Both Duke and Wake Forest won their season openers last week, although they were done in very different fashions. Wake won an absolutely ugly game 7-3 over Tulane, while Duke rolled over FCS-foe NC Central. Lots of questions for Duke, who are trying to replace QB Thomas Sirk and believe they have found a QB with Daniel Jones, who was impressive last week. Wake’s offense was more of the same last week, producing just 175 total yards last week, highlighted by just three first downs in the second half, against a very average Tulane team. Now they get a shot with David Cutcliffe’s Blue Devils, who has been tremendous as an early season home favorite. Duke has won the last four games in this series and Wake is 0-4-1 in their last five against the number. Wake can’t decide if Wolford or Hinton will play QB and we expect both will see time, but that won’t matter. Duke is not the same team as they have had the past several years, but they are MUCH better than this Wake squad and will take care of business on Saturday. The Sharps say…
WIN EARLY ON YOUR COLLEGE FOOTBALL SATURDAY!!!
309 4* Rice Owls +8.5 (noon edt) CBS Sports Network
Army favored by more than a TD - really??? They are 4-18 ATS as favorites of more tha a TD and they are 4-14 ATS I games off a SU win. Rice lost last week and they have covered 6 years in a row in the game following their first SU loss of the season. This line is an over-reaction to Rice losing big last week and Army winning. No way the Cadets should be this big of a favorite here. Take Rice and the points. Thank you and good luck.
3-Unit Play. #305. Take Boston College -17 over UMass (Saturday @ 12pm est) (Currently -16.5 at Sportsbook)
Boston College has 6 returning starters on offense and defense and this team fell a field goal shy of beating Georgia Tech. This is actually a very decent team that nearly pulled of a solid big win in their first game. UMass grossly over performed in their first game as Florida simply was looking ahead to their first SEC game with Kentucky and did not care as much about the contest. This is a classic let down spot for UMass as the public is high on them but Boston College will not overlook them for their first win. Boston College by three touchdowns.
3-Unit Play. #320. Take Pittsburgh -5 over Penn State (Saturday @ 12pm est)
Penn State is running a very high octane offense this year and that's fine. There will be a lot of shotgun formation for Penn State and that seems exciting but we like Pittsburgh here. Pitt is a good public fade and a team that is primed for a very strong season. This team returns 8 on offense and 8 on defense and is very strong up front on both sides of the ball and that will make the difference against a Penn State team that lost a lot of key defensive lineman to the NFL last year (3 to be exact). Pitt has its way more or less running the ball and gets it done here. Pitt by about 8-10 points.
7-Unit Play. #308. Take Texas Christian University -7.5 over Arkansas (Saturday @ 7pm est)
TCU has a consistent way of getting up for big ballgames. And, this game is no different. You can also very clearly tell by the post game interview from Coach Patterson that he was disappointed with the defensive performance. His squad gave up more than 460 yards and that simply will not sit well for a ballclub that is ranked 12th in the country and trying to get into the Top 10 at the minimum with a big effort here. And, what better way to clean it up and to show that you are for real than to beat up on a SEC team that always gets better at the tail end of the season and improves your power rankings as a whole. This is an important game for this team to win to put it on their mantle and on their wall. This is an important prize of a win and to win it in blowout fashion. TCU won 59-41 against San Diego State and this is a great spot to get some confidence back with a big win against Arkansas. There is a reason why the total is dipping as TCU will be very sharp on defense this week. The Razorbacks are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and TCU is 12-4 ATS when they face a team with a winning record. TCU wins going away on Saturday Night.

> Play - Rice (Game 309).
Edges - Owls: 5-1 SU and 6-0 ATS off first loss of the season last six years; and 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in this series. Army: 4-18 ATS as favorites of more than 7 points, including 0-6 ATS versus foe that won 5 or more games last season. The clincher comes from the fact that Army is 0-18 SU and 4-14 ATS in games off a SU win since 2010. With college football non conference favorites just 4-12 ATS in Game Two of the season off a SU Game One win as a double-digit dog, we recommend a strong 3* play on Rice. Thank you and good luck as always.

> Play - Western Kentucky (Game 357).
Edges - Hilltoppers: 8-1-1 ATS as dogs of more than 21 points, including 7-0 ATS when not off a loss of more than 21 points; and 3-0 ATS as dogs of 17 or more points versus SEC. Crimson Tide: Alabama: 0-8 ATS as con-conference favorite of 24 or more points; and defending national champions off a SUATS win are 6-21 ATS as favorites of 6 or more points when facing a non-conference foe that won 6 or more games last year. With Alabama off its huge win over USC and having a revenge affair from its only loss of the season last year against Ole Miss on deck, and the Hilltoppers 21-7 SU under head coach Jeff Brohm - only only ONE LOSS by more than 28 points - we recommend a 3* play on Western Kentucky. Thank you and good luck as always.

> Play - Indiana (Game 324).
Edges - Hoosiers: 24-5 SU versus MAC opponents; and 15-1 ATS in SU wins under head coach Kevin Wilson. Cardinals: 3-23 SU versus Big Ten opponents; and 2-6 ATS as double digit dog off SU dow win in which they beat the spread by 15 or more points. We cement the play with this from our Perfect System Club, as it tells us to: PLAY AGAINST any double-digit college football dog with a new coach in Game Two of the season if they they won 5 or fewer games last year and they are facing an opponent off a SUATS win in which the foe beat the spread by 17 or less points in its last game. That’s because the double-digit dogs are 0-22 ATS in this role since 1993. We recommend a 3* play on Indiana. Thank you and good luck as always.

Edges - Razorbacks: 5-1 ATS as non-conference road dogs of 14 or less points; and 4-1 ATS last five games versus Big 12 opposition. Horned Frogs: 2-7-1 ATS last ten games versus SEC foes; and 2-6 ATS as non-conference home chalk of less than 10 points. With head Hog Brett Bielema 15-7-1 ATS as a dog off a win in his career, we recommend a 1* play on Arkansas. Thank you and good luck as always.

> Play - BYU (Game 383).
Edges - Cougars: 8-0 ATS as road dogs versus greater than .750 opponents; and 4-0 ATS in Game Two of the season; and 4-1 ATS as a dog with revenge. Utes: 1-8 ATS after allowing 10 or less points in their previous game; and 1-5 ATS home versus foe with revenge. With the Cougars looking to avenge a 35-28 loss suffered to Utah in last year’s Las Vegas Bowl in a game in which they trailed 35-0 in the first quarter, we’ll back the avenging dog in this fierce Holy War rivalry. We recommend a strong 3* play on BYU. Thank you and good luck as always.
