Two teams moving in opposite directions meet on Monday, when the struggling Florida Panthers begin a quick two-game road trip against the Metropolitan Division-leading New Jersey Devils. The Panthers have lost three of their last four games and are just two points ahead of last-place Buffalo in the Eastern Conference, while the Devils have earned points in four straight contests (3-0-1) after posting a 4-3 overtime win at Detroit on Saturday.

Florida appeared to be starting something with three wins in four games during the middle of the month but has scored a total of four goals in its last four contests after a 4-1 home setback against Chicago on Saturday. “We got to start being more consistent, night in and night out,” Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad told the Sun Sentinel. “We all have to, if somebody’s not doing it, we got to get on that guy or help pick them up.” New Jersey has yet to lose back-to-back games in regulation this season and has earned at least one point in seven of its last eight contests (5-1-2), with a bevy of players contributing in the scoring column. “It’s great, keep it going,” Devils center Brian Boyle, who has recorded a goal in each of his last two games, told reporters. “Good teams have four lines that can make plays.”

ABOUT THE PANTHERS (8-12-2): Fourth-leading scorer Evgenii Dadonov suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday’s loss and is questionable, while veteran Radim Vrbata (face) likely will miss his fourth straight game. Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau share the team lead in scoring with 22 points apiece while Aleksander Barkov is right behind them with 21. Jared McCann, who currently is centering the third line, tallied on Saturday for his first goal in four games since returning from injured reserve.

ABOUT THE DEVILS (14-5-4): Brian Gibbons, who spent the last two seasons in the minors, has scored a team-leading 11 goals after netting the game-winner on Saturday. “He’s got a knack for scoring some big goals for us,” center Travis Zajac told reporters. “He’s using his speed. He’s creating turnovers and chances off of that. Obviously, he’s been around a long time. For him to get a chance to be up here and contribute, it’s great to see.” Taylor Hall tops the team in scoring with 26 points, with five coming in his last two games.

Preview: Flyers at Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins ended a losing streak in their previous contest and the Philadelphia Flyers look to do the same when they visit their Metropolitan Division rivals on Monday. Pittsburgh is coming off a 5-2 triumph over Tampa Bay on Saturday that halted its three-game slide and improved it to 7-2-1 at home.

Phil Kessel scored two goals and set up two others in the victory, giving him seven points in his last three contests and a team-leading 31 on the season. Philadelphia is in the midst of a skid that reached seven games (0-3-4) with Friday's 5-4 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. The Flyers haven't won since topping Chicago 3-1 on Nov. 9 and are 0-1-2 on the road since blanking St. Louis 2-0 a week earlier. Jakub Voracek leads Philadelphia with 29 points and is riding a five-game streak during which he has collected three goals and five assists.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (8-9-6): Philadelphia could get some help on the blue line Monday as Andrew MacDonald appears ready to return from a lower-body injury. "I think at this point, it's up to the people above me to make those decisions. ... It feels good and I'm ready to move forward." Carey Price has made his triumphant return to the lineup, and the Montreal Canadiens hope the presence of the former Hart Trophy-winning goaltender can spark a streak when they host the red-hot Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday. Price turned aside 36 shots in a 3-0 victory over Buffalo on Saturday after missing 10 contests with a lower-body injury, ending Montreal’s five-game losing streak.

“He’s one of the best players in the league, and to have a player like that is always a boost, not just on the ice, but in the locker room,” Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk told reporters regarding Price. “He’s so focused and calm, and it’s great to see him back.” Montreal will need another big effort from Price against the Blue Jackets, who have won six straight contests - with some outstanding goaltending of their own - after knocking off Ottawa 5-2 on Friday. Sergei Bobrovsky, who leads the league in goals-against average (1.91) and save percentage (.936), has allowed a total of six goals during the winning streak - which includes a 2-1 overtime triumph at Montreal on Nov. 14. The Blue Jackets are 7-3-1 on the road - including three consecutive victories - and have earned at least one point in six straight meetings with the Canadiens (5-0-1).

That’s my game. The Minnesota Wild realize they have ground to make up in the Central Division standings, and also know they cannot afford to fall behind by three goals in the first period. The Wild travel to face division rival Winnipeg on Monday looking for a faster start against the Jets than what happened Saturday at division-leader St. Louis, when the Blues put three past Devan Dubnyk in the opening 20 minutes of a 6-3 Minnesota loss.

“When you try to chase the game, it’s really difficult,” Minnesota coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters afterward. “When you make a mistake, you have to press and they take advantage of it, and it’s usually in the net.” The Jets dropped the finale of a four-game road trip Saturday at San Jose, falling 4-0 in just their sixth regulation loss of the season. “We certainly didn’t make the most of the opportunities that we had,” Jets coach Paul Maurice told the media afterward. Winnipeg opened the trip with a loss to division rival Nashville on Monday, its only defeat against Central competition this season.

The Chicago Blackhawks return home from a successful three-game road trip Monday and look to extend their point streak to five games when they host the Anaheim Ducks. Chicago concluded its trek with a 2-0-1 record after skating to a 4-1 victory at Florida on Saturday.

Captain Jonathan Toews scored a goal and set up two others for the Blackhawks, who improved to 3-0-1 in their last four overall contests. Anaheim hopes to put an end to its three-game slide (0-2-1) as it continues a six-game road trip. The Ducks have been held to one goal in each of its last two contests, including Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss at Los Angeles in the opener of their trek. Anaheim will be venturing out of California for the first time since Oct. 29 after going 4-5-3 during its string in the Golden State.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (10-9-4): Anaheim will be without its leading scorer for the entire road trip as Rickard Rakell, who missed Saturday's contest due to an upper-body injury, did not travel with the team. The 24-year-old Swede, who tops the Ducks in both goals (eight) and points (18), was kept off the scoresheet in each of his last two games after notching at least one point in seven of his previous eight contests. Corey Perry recorded an assist versus Los Angeles for his first point in three games after registering two in three consecutive contests and four of his previous five.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (11-8-3): Patrick Kane also tallied against the Panthers, raising his team-leading point total to 22. The 29-year-old is riding a six-game point streak during which he has registered four goals and four assists. Toews' three-point effort on Saturday was his first of the season and first multi-point performance since he notched a pair of assists at Arizona on Oct. 21.
