I'm recommending a play on the New Orleans Pelicans minus the points on Wednesday. New Orleans is coming off a 15 point loss at Golden State, but they've had a few days off to ready themselves in an attempt to exact revenge for an early November home loss. The Pelicans had a horrible first half in the defeat and couldn't overcome the deficit. They've won four of their last five at home though, and catch the Timberwolves in a tough spot. Minnesota lost a grueling battle at home last night to Washington and tonight marks their third game in four nights and fourth in six nights. Minnesota has failed to cover any of their last six games, while the Pelicans have covered seven of the last nine meetings in the Big Easy. New Orleans finally has Rajon Rondo back on the floor and the insertion of E'Twaun Moore has been a positive. This will be a different looking team than Minnesota saw four weeks ago, thanks to Rondo's presence. We'll back the home team tonight. Tonight I'm making a business move with Northern Iowa +1 against visiting UNLV. Strictly business.

There will be some days where there is no analysis, no rhyme or reason, strictly business. Tonight is one of those nights.

Northern Iowa opened as a 2-point favorite. By last night, around 8 pm pacific, UNLV moved to a 1-point chalk. As of 9 am pacific today, the line was still the same with random pick'ems around.

The business move is this: if a stock price closes $4 one day, and opens the next at $1, you buy it. End of story. You take the value. And that's all I'm doing here.

I see Northern Iowa laying chalk and all of a sudden getting points from a UNLV team that is still unproven, albeit an impressive win over Utah counts for something. And now the Runnin' Rebels have their bags packed for their first true road game.

I'm not buying into the hype, yet. No Kool Aid for me.

Let's keep this 20-11 win streak rolling with a free winner in the NBA, as I am playing the home chalk with the San Antonio Spurs over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Things are a mess with the Grizzlies, as they begin life with a new coach, ahem, an interim head coach, to get the team back on track.

To recap:

Memphis lost at home to the Brooklyn Nets 98-88 on Monday.
David Fizdale benched center Marc Gasol, the team's leading scorer and rebounder.
Fizdale was fired, and J.B. Bickerstaff was named the interim head coach.

Just give me the Spurs, who just blasted the Dallas Mavericks, 115-98, on Monday.

The Spurs are 9-2 at home, while the Grizzlies are 3-5 on the road. San Antonio has also covered six of their last eight at the Alamo, while Memphis is mired in a 3-13 ATS skid.

They will clearly be the fresher, more prepared team tonight over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves are coming off an 89-92 home loss to the Washington Wizards last night. They will be playing the 2nd of a back-to-back and their 7th game in 11 days. They haven’t had more than one day off since November 9th and 10th. They are a tired team right now, which is why they have gone 0-5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. I think their ATS struggles continue in this brutal situation here tonight against rested New Orleans. Give me the Pelicans.

Great price on New York here at home against the Heat on Wednesday. The Knicks have lost 3 straight, which is why we are getting value here. All 3 losses came without starting center Ernez Kanter, they also played one of those games without Porzingis, who returned for their last game against Portland. Kanter is going to be back in the lineup tonight and I look for New York to get back to their winning ways on their home court, where they are 9-4 SU and 10-3 ATS on the season.
The other big key here is that the Knicks are catching Miami in a bad spot. The Heat will be playing their 4th straight on the road in a span of just 6 days. The Heat are also on no rest, as they played last night in Cleveland, where they were clearly lacking energy early, as they allowed the Cavs to put up 75 points in the 1st half. I think we see Miami struggle here to match the intensity of the Knicks, who are going to be desperate for a win after losing 3 straight and playing with fresh legs, as this is just their 2nd game in the last 4 days. Give me the Knicks +2!

The Indiana Pacers have been one of the most underrated teams in the NBA up to this point. They have gone 12-9 SU & 13-8 ATS in their 21 games, including 6-5 SU & 7-4 ATS on the road this season.
The offense is clicking right now behind Victor Oladipo and company. The Pacers are scoring 108.9 points per game on 48% shooting, including 40.9% from 3-point range. They are scoring 110.2 points per game on 49% shooting and 42% 3-pointers on the road. They have the firepower to keep up with the Rockets.
I think we are seeing the Rockets being overvalued tonight after winning five straight and 11 of their last 12 overall. We’ve seen that in their last two games they couldn’t cover the lofty 19-point spread against the Knicks and the 18-point spread against the Nets. The Pacers are better than both those teams and capable of hanging around here.
Houston is 4-16 ATS in non-conference home games over the past two seasons. The Rockets are 3-13 ATS in home games off a home win by 10 points or more over the last two years. The Pacers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. Houston is 6-14 ATS in its last 20 home games. Bet the Pacers Wednesday.
