4* AL East Game of the Week on Rays - The Rays are showing great value as a small home favorite against the Blue Jays tonight. Tampa Bay is going to be highly motivated to come back with a win after losing the series opener last night. Considering they are 18-9 at home against the Blue Jays over the last 3 seasons, you have to like their chances of doing just that. Tampa Bay will send out Chris Archer, who I look to bounce back in a big way after a poor showing in his last start against the Red Sox. Prior to that start, Archer had allowed just one earned run in each of his previous 4 outings. As for Toronto starter Marcus Stroman, now seems like a great time to fade the youngster. Stroman has an ugly 7.42 ERA and 1.799 WHIP over his last 3 starts and has really struggled on the road, where he's posted a 6.48 ERA and 1.719 WHIP in 6 starts. Toronto as a team is just 1-5 when Stroman takes the mound on the road. Toronto is just 5-16 in their last 21 road games with a total set between 7 and 8.5 runs and 2-8 in their last 10 road games vs a right-handed starter. Tampa Bay is 9-1 in their last 11 when their opponent comes in having scored 5+ runs in their last game and 4-1 in Archer's last 5 starts as a favorite of -110 to -150. These trends combine to form a 80% (37-9) system in favor of the Rays. Take Tampa Bay! |
