Panthers at Canadiens 10/24/17 - NHL Picks & Predictions

    by Jim

Latest Odds: MON -123 Total 5.5

Florida has been playing a win one lose one type of season all year. Which is great if the team wants to finish close to the five hundred mark. However, one aspect the Panthers did not expect to have issues with was the adjustment of the youth to the loss of a lot of the older leadership they had last season in Jagr.

One player who has seemed to hit his stride with or without Jagr is Evgeni Dadonov. Dadonov on the season has managed to get a total of 7 points with 5 of those coming off of assist.

The Canadiens are playing downright horrible on the season. The Montreal team has only managed to pick up a single win on the season so far. However, the Canadiens are looking like the team they could be to beat on the season if a team is looking for a very easy win on the year.

Jonathan Drouin who has managed to lead the Canadiens on the offensive front. Drouin has been able to put in a total of 5 points and out of those 5 points 2 of them are assist.

    Recent Betting Trends:
Panthers are 6-1 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400.
Canadiens are 9-4 in their last 13 vs. Atlantic.
Over is 4-1 in Panthers last 5 games following a win.
Under is 8-2 in Canadiens last 10 Tuesday games.

Free Betting Pick: Florida Panthers +113

The Panthers are coming into this game and the offense is starting to click at the right time. However, the Panthers are definitely not the strongest team in the league. The Canadiens are very weak this year. Look for the Panthers to come into this game and win in Canada 3-2.

      Preview: Nets at Magic

      Gracenote
      Oct 23, 2017

The Brooklyn Nets are trying to play with pace, crash the lane and fire from long distance in coach Kenny Atkinson's offense and so far, it's working. The Nets will try to earn their third win - second over the Magic - and keep up the pace when they visit Orlando on Tuesday.

Brooklyn is averaging 124.3 points and is second in the NBA going into Monday's action in free-throw attempts (33.7) while shooting 37.6 percent from 3-point range, putting the team above .500 for the first time since it was 4-3 on Nov. 12, 2014. "Our habits are improving," Atkinson told reporters after a 116-104 win over Atlanta on Sunday. "Our attention to detail is improving. We still have a long way to go. ... We have to be more disciplined, but I do see improvement." Some of that improvement was evident on Friday at home against Orlando, when the Nets placed six scorers in double figures and had three more players score nine points in a 126-121 victory. That marked the only loss in the first three games of the Magic, who rebounded from that setback with one of the most impressive victories of the young season in the entire league - a 114-93 triumph at Cleveland on Saturday.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), FSN Florida (Orlando)

ABOUT THE NETS (2-1): Brooklyn guard D'Angelo Russell is taking on a bigger role as the playmaker with Jeremy Lin (knee) sidelined, and he handed out a season-high 10 assists in Sunday's win to boost his averages to 21 points and seven assists. Russell is getting some help on the offensive end from sixth man Allen Crabbe, who broke out for a team-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting on Sunday. "The basket looks bigger and bigger after each one I make," Crabbe told reporters. "Just playing with confidence, I think that’s going to be my biggest thing."

ABOUT THE MAGIC (2-1): Orlando center Nikola Vucevic scored a career-high 41 points on 17-of-22 shooting in the loss at Brooklyn and followed it up with another efficient performance by scoring 23 points on 11-of-16 from the floor at Cleveland. Vucevic's efforts on the interior opened up space on the perimeter, and the Magic were able to knock down 17 3-pointers in the win. "We’re starting to play offensively consistently the right way in terms of not settling and understanding that we want to attack early and the ball is really hopping," coach Frank Vogel told reporters. "We’re scoring the ball well and shooting the ball well as a result of the ball movement and the quality of our shots."

      BUZZER BEATERS

      1. Magic SF Jonathan Simmons is averaging 13.7 points on 51.9 percent shooting in 23.3 minutes off the bench.

      2. Brooklyn PF Trevor Booker is averaging 17 points on 59.4 percent shooting and recorded two double-doubles in the first three games.

      3. The home team took each of the last five meetings in the series.

      PREDICTION: Magic 120, Nets 115

          Preview: Knicks at Celtics

          Gracenote
          Oct 23, 2017

The Boston Celtics finally earned their first win and then got three days off to figure out how to keep their emotions in check and move forward without Gordon Hayward. Kyrie Irving will be a little lighter in the wallet by the time the Celtics try to even their record against the visiting New York Knicks on Tuesday.

Irving had an altercation with a fan in the tunnel at halftime in Philadelphia and used a profanity, earning himself a $25,000 fine from the league. "At the end of the day, we're human," Irving told reporters. "It's in heat of the moment, and frustrations arises. We were at halftime, we were down by four, in an environment, a season opener in Philly. Being with a young team like we have here and staying composed, handling that before we go in the locker room and addressing what we have to do in the locker room and going out and handling business and getting the W, that's really the only thing that matters to me." The Knicks have a young team as well and are still looking for their first win after squandering a 21-point lead in a 111-107 loss to the Detroit Pistons in the home opener on Saturday. “We see glimpses where we can be really good,” New York coach Jeff Hornacek told reporters. "But we have to be consistent and be able to do it the whole game."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), NBCSN Boston

ABOUT THE KNICKS (0-2): New York became Kristaps Porzingis' team when Carmelo Anthony was traded to Oklahoma City, and he is responding with an average of 32 points but could use more help from Tim Hardaway Jr. Hardaway, who was brought in on a four-year, $71 million contract, is averaging 11 points on 7-of-26 shooting, including 5-of-17 from 3-point range. "I just have to find new ways," Hardaway Jr. told reporters. "It’s still a new offense but I still have to find ways to get to the line, get to the basket and finish while I’m there. I missed a lot of easy shots (Saturday) that I wish I could take back."

ABOUT THE CELTICS (1-2): Boston planned on leaning heavily on Hayward, Irving and Al Horford while bringing along some promising young players but are finding that the players at the bottom of the roster are making a much-needed impact. Jabari Bird, who was signed to a two-way contract and was planning to go to the G League, was called upon when Hayward went down and got his first action in Friday's win, playing over 13 minutes and locking down on the defensive end. "I think he's got a huge upside," Celtics coach Brad Stevens told reporters. "His rebounding spoke for itself in the preseason practices and his ability to guard on the ball, especially shooters cutting off screens. Just really good. He's not afraid and you knew he would step up."

          BUZZER BEATERS

          1. Celtics G Marcus Smart (ankles) sat out the last game and is questionable for Tuesday.

          2. The Knicks are shooting 27.8 percent from 3-point range.

          3. Boston took three of the four meetings last season and five of the last six.

          PREDICTION: Celtics 110, Knicks 95

              Preview: Pacers at Timberwolves

              Gracenote
              Oct 24, 2017

Andrew Wiggins is fresh off a dramatic game-winning shot and the 22-year-old shooting guard seeks to post his fourth consecutive 20-point outing to open the campaign when the Minnesota Timberwolves host the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. Wiggins banked in a last-second shot from more than 30 feet out to give the Timberwolves a 115-113 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.

Wiggins, who is averaging 24.7 points, recently signed a five-year, $148 million extension and was prepared to take the decisive shot. "Wig is amazing. He's been hitting that shot, weirdly enough, the whole offseason in practice," standout center Karl-Anthony Towns said afterward. "The one thing that came through my mind if I didn't catch it was to set a screen for somebody and just try to get someone (free). I'm glad Wig was able to capitalize on it." Indiana is rebuilding after trading star forward Paul George to Oklahoma City and is receiving strong play from guard Victor Oladipo (22.3 average), who was acquired in the trade. The Pacers will be without starting center Myles Turner (concussion, neck) for the third straight game.

              TV:
              8 p.m. ET, FSN Indiana, FSN Minnesota-Plus

ABOUT THE PACERS (1-2): The absence of Turner is getting newcomer Domantas Sabonis substantial playing time and the 21-year-old recorded 18 points and a career-best 12 rebounds in Saturday's 112-108 loss to the Miami Heat. Sabonis was also acquired in the deal that sent George to the Thunder and is slated to start again after Turner was officially was ruled out on Monday. Veteran Al Jefferson (14 points in 14 minutes against Miami) and rookie TJ Leaf (7.3 average) will be in line to receive extra playing time.

              ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (2-1):
All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, acquired from the Chicago Bulls in the offseason, is still adjusting to playing with Wiggins and Towns and is averaging just 13.3 points and shooting 39.5 percent from the field. Butler's 15 points against the Thunder was his highest in three games - he averaged 23.9 last season - but he is playing solid defense and posted five steals in Friday's win over the Utah Jazz. New point guard Jeff Teague - who played for the Pacers last season - contributed 19 points and nine assists against Oklahoma City, prompting coach Tom Thibodeau to proclaim "that's the Jeff we're all expecting. Great speed, super aggressive, he was attacking."

              BUZZER BEATERS

              1. The teams split two meetings last season, but the Pacers have won six of the past nine meetings.

              2. Towns opened the season with three straight double-doubles after recording 62 last season.

              3. Oladipo topped 20 points in two of the first three games and poured in 28 against Miami.

              PREDICTION: Timberwolves 109, Pacers 103

Kings at Senators 10/24/17 - NHL Picks & Predictions

                  by Mike

Latest Odds: OTT -125 Total 5.5

Playing in back to back games on the road is going to be a challenge for the Kings. However, the Kings should be able to bounce back fairly quickly on the day as the Kings have been a team that has dominated on the season so far and in most cases are starting to get the wins against a lot of strong teams.

The Kings have relied on Jonathan Quick on the season so far. Quick has been able to keep the games close as he has given up 1.99 goals a game.

The Senators are a strong team on the year and outside of the 3 over time losses on the season only have dropped a single game. So it should be interesting for the game here when the Kings are going to be playing in back to back games against the Maple Leafs first then the Senators.

The Senators have had Mike Condon in the net quite a bit this season. Condon has only given up 1 goal a game in the games he has played in.

                  Recent Betting Trends:
Kings are 4-0 in their last 4 overall.
Senators are 5-1 in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
Under is 6-1-3 in Kings last 10 Tuesday games.
Under is 8-3-1 in Senators last 12 games playing on 2 days rest.

Free Betting Pick: Ottawa Senators -125

Playing in back to back games on the road is going to be the downfall of this game for the Kings. The Kings will come into the game playing tired and flat and that will give the Senators the jumpstart that is needed. The Senators will take advantage of a tired Kings team and pick up the win 3-1.

                    Preview: Pelicans at Trail Blazers

                    Gracenote
                    Oct 24, 2017

The New Orleans Pelicans snapped an 11-game losing streak in Portland when they closed the regular season six months ago and look to notch another victory when they visit the Trail Blazers on Tuesday. The Pelicans hadn't won in Portland since Nov. 26, 2010 prior to posting the 103-100 victory in a game in which New Orleans stars Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins missed due to injuries, and the Portland backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were held out to rest for the playoffs.

Lillard averaged 27.7 points in three games against New Orleans last season and has scored in double digits in all 16 career appearances against the Pelicans. The star point guard is averaging 23.7 points through three games this season and scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter during Saturday's 113-110 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. New Orleans picked up its first victory of the season on Sunday when Davis contributed 27 points and 17 rebounds in a 119-112 triumph over the Los Angeles Lakers but blew a 20-point lead late in the third quarter and fell behind before rallying down the stretch. "A win is a win, no matter how it is," Davis told reporters. "That's stuff that we can look at on film and try to correct."

                    TV:
10 p.m. ET, NBATV, FSN New Orleans, NBCSN Northwest (Portland)

ABOUT THE PELICANS (1-2): New Orleans signed veteran point guard Jameer Nelson on Sunday and he played against the Lakers later that night and contributed five points and five assists in 24 minutes. The Pelicans will be without starter Rajon Rondo (core muscle surgery) for at least another month and the 35-year-old Nelson may soon find himself in the starting lineup alongside Jrue Holiday. "There is nothing on the court that is going to startle or scare me," Nelson told reporters Monday after his first practice with the team. "Anything is possible. You can't really put your finger on what's going to happen, why it's happening, when it's going to happen. Just be ready."

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (2-1): Power forward Noah Vonleh is progressing from a shoulder injury suffered a month ago and is about seven to 10 days away from returning to action. Vonleh, who averaged 4.4 points and 5.2 rebounds last season, has picked up the intensity of his rehab workouts, including weight training to strengthen the shoulder. "I'm feeling great," Vonleh told reporters on Monday. "Depending on how this week goes, I'm looking to be cleared for a full-go by the Utah game (on Nov. 1)."

                    BUZZER BEATERS

                    1. The Pelicans went 3-1 against the Trail Blazers last season.

                    2. McCollum is averaging 27 points and made 6-of-10 3-pointers in two games - he missed the opener due to a suspension.

                    3. New Orleans SG E'Twaun Moore scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting against the Lakers two nights after being scoreless on five missed shots against the Golden State Warriors.

PREDICTION: Trail Blazers 121, Pelicans 114

                        Preview: Jazz at Clippers

                        Gracenote
                        Oct 24, 2017

The Utah Jazz defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in a seven-game playoff series last season but both teams saw a star player leave as they meet for the first time this season on Tuesday in Salt Lake City. Clippers point guard Chris Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets after the first-round series loss while Jazz small forward Gordon Hayward departed as a free agent to sign with the Boston Celtics.

Los Angeles has turned things over to Blake Griffin and the power forward scored 29 points in each of his team's first two games while collecting an average of 10 rebounds. "The ball just moves and our trust is really high on this team," Griffin told reporters. "I think it's something I have said over and over since the start of training camp: Everybody trusts the next pass, they trust the next defender is going to be there for them and I think when your trust is high it masks some of that newness that our team has." Utah figures to rely more on center Rudy Gobert, who posted three consecutive double-doubles to open the season after recording 58 last season. Four players average between 14 and 15 points for the Jazz, including new point guard Ricky Rubio (14.7 points, 8.3 assists).

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah), Prime Ticket (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE JAZZ (2-1): Veteran Joe Ingles has been the recipient of extra playing time due to the departure of Hayward and he is averaging 14.7 points while making 12-of-19 3-point shot attempts. The 30-year-old Australian averaged 7.1 points as a reserve last season and has made at least three 3-pointers in each game, including five in Saturday's 96-87 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. "I got a couple good looks early and just wanted to stay aggressive," Ingles told reporters. "Obviously, I'm shooting the ball every day in practice and feel like I'm in a pretty good groove. Just trying to take good looks and it's working."

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (2-0): New starting point guard Milos Teodosic suffered a plantar fascia injury in his left foot during Saturday's win over the Phoenix Suns and will be sidelined indefinitely. The 30-year-old Serbian was a six-time All-EuroLeague selection, and tough-nosed Patrick Beverley (12.5 points, 3.5 steals) will pick up some of the ball-handling duties while Austin Rivers will move into the starting lineup. "Am I going to say will he be missed? Of course. Hell, yeah," Beverley said of Teodosic after Monday's practice. "He’s one of our best playmakers on the basketball court. Do other people have to step up, including myself? Of course."

                        BUZZER BEATERS

                        1. The Clippers have won 18 of the past 20 regular-season meetings.

                        2. Los Angeles SF Danilo Gallinari (11.5 average) is just 7-of-27 shooting in his first two games with the team.

                        3. Utah SG Rodney Hood (calf) is listed as questionable after missing the previous game.

Flames at Predators 10/24/17 - NHL Picks & Predictions

Latest Odds: NAS -140 Total 5.5

The Flames offense has to come back to life if the team is going to win. The Flames offense started off really well early on in the season, but has since fallen back to reality as the team has lost quite a few games as of late.

The Flames offense is getting 2.5 goals a game. However, the defense has been giving up 2.9 goals a game, which cannot really be faulted to Smith in the net as he has been playing great hockey this season.

The Predators offense has not hit stride yet this season either. However, the Predators offense and defense are quite a bit better aligned when it comes to the number of goals allowed versus the number of goals scored if that is possible.

Yes, it is possible. The Predators offense is being able to find the back of the net 2.6 times a game. However, the defense is doing the exact same as it is giving up only 2.6 goals a game.

                              Recent Betting Trends:
Flames are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. Western Conference.
Predators are 4-0 in their last 4 Tuesday games.
Over is 2-0-2 in Flames last 4 vs. Central.
Under is 4-1 in Predators last 5 home games.

Free Betting Pick: Nashville Predators -140

The Predators offense is only a .1 goal better and the defense is .3 goals better than the Flames. This may seem like a small number, but for the Predators it is a huge number. The Predators will win this game by a 3-2 score.
