1-Unit Play. Take 'Over' 7.0 L.A. Dodgers at Washington (8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13)
I have a hard time seeing Max Scherzer losing twice in one series. The Dodgers jumped on him in the first game but I can't see that being the case here. Instead, I like Washington to get some cuts in against Rich Hill. Hill has been great this year. There is no denying it. But it has almost been inexplicable considering what a failure he has been as a starter throughout his career. And, really, the guy just hasn't thrown enough over the last few years for me to trust him in a spot like this. He has allowed 11 runs in his last 20 innings and didn't look good in his first postseason start. I think Scherzer will have the upper hand in this one, and I expect both teams to get their cuts in. If we lose this game I think it will be by a lot, as I actually don't see this as a close game. I think that one of the teams is going to take control early and win this one 6-2 or 7-3 or somewhere thereabouts.
2-Unit Play. Take #962 Washington (-150) over Los Angeles (8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13)
I like the home team in this game. I think Washington has looked like the better team in this series to this point. They have a big edge with Max Scherzer on the mound and they have a big edge with home field advantage here. The Nationals have been the better team all season between these two. The Dodgers have a losing record on the road this year and Washington is 13-6 in Scherzer's last 19 home starts. They are 19-7 in his last 26 starts overall and I don't think that the Dodgers are going to beat him twice in one series. I think that he will take care of business and the Nationals should advance.
2 Unit Play. Take #962 Washington -145 over Los Angeles Dodgers (8:05p.m., Thursday October 13)
Game Five is tonight in Nationals Park and the Washington Nationals need starter pitcher Max Scherzer to keep the ball in the ball park. Dodgers have Rich Hill on the mound but how healthy is he and the Dodgers have already said that this game will have multiple pitchers in this game. The Dodgers are 2-8 in their last 10 playoff road games and the Dodgers are 2-5 in their last 7 games. Washington is 6-0 following a loss and the Nats are 4-0 when Scherzer's gets 5 days of rest.
4 Unit Play. Take #962 Washington Nationals -145 over Los Angeles Dodgers (8:05 PM, Thursday, October 13, FS1)
The Washington Nationals will look for a win to advance to the NLCS to take on the Chicago Cubs when they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a winner take all Game 5 at Nationals Park in Washington DC on Thursday night. Max Scherzer (20-8, 3.03 ERA, 0.96 WHIP) will get the start for the Nationals and he will be opposed by Rich Hill (3-3, 2.56 ERA, 0.91 WHIP), who is scheduled to get the call on the hill for the Dodgers despite the fact that he is dealing with blisters on his pitching hand. Washington has posted an 11-5 record in their last sixteen home games where they faced a team with a losing record on the road and they have gone an excellent 13-6 in their last nineteen home games overall. They have also gone 4-1 in their last five home games where they faced a left handed starter and they have won 19 of Scherzer's last 27 starts. The Dodgers, on the other hand, have struggled a bit in the spot they are in here tonight as they have gone just 1-5 in their last six games following a day off and they have gone winless in Hill's last four starts. They have also lost five of their last seven games overall and they are an awful 2-8 in their last ten playoff road games. Throw in the fact that the Nats are a perfect 6-0 in their last six games following a loss and we'll lay the price with them here to get the win and move on to face the Cubs in Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday night in the Windy City.
