I have watched both of these teams play several times this season. Utah was one of the better teams in the overrated PAC 12 and Duke has been the second best team in college all season. Utah is driven by their point guard Delon Wright. Wright is a special player and he will be in the NBA next season. Wright will have a taught time scoring against Duke tonight because of Quin Cook. Coach K has changed a lot of the years and he has set his ego a side and he willing to do anything to win. Over the last decade Coach K never player zone defense or face guard a team best player for 90 feet. Quin Cook shut down UNC all america Marcus Paige twice this season and he will do the same to Utah's Wright. Cook will shadow Wright all over the court. Coach K will force someone else on the team to defeat them. Keep your eye on the freshman battle between Jahlil Okafor and Jakob Poeltl. Okafor is averaging 25 points in the NCAA tournament and I their is zero freshmen in the nation that can guard him. If Utah decide to double team Okafor then this game could turn into a 3 points shooting contest. Quin Cook made 9 3-pointers in the opening weekend of the NCAA tournaments. Cooks 3 point shooting along with their inside scorer will be good enough to beat Utah by 10. A little sidenote and extra motivation for the Duke Blue Devils, tonight game is played in Houston, the home town of Duke's Justise Winslow. I expect him to put on a show in front of his friends and family as he will have a large crowd there to support him and his team.
4-Unit Play. Take #862 Atlanta (-8.5) over Miami (7:30 p.m., Friday, March 27)
Atlanta is focused on closing down a record-breaking season. The Hawks were blown out at home recently and that won’t happen again twice in the same week. Atlanta has gone 13-6 ATS against the rest of the Eastern Conference and they won’t hold back going up against one of their most hated rivals. Miami is just 15-20 on the road this year and they are just 1-5 ATS in their last six road games overall. This will be their fourth road game in six days and Atlanta is just too tough of a place for opponents to win. The Hawks won the last meeting in this series last month even though they rested three starters. Everyone should play and play well tonight. Atlanta will win this one by double-digits. Lay the points.
3-Unit Play. Take #852 Orlando (+1.5) over Detroit (7 p.m., Friday, March 27)
Orlando let a game get away from them their last time out. They dominated Atlanta but were outscored down the stretch and didn’t hold on in that one. But they are still playing hard at home. Detroit has been slowed by a injuries to a lot of key players and they are tanking right now. They won’t be motivated in this game. The wrong team is favored in this one. Take Orlando.
4 Unit Play Take #873 Utah +1.5 over Denver (9:05pm est):
The Utah Jazz are still one of the most improved teams in the NBA in the 2nd half of the season. Don’t let their last few games fool you as they lost to a desperate Portland last game and the game before that one fell to Minnesota in overtime due to the fact the Timberwolves hit on a very high percentage of three pointers. Wrong place at the wrong time and bad luck are the main reasons the Jazz aren’t still rolling as they had won seven of their previous eight games before that.
The Denver Nuggets come in having dropped their last five games against the spread to the Jazz. The Nuggets seem to be getting too much respect for their big home wins a few weeks back where they shocked the NBA by beating both Golden State and Atlanta. Outside of that though this is still a bad basketball team who is just 9-20 against the spread when facing teams under .500 on the season including a very ugly 2-11 when at home.
Take Utah here.
3 Unit Play Take #851 Detroit -2 over Orlando (7:05pm est):
The always streaky Detroit Pistons are now hot again as they have rattled off three straight wins and four of their last five and done so as underdogs in each one of those straight-up wins. The victories came against some very good teams as they beat Toronto, Chicago, Memphis and on the road at Boston and on the 2nd game of a back to back spot.
Orlando has really struggled of late with just one win in their last nine games overall. That lone win was against a cold Portland team and in a game where the Magic played an exceptional 4th quarter to steal the win. The Magic have been a much better bet when on the road this season then when at home.
