Oak Tree at Pleasanton - Race #8 - Post: 5:15pm - Maiden Special - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $26,000 Class Rating: 82

      Rating: 4

      #5 BOLD CHARMANT (ML=8/1)
      #1 LA WAUN (ML=10/1)
      #7 MON CAMO (ML=6/1)
      #2 POWER TIMES TWO (ML=5/1)

BOLD CHARMANT - Maiden is moving to the dirt, and may not have liked the turf last out. Has a good chance to win for the 1st time. LA WAUN - Herrera comes to get aboard after getting to know the gelding in the last contest. I'll bet that this gelding even surprised his connections when he made his bow on August 27th and finished third. MON CAMO - Rider hops right back on after getting to know the race horse by riding last time around the track. That's always a good indicator. The recent bullet 48.6 work should put this gelding on track for today's race. Lets try to beat the favorites with this gelding. Just missed last out, but ran a pretty good race. POWER TIMES TWO - Rider hops back on after getting to know the thoroughbred by riding in the last race. That's always a great angle. Lots of trouble last race. This time around Hernandez should keep him clean so he runs a good race.

      Vulnerable Contenders: #6 ISHI (ML=2/1), #3 PLAYING THROUGH (ML=7/2), #4 TORTOSA (ML=9/2),

ISHI - In the last event this entrant finished sixth. Doesn't look good for his chances this time around. PLAYING THROUGH - This gelding registered a rating in his last race which likely isn't good enough in today's event. TORTOSA - Don't believe this vulnerable equine will do much running in today's race. That last speed figure was mediocre when compared with today's class rating.

      STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Bet on #5 BOLD CHARMANT to win if we can get at least 4/1 odds

        RECOMMENDED CHOICES
        The Walker Group Picks

        # 3 WILBO 7/2

        # 7 WINGS LOCKED UP 3/1

        # 8 IVAN FALLUNOVALOT 6/5

I think WILBO is a solid choice. Must be given a shot based on the competitive speed rating earned in the last race. Is hard not to examine given the company run in as of late. Is a solid contender based on figs recorded lately under today's conditions. WINGS LOCKED UP - Will probably go to the lead and might never look back. Has very strong Equibase Speed Figures and has to be considered for a wager in this race. IVAN FALLUNOVALOT - Has been moving admirably and has among the most favorable speed in the race for today's distance. Players ought to take a good look at this one as this gelding has one of the best win percentages at this distance in this field.

                  Preview: Twins at Tigers

                  Gracenote
                  Sep 24, 2017

The Minnesota Twins are getting their offense back on track at the expense of the Detroit Tigers pitching staff and are closing in on the second American League wild card. The Twins will try to ride their hot bats to a four-game sweep when they visit the Tigers for the finale on Sunday.

Minnesota totaled six runs while dropping three straight at the New York Yankees to begin the road trip this week but pounded out 29 runs in taking the first three from the Tigers to cut its magic number to five. The Twins, who will likely have to go back to Yankee Stadium for the one-game wild card playoff, still have to head to Cleveland for three games against the AL-best Indians before finishing up the regular season at home against Detroit next weekend. The Tigers (62-93), who announced on Friday that manager Brad Ausmus would not be back next season as the rebuilding project continues, are losers of six straight to drop into last place in the AL Central behind the Chicago White Sox (62-92). Detroit will try to avoid the sweep behind Buck Farmer on Sunday while the Twins counter with fellow right-hander Jose Berrios.

                  TV:
12:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Jose Berrios (12-8, 3.94 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Buck Farmer (4-4, 7.11)

Berrios is winless in four starts this month and was knocked around for three runs and five hits over 3 1/3 innings to suffer a loss at New York on Tuesday. The Puerto Rico native is struggling with his control of late and issued eight walks in nine total innings over his last two outings. Berrios was lit up for six runs on as many hits and did not record a strikeout in 3 1/3 innings at Detroit on Aug. 12.

Farmer is not enjoying much success this month as well and lost his last two starts while allowing a total of nine runs - eight earned - and 10 hits across 6 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old is trying to lock up a spot in next season's rotation but is surrendering an opposing batting average of .279 in nine starts. Farmer is seeing the Twins for the first time this season and is just 1-3 with an 11.65 ERA at home.

                  WALK-OFFS

                  1. Twins RF Max Kepler (left hip) left Saturday's game and will be re-evaluated on Sunday.

                  2. Detroit RHP Alex Wilson suffered a fractured shin when he was hit by a line drive off the bat of Minnesota's Joe Mauer on Saturday.

                  3. Minnesota DH Robbie Grossman is 4-for-10 with five RBIs and three runs scored in the series.

                  PREDICTION: Twins 6, Tigers 2

                      Sep 23, 2017

The New York Yankees are back in the postseason and will complete the road portion of their schedule when they finish a three-game series at the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. A 5-1 win Saturday afternoon propelled the Yankees to the playoffs for the 19th time in 23 years, although they will need a near-miraculous comeback to avoid having to participate in the winner-take-all wild-card game.

New York, which has won 15 of its last 20, enters Sunday's action trailing first-place Boston by four games in the American League East with eight to play. Greg Bird's three-run homer was the big blow for the Yankees on Saturday and he has gone deep three times while driving in eight runs over his last seven games. New York will be trying to win its season-high seventh straight series and can even the season series at eight wins apiece with a victory in the finale. The Blue Jays will be playing their final game of the year at home before completing the regular season with three at Boston and three in Yankee Stadium.

TV: 1:07 p.m. ET, YES (New York), Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH Jaime Garcia (5-9, 4.19 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Marcus Stroman (12-8, 3.01)

Garcia is winless in seven starts since joining the Yankees despite posting a 3.86 ERA. He has failed to complete six innings in any of those outings but has yielded just two earned runs in 15 1/3 innings over his last three appearances. The 31-year-old gave up four runs over 5 1/3 frames in a visit to Toronto on May 16 while a member of the Atlanta Braves, and he is 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA in four career meetings.

Stroman won't be included in many Cy Young Award discussions but he ranks third behind favorites Corey Kluber and Chris Sale in the AL ERA race after limiting Kansas City to a run across seven innings his last time out. The Duke product owns a 2.52 ERA in 17 home starts and a 2.97 mark in 11 career appearances versus New York. Stroman has had some issues with Brett Gardner (9-for-30, two home runs), Aaron Judge (4-for-8, one home run) and Matt Holliday (3-for-6, one home run).

                      WALK-OFFS

                      1. Three Yankees relievers combined to pitch three scoreless innings Saturday, extending the bullpen's scoreless streak to 21 2/3 innings.

                      2. Blue Jays OF Teoscar Hernandez has homered in each of the first two games of the series.

                      3. New York 3B Todd Frazier has drawn 11 walks in his last 10 contests.

PREDICTION: Blue Jays 5, Yankees 4

The Boston Red Sox are taking advantage of the schedule and chipping away at their magic number to clinch the American League East. The Red Sox will try to pull off a three-game sweep and earn their sixth consecutive victory when they visit the Cincinnati Reds for the finale of an interleague set on Sunday.

Boston has not faced a team with a winning record in any of its last 17 games and is 13-4 in that span to open up a four-game lead in the division and reduce its magic number to five. The Red Sox pitching staff is leading the way of late and secured its third shutout in four games with Saturday's 5-0 triumph - the 11th time in the last 17 games that the staff surrendered three or fewer runs. The Reds are losers of five straight and struggling to play spoiler with each of those setbacks coming against teams fighting for playoff position. Cincinnati will try to avoid the sweep in its home finale on Sunday behind rookie righty Jackson Stephens on Sunday while the Red Sox counter with veteran righty Doug Fister.

                          TV:
1:10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Doug Fister (5-8, 4.86 ERA) vs. Reds RH Jackson Stephens (2-0, 4.80)

Fister seemed to carry the Boston rotation for a few weeks at the end of August and into early September but fell hard off that pace in his last two turns. The California native was lit up for a total of 11 runs in six innings over those two starts and issued five walks in just two frames at Baltimore on Monday. Fister last saw Cincinnati as a member of the Washington Nationals in 2015 and allowed one earned run in six innings without earning a decision.

Stephens is making his third major-league start and is coming off the worst outing of his brief career after surrendering five runs on five hits over 3 2/3 innings against St. Louis on Tuesday. The 23-year-old yielded a total of four home runs in 8 2/3 innings across his two starts. Stephens went 7-10 with a 4.92 ERA in 26 games - 25 starts - at Triple-A Louisville before joining the Reds.

                          WALK-OFFS

                          1. Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (knee) and RF Mookie Betts (foot) were both scratched from Saturday's lineup and are day-to-day.

                          2. Cincinnati LF Adam Duvall is hitless in his last seven games.

                          3. Boston INF Eduardo Nunez (knee), who has not played since Sept. 9, is expected to run the bases prior to Sunday's game.

PREDICTION: Red Sox 8, Reds 6

A pair of 15-game winners square off Sunday afternoon when the New York Mets host the Washington Nationals in the finale of a three-game series. The Mets will give the ball to ace Jacob deGrom, who was slated to start Friday's series opener but was pushed back due to an upset stomach.

The Nationals counter with Max Scherzer as he attempts to bolster what could be a second straight Cy Young Award campaign. Daniel Murphy slugged a solo homer in the top of the 10th inning to lift Washington to a 4-3 win Saturday night, improving his career average against his former team to .390. Matt Wieters and Adam Lind also went deep as the Nationals matched the Washington franchise record (2005-present) for road victories (48) with four games still left to play. The Mets are 6-13 at home against the Nationals since the start of last season.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, MASN (Washington), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Max Scherzer (15-6, 2.59 ERA) vs. Mets RH Jacob deGrom (15-9, 3.55)

Scherzer rebounded from back-to-back poor outings to win at Atlanta on Tuesday, holding the Braves to two runs in seven innings. He struck out 10 in eight dominant innings at New York on June 16 but gave up eight runs in 14 frames over a pair of April encounters with the Mets. Jose Reyes (9-for-26, one home run) is among the few New York hitters to have much success against Scherzer, who has a stellar 1.79 ERA in eight career starts at Citi Field.

The 29-year-old deGrom will set a career high with his 31st start of the season and should surpass 200 innings for the first time. He was roughed up in his first outing of the month before rebounding to yield three runs and strike out 17 batters across 13 innings over his next two outings. The Stetson product fanned 10 in a dominant 7 2/3-inning start at Washington last month and is 5-3 with a 2.75 mark in 11 career meetings.

                              WALK-OFFS

                              1. Lind has two homers, five RBIs, three walks and three runs scored in the series.

                              2. Mets LF Brandon Nimmo has at least one strikeout in 13 straight games.

                              3. Murphy has 35 RBIs in 37 career games versus New York.

                              PREDICTION: Nationals 4, Mets 3
