finals, beating the San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks in decisive Game 7s on the road.
While the Rangers don't have quite as much tread on their tires, they aren't far behind, beating the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins in seven games in the first two rounds before topping the Montreal Canadiens in six games in the Eastern Conference finals.
NOTES: Rangers LW Daniel Carcillo is eligible to play in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals after his 10-game suspension for striking an official was reduced to six games upon appeal. The NHL Players' Association asked the league to review his suspension, which he received for abusing linesman Scott Driscoll, a violation of Rule 40.3, during the first period in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals. The case was heard by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. ... The Kings are the first team in NHL history to win three Game 7s on the road in one playoff year to advance to the Stanley Cup finals. ... Kings G Jonathan Quick was banged up in practice Tuesday when he was struck in the collarbone with a shot. According to coach Darryl Sutter, Quick will be in the net Wednesday for Game 1. Sutter indicated that he is not concerned about Quick's status, adding, "Jonathan is a tough guy. He's probably the first guy out of the room."
(Norris/Martinez)
Texas which is always known for having heavy hitters has seen this lineup going silent. I think the Orioles are a better baseball team right now and Norris is a better pitcher than Martinez who doesn’t have a great strikeout/walk ratio. Martinez is not as good as his numbers who indicate as he has been bailed out of some really tough jams with runners in scoring position. Take the Orioles.
The twins got the better of them last night, as the brewers had an off night to say the least. Struggling 2-12 with runners in scoring position and had the lead most of the game. However they still reign with the top 6 pitching staff in MLB and with the Twins at the bottom of that in 29th of 30th in pitching the brewers won’t get caught a 2nd time. Not to mention Brewers own the best road record in the N.L. Central at 16-11. Not to mention to get Juice on our side with this, we take all day long
Brewers + 103
NHL PICK
The Lord Stanley begins tonight and two teams that have traveled different paths over the last 20 years. Kings are at home and playing some of the best hockey of the season not to mention over the last 3 seasons has been one of the finest organizations’ in the NHL. As the Rangers roll in looking to hold up that cup in over 20 years and people in New York are Ready. This series in my opinion has Lundqvist written all over it. This is His time to make it happen and prove why he is the best in net. It’s not going to be easy as LA is the highest scoring team in the playoffs averaging over 3.5 goals a game and over 30 shots a game. They are big strong and fast and can strike quickly.
However the Rangers are no beginners and have cleaned up Philly Pittsburgh and the Canadians whom was this year’s surprise team for sure. Lundqvist has shut everyone down and the rangers have the best defense scoring unit and power play unit on the ice. The rangers cannot afford to let this 1st game get out of control and Lundqvist has to be ready to roll which leads us to Quick on the other side of the net for the Kings. His numbers are as equal as Lundqvist which leads us to the 1st true Goalie Stanley cup in a number of years. 926% vs 906 % Save %.
Tonight we take the under 5. This 1st game is all about the Man behind the Mask. Not to mention the Kings vs Eastern conference is 35-11-8 in unders.
