When: 8:00 PM ET, Saturday, November 4, 2017
Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida

          Preview: Virginia Tech at Miami
          Gracenote
          Nov 1, 2017

Fresh off a 24-3 rout of Duke, No. 13 Virginia Tech heads to Miami for a primetime battle Saturday with the sixth-ranked Hurricanes, who squeaked past North Carolina 24-19 to remain the ACC's only undefeated team. In the first meeting between a pair of ranked Virginia Tech and Miami squads since 2010, the winner sits in the ACC Coastal Division driver's seat.

With 12 straight victories dating back to last November, Miami has the FBS's longest current winning streak, but the Hurricanes -- ranked 10th in the initial College Football Playoff rankings released this week -- have hardly dominated their recent less-than-stellar competition, beating Florida State, Georgia Tech, Syracuse and North Carolina by a combined 18 points. "People are saying we're barely winning," Miami tight end Christopher Herndon IV told reporters, "but to us, it means a lot because we know how hard we've been working and we didn't give up, not once so it means a lot to all of us. All we can say is that we're fighting to the end and we're not giving up. We're giving our all each and every weekend." The Hurricanes would gain a large measure of respect and move a step closer to claiming a spot in their first ACC championship game if they can beat the defending ACC Coastal Division champion Hokies, who have won three straight since a loss to Clemson by a combined 106-20 score and have held an opponent to 10 or fewer points five times this season. The Hokies are no strangers to the pressure as no team has taken home more ACC Coastal Division (six) and ACC crowns (four) since 2004 while the Hurricanes are still seeking their first in that stretch.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ABC. LINE: Virginia Tech -2.5

ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH (7-1, 3-1 ACC): As usual, defense is the name of the game for the Hokies, whose 'Lunch Pail Defense' continues to shut down opponents weekly, ranking second in the nation in scoring defense (11.5 points per game), third in third-down conversion defense (24.0 percent) and sixth in first downs allowed (111). Freshman quarterback Josh Jackson passed for 200 yards -- his seventh 200-yard outing of the season -- and a touchdown against Duke last week and now owns team frosh records with 2,032 yards passing and 17 touchdowns for the season, breaking Michael Vick's 1999 marks of 1,840 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Hokies have gotten it done on the ground with a stable of backs as the team has rushed for at least 180 yards in five games -- almost the same amount as Miami's run defense is allowing (179.7) -- but no running back has rushed for 100 yards in a game.

ABOUT MIAMI (7-0, 5-0): Malik Rosier threw for a career-high 356 yards with three touchdowns last Saturday but the Hurricanes scored their first touchdown with only 1:58 left in the first half against a North Carolina team that was dismantled by Virginia Tech 59-7 the prior week. There were far too many mistakes and breakdowns all afternoon and offensive coordinator Thomas Brown was particularly displeased, calling it "the worst performance we had this entire year. Maybe the worst one we've had since we've been at Miami. (There was) a lack of focus, a lack of execution. ... It was embarrassing to see. It was embarrassing to be a part of, coaching-wise." Rosier hurt his shoulder but is expected to be ready and he will need to be at his best, especially since an already-struggling ground game -- held to a season-low 59 yards rushing against North Carolina and 136 the previous week against Syracuse -- is facing the ACC's top rushing defense (110.8).

          EXTRA POINTS

          1. These former Big East rivals have played 13 times since they joined the ACC, with the Hokies, who are seeking back-to-back wins in the series for the first time since winning three in a row from 2009-11, owning an 8-5 edge.

          2. The Hurricanes are 5-0 in ACC play for the first time in program history.

          3. Hokies senior WR Cam Phillips holds the school record with 35 consecutive games with a reception and he became Virginia Tech's all-time leader in catches last week (216), passing Isaiah Ford (210 from 2014-16).

PREDICTION: Virginia Tech 23, Miami 16

When: 8:00 PM ET, Saturday, November 4, 2017
              Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

              Preview: LSU at Alabama
              Gracenote
              Nov 1, 2017

Alabama continues to be the top-ranked team in the country but the Crimson Tide didn't rate that way in the initial College Football Playoff rankings as they enter Saturday's SEC home game against No. 19 LSU. Alabama is rolling over opponents by an average of 33.3 points but was just No. 2 in the CFP poll released Tuesday, trailing conference mate Georgia.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban has been looking for motivation for his players but the poll results combined with the arrival of November should create plenty of incentive. "This is obviously the most challenging part of our season," Saban said at a press conference. "We need everybody's energy and everybody's focus and intensity to prepare for the games, this game in particular. This part of the season really defines who you are, defines you as a team, and creates a total identity for the team that you are." The Tigers are hoping to post a season-defining victory and junior running back Derrius Guice is coming off a 276-yard rushing effort against Ole Miss in LSU's most recent game. "Violence. Violence. He runs the ball like Warren Sapp played defensive line," LSU coach Ed Orgeron said of Guice's running style. "He runs it violently. Will run over you. Will run around you. He is quick, has great vision. Rarely ever fumbles and is tough. The more he gets hit, the more he gets going."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, CBS. LINE: Alabama -21

ABOUT LSU (6-2, 3-1 SEC): Guice, who has rushed for 711 yards and six touchdowns, has topped 250 yards three times during his stellar career and appears to be back in top form after an injury curtailed his effectiveness earlier this season. Senior quarterback Danny Etling has been efficient with nine touchdowns against one interception while big-play senior wideout DJ Chark averages 24.3 yards per reception and has returned two punts for touchdowns. Sophomore linebacker Devin White has been superb with 80 tackles, including a team-best 7.5 for losses, while redshirt freshman cornerback Andraez Williams has a team-leading three interceptions.

ABOUT ALABAMA (8-0, 5-0): Junior safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (35 tackles, one interception) continues to be the face of a strong defense that leads the nation in scoring defense (9.8 points per game), total defense (236 yards per game) and rushing defense (66.4) while ranking 10th in passing defense (169.6). Senior cornerback Levi Wallace and sophomore linebacker Mack Wilson share the club interception lead with three apiece while sophomore defensive end Raekwon Davis owns a team-best 5.5 sacks. Sophomore quarterback Jalen Hurts has thrown nine touchdown passes against one interception while also rushing for 572 yards and six scores.

              EXTRA POINTS

              1. Alabama has won the past six meetings, including a 10-0 victory last season.

              2. Tigers senior LT KJ Malone -- the son of basketball Hall of Famer Karl Malone -- is questionable after missing the previous two games with a knee injury.

              3. Crimson Tide junior WR Calvin Ridley (41 receptions, 523 yards) has caught at least one pass in 38 consecutive games, the third-best streak nationally.

              PREDICTION: Alabama 26, LSU 9

Looking for its third win over a top-25 opponent in five games, Arizona State hit a sizable speed-bump last week in falling to visiting USC 48-17. Now the Sun Devils will try to regroup when they host Colorado on Saturday night to cap their annual Salute to Service week.

Arizona State entered the USC game with three wins in its previous four outings, beating Oregon (37-35), defending Pac-12-champion Washington (13-7) and Utah (30-10), but was gashed by the Trojans for 607 total yards, including 341 on the ground. “I feel good about our team, I feel good about the young men, the character on our team and the discipline that we have,” Sun Devils coach Todd Graham said at his weekly Monday news conference. “We just have to push restart and go to the next week.” Colorado, meanwhile, entered last weekend having dropped four of its previous five but rebounded with one of its best all-around games of the season in thrashing visiting California 44-28 and now is seeking to maintain the momentum with only three regular-season contests remaining. “We don’t have that many games left – only three guaranteed, and we want to help our seniors get to that bowl game,” Buffaloes linebacker Rick Gamboa said at the team’s weekly news conference Tuesday. “That sense of urgency is increasing more and more as we get closer to Saturday.”

TV: 9 p.m. ET, Pac-12 Network. LINE: Arizona State -4.5

ABOUT COLORADO (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12): A week after getting benched in a 28-0 loss at Washington State, sophomore quarterback Steven Montez bounced back with his best outing of the season, throwing for 347 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 17 yards and another score against Cal. Montez also continues to get plenty of help from running back Phillip Lindsay, the conference’s third-leading rusher (139.3 yards per game), who amassed 184 total yards and has rushed for at least 161 yards in three of his last four outings. Gamboa (7.2 tackles) and fellow linebacker Drew Lewis (7.4) lead a Colorado defense which is surrendering the fifth-fewest points in the conference at 25 per game.

ABOUT ARIZONA STATE (4-4, 3-2): Quarterback Manny Wilkins threw for 259 yards and a TD and added another score on the ground against USC and ranks sixth in the conference in total offense with 268.4 yards per outing. The Sun Devils, though, were missing second-leading rusher Kalen Ballage (54.0 yards) who sat out with a virus but should be able to return Saturday to resume his potent 1-2 punch with fellow senior Demario Richard (54.1 rushing yards). Linebacker Christian Sam continues to pace the Pac-12 in tackles (10.4) and is one of the few bright spots on a defense which is surrendering the third-most points (30.9) and rushing yards (186.9) in the conference.

                  EXTRA POINTS

                  1. Arizona State has won seven of eight all-time against Colorado, but the Buffaloes broke through last season with a 40-16 romp in Boulder.

                  2. Montez ranks fifth in the Pac-12 in passing efficiency (144.6) and has gone 134 pass attempts without throwing an interception.

                  3. Sun Devils sophomore WR N’Keal Harry ranks second in the Pac-12 with 89.1 receiving yards per game.

Washington halted a 12-game losing streak to Oregon in convincing fashion last season and the No. 12 Huskies find themselves in a must-win position when they host the Ducks on Saturday. Washington, which rolled to a 70-21 victory over the Ducks in 2016, is also No. 12 in the first College Football Playoff rankings and a second loss will eliminate the squad from contention.

Oregon first-year coach Willie Taggart has reminded his players of the beating they endured last season to make sure they are at a peak motivation level. "I'm sure any competitor out there wouldn't forget what happened," Taggart said at a press conference. "Our job this week is to make sure we're at our best this week, to see to it that what happened last year doesn't happen again." The Huskies saw their hopes of returning to the CFP take a major hit when they lost to Arizona State on Oct. 14 but the players maintain they control their fate, not a committee of people dressed in suits and ties. "If we play to our level, if we do what we know how to do, it doesn't matter who we play against, or what the quarterback is, or what record they have," sophomore cornerback Austin Joyner said. "It doesn't matter as long as we handle business how we can."

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1. LINE: Washington -17.5

ABOUT OREGON (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12): Senior running back Royce Freeman (1,096 yards, 10 touchdowns) has reached 1,000 yards for the third time in his stellar career and he will look to keep his success going against a Washington run defense that ranks second nationally at 71.6 yards per game. Rumors persist that sophomore quarterback Justin Herbert (nine touchdowns, two interceptions) could return from a fractured collarbone, but if not, freshman quarterback Braxton Burmeister (two touchdowns, five interceptions) will make his fifth consecutive start. Sophomore linebacker Troy Dye is the standout of the defense with 80 tackles, including five games with 10 or more stops, while junior defensive end Jalen Jelks has a team-best 12.5 tackles for loss, including a team-high six sacks.

ABOUT WASHINGTON (7-1, 4-1): Junior quarterback Jake Browning passed for a season-low 98 yards against UCLA last Saturday and has gone two weeks without throwing a scoring pass but he accounted for eight touchdowns (six passing, two rushing) and passed for 304 yards against the Ducks last year. Junior running back Myles Gaskin (795 yards) has topped 100 yards in three of the past five games and will look to post another strong outing against an Oregon rushing defense that ranks 15th in the nation against the run (115.9). Sophomore cornerback Myles Bryant (38 tackles) is performing well with the team down two starting corners, while junior inside linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven has a team-leading 49 tackles.

                      EXTRA POINTS

                      1. Oregon has won 17 of the past 22 meetings.

                      2. The Ducks rank 98th nationally in passing yards allowed at 253.7 per game.

                      3. Huskies freshman TE Hunter Bryant (22 receptions, 331 yards) is out indefinitely with a leg injury.
