Fools gold in New York as the Knicks have won two games in a row and everyone is rushing for their playoff tickets! This is still a bad basketball team and tonight will play one of the up-and-coming teams in the Eastern Conference. John Wall has been a problem for the Knicks, averaging 25.8 points in the last four meetings with New York. Wall had 31 points and seven assists in a 98-89 win Nov. 23. Great trend play in this game that can't be overlooked...Play against home underdogs in the NBA off a close home win (3 points or less) in their next game in November games. This trend is a stunning 30-5 against the number since 1996. We feel like the Wizards really represent a strong value play in this one. The Sharps say...
6-Unit Play. Take #715 Phoenix (-6.5) over L.A. Lakers (10:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4)
These two teams played last week and Phoenix won by 20 points. That game was in Arizona. But just because the stadium changes I don’t think the outcome will change. The Suns scored 119 points in that first matchup and they could get that many again. Last year the Suns scored 121 points and 117 points against the Lakers so they can get whatever they want against Los Angeles. The Suns are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against the Lakers and they are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games after a loss. The Suns are 16-7 ATS in their last 23 road games and the Lakers are 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games. I think the Suns will win this one by double digits and this one is an easy lay against a public team.
3-Unit Play. Take Oklahoma City (+10.5) over Toronto (7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4)
The Raptors are off an embarrassing 116-85 loss to Brooklyn last night. That was their first game without Russell Westbrook. But I think they are going to be much better today. This team has a lot of pride. And the oddsmakers have overreacted with this spread. Toronto is coming off a loss in its last game and they only beat Atlanta by seven in the home opener. The public is going to jump on the Raptors in this one. But I can’t see OKC getting blown out badly on back-to-back nights. Take the points.
2-Unit Play. Take ‘Over’ 190.5 Washington at New York (7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4)
This Washington team has really improved its offense this year by adding Paul Pierce. They have scored 108 and 105 points in their last two games and the Wizards are 3-0 against the total this season. The Knicks are 2-1 against the total and they have not scored over 100 points yet this season. But the Knicks have played some of the best defensive teams in the NBA. They have gone up against the Bulls, Cavs and Hornets. The ‘over’ is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams in New York. And if you go back to New York the ‘over’ is 11-5 in Washington’s last 16 games overall.
7-Unit Play. Take #712 New Orleans (-3) over Charlotte (8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4)
This is one of those situtations where both teams are playing their third game in four nights, and the value lies on the home squad. Not only due to the number of games over the course over a week, but it is also a spot where we get a good Western Conference squad versus a decent Eastern Conference squad. The West is just deeper and better. The middle of the road West squad is better than the middle of the road East squad. Charlotte looks like they will be without Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in this one and that is a blow to their dynamic. MKG has been playing well for Charlotte filling up the stat sheet with his all-around play. Yes, Charlotte has Al Jefferson to bang with Anthony Davis, but that will open up opportunities for the outside shooting of Ryan Anderson. This New Orleans squad looked good in their two other home games of the season beating Orlando bad, and playing possession per possession with the Dallas Mavericks in a five-point loss. Charlotte just doesn’t have the firepower to keep pace with New Orleans in the Bayou, and the final score will show that. New Orleans wins this game by 8-12 points. I see a 101-90 type game. New Orleans has taken four of the last five S.U. between the two teams and they are 4-0 ATS in their last four games versus the Eastern Conference. The Hornets meanwhile are 0-4 ATS in their last four games versus the NBA’s Southwest Division, and they are 1-9 ATS in their last 10 trips to New Orleans. Take the small home favorite in this one.
