When: 7:15 PM ET, Saturday, October 14, 2017
      Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

      Preview: Arkansas at Alabama
      Gracenote
      Oct 12, 2017

Top-ranked Alabama strives to continue its march toward a possible College Football Playoff berth when it hosts Arkansas on Saturday in SEC play. The Crimson Tide have won their first six games by an average of 32.7 points and are looking to knock off the Razorbacks for the 11th consecutive time.

Arkansas' chances of springing an upset aren't high but they will drop to nearly impossible if senior quarterback Austin Allen doesn't play or is hampered by a shoulder injury suffered in last Saturday's 48-22 loss to South Carolina. The Razorbacks plan to firm up Allen's status late in the week but the signal-caller said he underwent an MRI exam and "everything came back looking good." Allen passed for 400 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-30 loss to the Crimson Tide last season when he also was picked off three times by Alabama junior strong safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who returned one for a touchdown. Fitzpatrick was named defensive player of the week by two entities for his performance in last Saturday's 27-19 win over Texas A&M as he had an interception, forced a fumble and recorded three tackles for loss.

TV: 7:15 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: Alabama -30

ABOUT ARKANSAS (2-3, 0-2 SEC): Allen has passed for 850 yards and eight touchdowns against four interceptions, but he had just 84 yards in 24 pass attempts against South Carolina before suffering the injury and leaving in favor of 6-foot-7 redshirt freshman Cole Kelley (140 yards, one touchdown, one interception versus the Gamecocks). Junior wideout Jonathan Nance is having a big season with 23 receptions for 374 yards and five touchdowns. The defense is struggling by allowing an average of 40.7 points over the past three games but the Razorbacks typically receive solid efforts from sophomore middle linebacker De'Jon Harris (team-best 43 tackles) and junior weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw (39 stops).

ABOUT ALABAMA (6-0, 3-0): Junior running back Damien Harris (500 rushing yards, seven scores) rushed for 124 yards in the victory over Texas A&M and said he felt the narrow eight-point margin was something the team needed after winning its previous two games by a combined 125-3. "It was great for our team, because it showed not all games are going to go the way they had in the last couple of games, when we had some big-time wins," Harris told reporters. "We know this is a long season filled with great opponents. We're going to play a lot of good teams in a lot of hostile environments, and things aren't always going to go our way." The defense allows an average of 10.3 points per game and senior cornerback Levi Wallace (team-best three interceptions) and junior free safety Ronnie Harrison (team-high 31 tackles) join Fitzpatrick (28 stops) as standouts in the secondary.

      EXTRA POINTS

      1. Alabama has beaten the Razorbacks by an average of 23.1 points in the 10 meetings under coach Nick Saban.

      2. Crimson Tide sophomore QB Jalen Hurts was 13-of-17 passing for 253 yards and accounted for four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) in last season's win over Arkansas.

      3. The Razorbacks are just 10-24 in SEC play during Bret Bielema's five seasons as coach.

      PREDICTION: Alabama 58, Arkansas 7

          Preview: Missouri at Georgia
          Gracenote
          Oct 12, 2017

Fifth-ranked Georgia continues churning through opposing defenses and climbing up the national rankings, and enters Saturday’s home contest against Missouri looking to extend its best start in 12 years while maintaining control of the SEC East. Last week’s 45-14 rout of Vanderbilt featured the ingredients that have made the Bulldogs a legitimate conference title contender – an offense that rushed for 423 yards and a stingy defense that is third nationally in yards allowed per game.

“It’s nice when people think very highly of you,” Georgia linebacker Roquan Smith told reporters Monday, “but at the end of the day that stuff can go away just like that.” While the Bulldogs continue setting their sights on what could be, the Tigers arrive seeking their first conference victory after falling just short last week in a 40-34 defeat at Kentucky. Missouri has lost four in a row, three of the defeats coming by 18 points or more. “There’s a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel,” Missouri coach Dave Odom told reporters Monday. “We’re going to keep working and progressing to get there.”

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network. LINE: Georgia -30.5

ABOUT MISSOURI (1-4, 0-3 SEC): The Tigers feature the capability for big plays on offense and rank second in the SEC in total offense (469.2 yards per game), totaling 568 yards last week. Quarterback Drew Lock threw three touchdown passes last week, giving him 40 for his career, and wide receiver J’Mon Moore moved into 10th in school history in receiving yards (1,793 yards). Missouri’s biggest issues are on defense, as the Tigers are allowing 40 points per game.

ABOUT GEORGIA (6-0, 3-0): Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm passed for 102 yards and two touchdowns last week. The rushing tandem of Nick Chubb (SEC-leading 618 yards, eight touchdowns) and Sony Michel (406 yards, four scores) fuels a rushing attack that averages 268.3 yards per contest. The Georgia defense has allowed 10 points per game, tops in the conference and second in the country.

          EXTRA POINTS

          1. Missouri LB Terez Hall recorded a career-best 10 tackles last week and ranks second in the SEC in solo tackles and third in tackles for loss.

          2. The Bulldogs hope DT Trenton Thompson (knee) and ILB Reggie Carter (undisclosed) will be able to play Saturday; both missed last week’s game.

          3. Georgia has won five of the six matchups all-time against the Tigers, winning each of the past three seasons.

          PREDICTION: Georgia 47, Missouri 20

              Preview: Cincinnati at South Florida
              Gracenote
              Oct 11, 2017

No. 15 South Florida should be well-rested and healthier as it attempts to make history Saturday night when struggling Cincinnati pays a visit for an American Athletic Conference matchup. The Bulls can tie Oregon (2011-12) for the longest streak in modern college football history by scoring at least 30 points in their 23rd straight game after registering a season-high 61 in the last contest Sept. 30 at East Carolina.

USF has won a school-record 10 straight games and can equal its best start in team history (6-0, 2007), led by an offense that is fifth in the nation in rushing and a defense that is second in rushing yards allowed per contest. “What we try to do is just be a balanced team,” Bulls first-year coach Charlie Strong told reporters. “I always tell our offensive line and our defensive line, ‘We’re going to win football games because of how hard you play.’ If you can’t win up front, you have no chance.” The Bearcats lost 51-23 at Central Florida in a rain-shortened contest last weekend and have allowed 131 points during a three-game losing streak, but junior quarterback Hayden Moore leads a capable offense. “We’ve got to continue to grow,” Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell told reporters. “There are a lot of areas of this ball club where we have gone up and down. All of a sudden someone starts to do something good and then on the other side things start to go the other direction. It’s a rollercoaster.”

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU. LINE: South Florida -24.5

ABOUT CINCINNATI (2-4, 0-2 AAC): Moore has thrown for five touchdowns and just one interception during the losing streak and ran for a career-high 75 yards last week against UCF, but has completed a career-low 53.3 percent of his passes overall. Junior wide receiver Kahlil Lewis is the top target for the Bearcats with 31 catches - seven last week - for 325 yards and four touchdowns while the rushing attack is ranked 117th in the nation (102.2 yards per game). Cincinnati’s defense must step up big time this week and is led by senior linebacker Jaylyin Minor, who boasts a team-high 59 tackles, but the Bearcats have just two interceptions and six sacks.

ABOUT SOUTH FLORIDA (5-0, 2-0): Senior quarterback Quinton Flowers may be falling short of becoming a Heisman Trophy candidate this season with a 52.9 completion percentage, but he has 10 touchdown passes (two interceptions) and five rushing scores. Senior running backs Darius Tice and D’Ernest Johnson, who have combined for 870 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing, appear to be healthy after walking around in protective boots during the bye week and Strong said wide receiver Deangelo Antoine could be available after missing two games. Senior Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the top receiving option with 22 receptions and 322 yards with four TDs (one rushing).

              EXTRA POINTS

              1. USF LB Auggie Sanchez has 335 career tackles and needs three to move past DeDe Lattimore for second on the school’s all-time list.

              2. Cincinnati leads the all-time series 8-6 but dropped the last two, including a 65-27 setback at Tampa in 2015 and a 45-20 loss last year at home.

              3. Flowers is 11 shy of 3,000 rushing yards in his career and 11 attempts from 500 while Johnson is 71 rushing yards from moving into 10th all-time at the school.

                  Gracenote
                  Oct 11, 2017

Eighth-ranked Ohio State’s defense is following the lead of its productive offense during an impressive four-game winning streak and the Buckeyes hope to extend that to five when they visit Nebraska for a Big Ten matchup on Saturday night. Ohio State is averaging 52.5 points over the last four games, but has also allowed just 10.5 in the same stretch and limited Maryland to 66 total yards in a 62-14 victory last week.

“The defense smothered them and stopped them,” Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer told reporters of his team, which has allowed 53.8 yards per game through the air during the win streak after struggling early in the season. “The line of scrimmage we dominated.” Senior quarterback J.T. Barrett (16 touchdown passes, one interception in 2017) looks to continue his roll leading the Ohio State offense and match last season’s performance when he threw for four scores in a 62-3 win over the Cornhuskers. Nebraska was within seven points of No. 6 Wisconsin entering the fourth quarter last week before dropping a 38-17 decision after winning its first two Big Ten contests. The Buckeyes have given up some rushing yards (150.5 per game) during their winning streak and junior running back Devine Ozigbo will try to take advantage after registering at least 100 in three straight games for the Cornhuskers.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1. LINE: Ohio State -24

ABOUT OHIO STATE (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten): Barrett, who is completing 63.8 percent of his passes, has seven receivers who have recorded at least 143 yards and 10 different players own touchdown receptions. Freshman running back J.K. Dobbins continues to add to his outstanding season with 669 yards rushing (7.6 per carry) and four touchdowns, gaining at least 95 in four of six games, while Barrett has run for 311 yards to place second on the team. The Buckeyes lost right guard Branden Bowen for the season with a broken left leg, but could get back defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones back after he missed the last two contests with a leg injury.

ABOUT NEBRASKA (3-3, 2-1): Ozigbo has rushed for 327 yards - including a career-best 112 last week - and may get some help Saturday if junior Mikale Wilbon (251 yards) can return from an ankle injury that kept him out of last week. Junior quarterback Tanner Lee has thrown for 1,406 yards and 11 touchdowns, but owns a Big Ten-most 10 interceptions while junior Stanley Morgan Jr. (five TD receptions) and senior De’Mornay Pierson-El (four TDs) are the top two targets. Junior safety Aaron Williams has 40 tackles along with a pair of interceptions to lead the Cornhuskers - averaging 26.7 points against - and senior safety Joshua Kalu has 185 career tackles.

                  EXTRA POINTS

                  1. Morgan’s 30 receptions are tied for second-most and his 510 receiving yards are second alone through six games of a single season in Nebraska history.

                  2. Barrett needs 21 yards to pass former Nebraska star Tommy Armstrong for seventh on the Big Ten’s all-time list in total offense and 76 to go by Denard Robinson for sixth.

                  3. The Cornhuskers have lost four of five against the Buckeyes, but earned the only victory in the last game at Lincoln 34-27 in 2011 before giving up 125 points in the last two meetings.

                      Oct 11, 2017

No. 22 Michigan State is ranked for the first time this season and will look to keep its momentum moving forward when it visits Minnesota for a Big Ten matchup on Saturday. The Spartans are coming off an upset at then-No. 7 Michigan, while the Golden Gophers return home after a second straight last-minute loss at Purdue.

Coach Mark Dantonio has his team back in the title hunt in the Big Ten thanks to a defense that has allowed 14 or fewer points in four of its five contests while ranking second in the country in pass efficiency defense and fourth in total defense (258.6 yards per game). Offensively, sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke has been outstanding, leading the team in passing (1,057 yards, nine touchdowns) and rushing (309, three) and ranking third in the conference in total offense (273.2 yards per game). Minnesota has been tied or in the lead in the last five minutes of its two conference losses, so coach P.J. Fleck isn’t panicking and will stay with Conor Rhoda (786 yards, five TDs) at quarterback. Injuries have hurt the Golden Gophers in recent weeks, and Fleck will have to replace four sidelined starters – three on defense – for this week’s game.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network. LINE: Michigan State -4

ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE (4-1, 2-0 Big Ten): The Spartans are averaging 181.6 yards on the ground, even with no running back stepping forward and giving consistent production. Junior LJ Scott hasn’t lived up to expectations, averaging only 53.5 yards, and didn’t play against Michigan because of a minor undisclosed injury, while Madre London and Gerald Holmes split time against the Wolverines - although neither is averaging even 35 yards. Dantonio continues to say he’ll rotate all three backs and if one gets hot, he’ll try to ride him more, but the lack of consistent production by any of the three is becoming a concern.

ABOUT MINNESOTA (3-2, 0-2): Fleck isn't planning on changing quarterbacks this week, but that doesn't mean he's going to have Rhoda try to pass the Gophers to victory, especially with wide receiver Phillip Howard out after suffering a head injury in the loss to Purdue. The freshman was hurt on the second play from scrimmage and Fleck turned to his ground game, running the ball 47 times for 227 yards while passing only 25 times for 101 yards. Throw in Rhoda's two turnovers deep in Boilermakers territory, the return to the lineup of center Jared Weyler and Michigan State's solid pass defense, and it's very likely Fleck and the Gophers will be going with the ground attack quite a bit when they have the ball.

                      EXTRA POINTS

                      1. Minnesota leads the Big Ten and is eighth in the nation in fewest penalties committed with 21 through five games, which is less than half of what the team had through five contests last season (43).

                      2. Michigan State had a turnover margin of minus-6 through the first three games of the season but is plus-7 over its last two contests without a single turnover by the offense.

                      3. Spartans S David Dowell made two interceptions against Michigan last week, becoming the first MSU player to record two in one game since Trae Wayes in 2014 against Nebraska.

PREDICTION: Michigan State 31, Minnesota 17

Five of the six teams in the Pac-12 South Division have one loss and two will meet up Saturday when No. 13 USC hosts No. 23 Utah at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Stanford moved to No. 25 in the coaches' poll after handing the Utes their first loss of the season last weekend, while the Trojans bounced back from their only defeat two weeks ago against No. 9 Washington State by defeating Oregon State on Saturday.

Troy Williams led Utah to nine wins last season, including a 31-27 victory against visiting USC, but the Los Angeles-area native lost the starting quarterback job this season to sophomore Tyler Huntley, who hasn't played since suffering a shoulder injury against Arizona on Sept. 22. Williams was back in the starting lineup last weekend against Stanford, but was intercepted twice late in the game to spoil the comeback, and coach Kyle Whittingham wasn't ready to commit to a starter against the Trojans earlier this week. USC has also been dinged by injuries, particularly at wide receiver and the offensive line, but starters are beginning to filter back and the Trojans still have their best two offensive weapons in quarterback Sam Darnold and running back Ronald Jones II. Darnold, who made his first career start against the Utes last season, has been steady but not as spectacular as many envisioned heading into this season.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ABC. LINE: USC -13.

ABOUT UTAH (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12): The Utes have a difference maker on defense in linebacker Sunia Tauteoli, who recorded 11 tackles in last week's loss to Stanford, including 3 1/2 for losses. He's not only big, fast and athletic, but the 26-year-old is more mature physically and mentally than most of his opponents. Stanford running back Bryce Love rushed for 152 yards against Utah last week, averaging 7.6 yards a carry, but even those were seasons lows, and Love told reporters after the game, “No. 10 was flying around from sideline to sideline,” in reference to Tauteoli.

ABOUT USC (5-1, 3-1): Leading receiver Deontay Burnett is among the injured Trojans they hope to get back on the field this week. He practiced lightly on Tuesday after leaving the game Saturday with a toe injury, the second time this season he has been slowed by injury. Second-leading receiver Stephen Mitchell Jr. returned Saturday after missing two games with a groin injury, but Jalen Greene has remained sidelined the past two games with a concussion, another reason USC burned the redshirt year of freshmen wide receiver Randal Grimes against Oregon State.

                          EXTRA POINTS

                          1. Utah leads the nation with 16 field goals and an average of 44.75 net punting yards.

                          2. Darnold has been intercepted at least once in every game this season, and the Utes have nine interceptions, tied with USC for sixth in the nation.

                          3. The Trojans have won seven in a row at home against the Utes since its last loss in 1916.

                          PREDICTION: USC 31, Utah 24

Two quarterbacks who prefer to move the ball in different ways will meet Saturday when Arizona hosts UCLA in a Pac-12 South Division game. UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen has passed for at least 350 yards in five straight games, and Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate is coming off a 327-yard rushing effort that broke the FBS record by a quarterback.

Both teams are coming off close wins against Colorado and each are among five teams in the South Division with one conference loss. Tate didn't start against the Buffaloes last Saturday, entering the game after starter Brandon Dawkins was injured by a late hit on the opening drive and then leading the Wildcats to a 45-42 victory by contributing touchdown runs of 58, 28, 47 and 75 yards, and throwing for 142 yards and a score. The Bruins had a week off after defeating Colorado 27-23 on Sept. 30, giving them a chance to get healthy and work on a run defense that ranks second-to-last in the FBS at 284.2 rushing yards allowed per game, 85 more than the next-closest Pac-12 team. Arizona's offense is ranked fourth in the FBS at 319.4 rushing yards per game, which is also tops in the conference.

                              TV: 9 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Network. LINE: UCLA -1

ABOUT UCLA (3-2, 1-1 Pac-12): The Bruins' ground game is better than it was last season, when it finished last in the FBS at 84.3 rushing yards per game, but there's still plenty of room for improvement and Arizona might provide that opportunity. Although it still ranks 10th in the Pac-12 at 115 rushing yards a game, UCLA seems to have found a reliable ball carrier in junior Soso Jamabo, who has combined for 170 rushing yards the past two games and two touchdowns. Jamabo, who missed the second and third games this season with an undisclosed injury, also gives Rosen a solid option out of the backfield, evident by his five catches in the past two games.

ABOUT ARIZONA (3-2, 1-1): Tate made his college debut against the Bruins last season on the second possession of the second half, and his first two drives resulted in 10 points in the 45-24 loss at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. That experience, playing UCLA at home and what he accomplished last week should give Tate plenty of confidence, but he'll likely need help to beat the improving Bruins. Nick Wilson will be facing UCLA for the fourth time in his career and the former 1,300-yard rusher who has battled injuries the past two seasons should be eager to take advantage of the Bruins' weak run defense.

                              EXTRA POINTS

                              1. Rosen's streak of seven straight 300-yard passing games is the longest active streak in the nation.

                              2. Arizona's defense has 21 three-and-outs through the first five games after having 30 in 12 games last season.

                              3. The Wildcats have converted five of six fourth-down tries (83.3 percent), which is tied for sixth in the nation.
