Zcode NFL Public Fade Plays - Week 6

A 1-2 weekend brings our YTD to 11-4. Let’s see if we can keep it going with a few potential plays for Week 6. The main strategy I want to implement is fading the public. Books are always looking to exploit public perception so hopefully we can find a few winners by fading the public in a few heavily public-bet games. Obviously, this is written on Wednesday (10/11) so always keep an eye on the changing lines and percentages.

      PHILADELPHIA @ CAROLINA
The Eagles have won three straight games and the betting public has taken notice.

While the Eagles are hot, Carolina has won two games in a row on the road, including at New England. Cam Newton has bounced back from a slow start and, now back at home, this is a game the Panthers have to win. Let’s take Carolina -3 (5Dimes)
      DETROIT @ NEW ORLEANS
Neither team has looked particularly good but the public has jumped on the Lions.

Detroit is struggling with injuries as Haloti Ngata is out for the season and Matthew Stafford is going to play through a hamstring and ankle issue. With New Orleans coming off a bye week, the Saints should be fresh and ready to throw the ball against 4th worst passing defense in the league. Let’s take New Orleans -5.5 (5Dimes)
      PITTSBURGH @ KANSAS CITY
Kansas City is the only undefeated team left and the public is still riding that train.

The Chiefs looked great winning at Houston while Ben Roethlisberger threw 5 interceptions during arguably the worst game of his career. This is a great spot to buy low and catch a hungry Steelers team looking to bounce back. Let’s take Pittsburgh +5 (BetOnline)
Like I mentioned, we have a few days until these games take place with lots of wagering in between so keeping an eye on the lines and percentages throughout the week is important. Fading the public is very successful when the public side is 80%+ so keep that in mind as the week progresses and the betting volume grows.

GAME: Chicago Cubs (95-73) at Los Angeles Dodgers (108-58)
        DATE/TIME: Sunday, October 15 - 7:30 PM EST
WHERE: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
        LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

        Playoff Series:
League Championship; LA Dodgers leads 1-0

        Preview: Cubs at Dodgers

        Gracenote
        Oct 15, 2017

After going all-in to close out the National League Division Series and facing Clayton Kershaw in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series, the Chicago Cubs figured they might be in this position. The Los Angeles Dodgers can keep the defending World Series champions on the ropes with another victory at home on Sunday.

Albert Almora Jr. gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead in the opener with a two-run blast off Kershaw in the fourth inning, but he wound up being the team’s last baserunner. Kershaw retired the final six batters he faced and the Dodgers’ bullpen set down 12 straight to close out a 5-2 victory. Chicago's bats need to bounce back against veteran Rich Hill, who was drafted by the Cubs and went 18-17 with a 4.37 ERA over his first four major-league seasons with the club from 2005-08. The Dodgers have belted five home runs while winning their first four playoff games and will try to keep it going against Jon Lester, who is slated to start on three days’ rest after an extended relief outing in Game 4 of the NLDS against Washington.
        TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, TBS

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs LH Jon Lester (13-8, 4.33 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Rich Hill (12-8, 3.32)
Lester was outstanding in one start and one relief appearance in the NLDS, allowing two runs and three hits over 9 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old is the active leader in postseason innings pitched with 143 1/3 and owns a 9-7 record and 2.57 ERA in 24 playoff appearances (20 starts). Lester is 2-3 with a 3.89 ERA in seven career regular-season starts against the Dodgers and went 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts in last year’s NLCS matchup.
Hill started Game 2 of the NLDS against Arizona, allowing two runs and three hits over four innings of a no-decision. The 37-year-old is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in five career postseason starts. Hill has made only one relief appearance against his former team in the regular season, but he limited the Cubs to two hits over six scoreless innings of a win in Game 3 of last year’s NLCS.

        WALK-OFFS
        1. The Cubs registered four hits in Game 1, marking the third time in six games this postseason they have recorded fewer than five.
        2. Dodgers RHP Kenley Jansen struck out all four batters he faced in the series opener for his 11th postseason save, tying him with Jason Isringhausen and Robb Nen for the fourth-most in MLB history.
        3. Los Angeles SS Charlie Culberson, a late addition to the NLCS roster to replace injured star Corey Seager (back), notched a double and a sacrifice fly in Game 1.

        PREDICTION: Dodgers 4, Cubs 3

            Preview: Bruins at Golden Knights

            Gracenote
            Oct 15, 2017

The Vegas Golden Knights attempt to bounce back from the first loss in franchise history when they continue their seven-game homestand Sunday against the Boston Bruins. Vegas won the first three games of its inaugural season and was one period away from a fourth straight victory before imploding in the third period on Friday and dropping a 6-3 decision to Detroit.

James Neal scored his sixth goal in four contests to help give the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead after two periods, but the team surrendered four tallies over the final 20 minutes to fall to 1-1-0 on its homestand. Boston has split the first two contests of its three-game road trip, falling to Colorado 6-3 on Wednesday before rolling past Arizona 6-2 three nights later. Captain Zdeno Chara recorded a goal and two assists while Brad Marchand, Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak all added one of each as the Bruins extended their winning streak against the Coyotes to 11 games. Marchand leads the team with five points after netting a tally and setting up another in each of the first two contests of Boston's trek.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet One, NESN (Boston), AT&T SportsNet-Rocky Mountain (Vegas)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (2-2-0): Anders Bjork also scored in Saturday's victory, converting a power-play opportunity late in the third period for his first career goal. The 21-year-old left wing, who was a fifth-round pick in the 2014 draft, made his NHL debut in the season opener and notched an assist. Tim Schaller has tallied in back-to-back contests after being kept off the scoresheet in each of the first two games of the season.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (3-1-0): Less than 24 hours after scoring his first goal of the season, Erik Haula was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a lower-body injury. The 26-year-old Finnish left wing, who was selected from Minnesota's roster in the expansion draft, is one of only two Golden Knights (defenseman Nate Schmidt) with at least one goal and one assist thus far this season. To replace Haula on the roster, Vegas recalled 30-year-old Russian center Vadim Shipachyov - who signed with the team after recording 422 points in 416 games in the Kontinental Hockey League - from Chicago of the American Hockey League.

            OVERTIME

            1. The Golden Knights are just 1-for-17 on the power play, with Neal scoring the goal.

            2. Boston C Danton Heinen registered two assists on Saturday after notching one in his season debut three days earlier.

            3. Neal is the first player in the expansion era to record a goal in each of a team's first four games.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 4, Bruins 2

                Preview: Sabres at Ducks

                Gracenote
                Oct 15, 2017

The Anaheim Ducks continue to battle through a barrage of injuries to start their season and likely will be without their captain when the winless Buffalo Sabres pay them a visit on Sunday. Ryan Getzlaf (lower body), who missed the first two games of the season before recording two points in the next two, sat out Thursday’s 3-1 loss at Colorado and reportedly did not skate at practice on Saturday.

Anaheim, which registered only 18 shots in the setback against rejuvenated Colorado and has yet to score a power-play goal in 17 opportunities this season, also has been without center Ryan Kesler (hip) and defensemen Sami Vatanen (shoulder) and Hampus Lindholm (shoulder). “It’s always a hit when you’re missing your best player and your captain,” Ducks blue-liner Cam Fowler told reporters about Getzlaf. “Obviously, we’re a better team when he’s in the lineup. But we have to find ways to make contributions when we’re missing key guys like that.” The Sabres dropped their fifth straight game to open the season (0-4-1) on Saturday, giving up three power-play tallies in a 4-2 setback against Los Angeles. Buffalo has scored just 11 goals on the season and Zemgus Girgensons became only the fourth player to record one on Saturday, netting a tally that gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead in the first period.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, MSG (Buffalo), Prime Ticket (Anaheim)

ABOUT THE SABRES (0-4-1): Evander Kane and Jason Pominville have scored four goals apiece while Jack Eichel notched his second on Saturday, but Buffalo is searching for more offense. “We haven’t had many bounce goals, battling goals,” center Ryan O’Reilly, who has posted one assist and a minus-4 rating in five games, told the Buffalo News. “So, it’s an issue. Forwards need to get to the net more and (our defensemen) need to get the puck there quicker.” Kyle Okposo, who has yet to record a point in four games, missed Saturday’s contest due to illness and is considered day-to-day.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (2-2-1): John Gibson, who suffered an upper-body injury on Thursday, was back at practice Saturday and veteran backup Ryan Miller (upper body) reportedly is close to returning after starting the season on the shelf. Veteran Andrew Cogliano has picked up some of the slack with all the key players out, registering two goals and four assists to lead the team with six points while posting a plus-5 rating. “I just need to contribute at both ends of the rink,” Cogliano told the Orange County Register. “Usually when I do that, success follows me. Hopefully, I can continue with that.”

                OVERTIME

                1. Buffalo C Sam Reinhart, who has averaged 20 goals over the last two seasons, has yet to record a point and owns a minus-8 rating in five games.

                2. The Ducks, who have allowed five power-play goals in five contests this season, are 6-1-1 in their last eight meetings with the Sabres.

                3. Fowler, who has recorded a short-handed tally and an assist in the early going, is expected to play his 500th NHL game Sunday.

                PREDICTION: Ducks 3, Sabres 2

                    Preview: Islanders at Kings

                    Gracenote
                    Oct 15, 2017

The Los Angeles Kings have yet to lose in regulation this season, and they look to keep the streak going when they continue their four-game homestand Sunday against the New York Islanders. Los Angeles posted a 4-2 victory over Buffalo on Saturday, scoring three third-period goals - including defenseman Drew Doughty's power-play tally with two minutes remaining to snap a tie - to improve to 3-0-1 on the season and 1-0-1 on the homestand.

The Kings finally have gotten their power play going as they went 3-for-3 with the man advantage against the Sabres after failing to convert their first 16 opportunities of the season. New York posted a 3-1 victory at San Jose on Saturday to even its mark at 1-1-0 on its four-game road trip but remained one of two teams (Anaheim) without a power-play goal this season after an 0-for-3 performance. Thomas Greiss made 40 saves against his former club while Brock Nelson recorded his team-leading third goal in the second period to break a 1-1 deadlock. Nelson shares the team scoring lead of four points with Casey Cizikas and Joshua Ho-Sang, each of whom notched an assist versus the Sharks.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, MSG Plus (New York), FSN West (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (2-2-1): Jordan Eberle sat out Friday's practice after taking a hard hit a day earlier, but he was in the lineup against San Jose and registered an assist. The 27-year-old forward, who was acquired from Edmonton in June, has yet to score a goal with his new team. Cal Clutterbuck returned from a two-game absence due to a hip injury and scored into an empty net for his first point of the campaign.

ABOUT THE KINGS (3-0-1): Los Angeles has been led offensively by its former and current captains, as Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar have recorded six points apiece. Brown, a former 33-goal scorer who has failed to notch 20 in each of his last five seasons, tops the club with four. Defenseman Alec Martinez made his season debut Saturday and recorded an assist after missing the team's first three contests with a lower-body injury.

                    OVERTIME

                    1. Kings D Oscar Fantenberg notched an assist against Buffalo for his first point in four career contests.

                    2. Islanders C John Tavares has been kept off the scoresheet in four of his five games this season, including each of the last three.

                    3. Los Angeles LW Kyle Clifford (upper body) was placed on injured reserve while D Paul LaDue was assigned to Ontario of the American Hockey League.

                    PREDICTION: Kings 4, Islanders 1

Sunday's NLCS Playoff Betting Preview And Odds: Cubs at Dodgers

The Cubs registered four hits in Game 1, marking the third time in six games this postseason they have recorded fewer than five.

Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Dodgers (LAD -150, 7.5)

                                Dodgers lead series 1-0
