We roll with Seattle here against Detroit in a contest that features Walker taking the mound. Note that Walker comes off two performances where has been lackluster giving up 11 earned runs in 11 innings and he comes off one of the poorest outings of the year where he gave up 6 earned runs in 5 innings to the Angels as the M's lost 3-10 in that contest. Look for Walker to have a quality bounce-back here as he did not pitch well against the Tigers the last time out either but was able to pick up a no-decision as his team ended up winning 7-6. Note that each time he puts together a non-quality start he has come back through with a quality effort with the most recent being 4, 0, 3, 1 in earned runs after a non-quality start when it comes to earned runs. Look for Seattle to step up here as they come off a loss as well, with Walker on the bounce-back in what should be a good opportunity for this team to pick up a win this evening.

The Miami Marlins are a total mess right now. They're without two of their best players in Dee Gordon and Giancarlo Stanton due to injuries. They've struggled in a big way against right-handed pitching this season as they only have 4 possible guys capable of hitting left-handed and giving them the big platoon advantage. This factor loomed large last night against the Diamondbacks starter Rubby De La Rosa and should so again here this evening as tonight's starter for Arizona is Jeremy Hellickson and he also is the type of pitcher who can take advantage of the Marlins weakness. Hellickson is much better versus right-handed hitters than he's been against lefties in his career.

The Diamondbacks are finally healthy and have a solid up and coming team with a ton of young players. This is a team who plays much better defense than most realize and have been one of the top defensive squads in baseball when their healthy, ranking 2nd with 30 defensive runs saved this season. They've done very well against the rest of the National League outside of the big four teams, going a very strong 39-31 against them including a perfect 5-0 against these Marlins this season. They face Marlins starter Mat Latos here as the right-hander was scratched from his last start due to a foot problem and has now went 16 days since his last start which is never a good thing for any starting pitcher. Miami has dropped 6 of the last 8 starts by Latos and overall have an ugly 14-32 road record in MLB this season.

WNBA PLAYS 5 Unit Play. Take #657 Phoenix -4 over LA Sparks (11:05 p.m., Tuesday, July 21 ESPN2) Last night the oddsmakers posted the Phoenix Mercury -4.5 road favorite and I thought for sure this game would be -5 or a bit higher. No matter what I knew I was playing Phoenix but really this morning I'm getting the better overall team (Phoenix) -4. The Sparks are 2-12 this season and their 2 wins were at home but those teams were not against Phoenix and the Mercury are probably going to be pissed off tonight in LA. Phoenix are coming off a bad home loss to New York Saturday night and before that loss the Mercury were winners of 6-Straight. LA have dropped 5-straight and if they can't slow down Phoenix tonight at home we should see another Phoenix road victory in LA. Phoenix is 8-2 ATS following a ATS loss and the Mercury are 6-1 ATS when playing in LA. The LA Sparks are 1-8-1 ATS against Western Conference opponents and I see all of these trends cashing tonight.
