Soccer English Premier League - Manchester United vs Swansea City

    Pick: 3 units (Single Dime Play) on Over 2.5 @ -131 / 1.76 on Pinnacle Sports (OR -135 / 1.74 on 5 Dimes)

    PREMIUM PLAY***

***Game Starts @ 7:45 AM EST / 1:45 PM CET***

Manchester United is coming from a surprisingly good preseason (note that all their games were against top European Clubs) as it looks like their players quickly absorbed Louis Van Gaal’s ideas in the blink of an eye. I’ve watched some of those games, and I really loved their passing and pro-active approach to the game. Ander Herrera and Juan Mata combined pretty well in the center midfield and we are dealing with a team that will look completely different than the United’s version of the last season.

However, I have some doubts regarding their defensive scheme. Van Gaal will use a 3-5-2 formation, and while their 3 center backs will need some time to mix together in terms of positioning, my main concern is around their 2 wing-backs. Ashley Young has been tested at Right Wing-back but he is a forward, so his defensive positioning isn’t the best. Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are injured, so I see the Red Devil’s suffering a bit against Swansea’s powerful attacking unit w/ W. Bony and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Welsh side made a decent pre-season and they look more dangerous on the front than exactly having a stronger defense. I expect them to struggle defensively early on the season as they lost some key defensive players in this offseason like Vorm, Ben Davis and more recently Chico Flores. I expect Man Utd to explore this potential Swansea’s weakness and therefore, this should be a fun game to watch with both offenses having key edges.
