        Race 1 - Claiming - 870y on the Dirt. Purse: $10000 Class Rating: 70

QUARTER HORSE 870Y, FOR ACCREDITED LA BRED THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD WHICH HAVE NEVER WON THREE RACES. THREE YEAR OLDS, 124 LBS.; OLDER, 126 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $10,000.

        RECOMMENDED CHOICES
        The Walker Group Picks

        # 3 LOVIN THAT SIZZLE 3/1

        # 6 DASHING WITH COURAGE 9/5

        # 7 AP SHINE ON ME 8/1

I think LOVIN THAT SIZZLE is a decent choice. Has to be given a chance as he drops to compete against this less demanding field. Has been racing in the most competitive company of the group as of late. Has to be carefully examined here on the basis of the figs in the speed realm alone. DASHING WITH COURAGE - Is worth looking at and may be a bet - strong Equibase Speed Figs (64 average) at today's distance and surface as of late. This handler has done very well lately with entries racing at this distance and surface. AP SHINE ON ME - She should have a good outing versus this less demanding field of horses. Fontenot makes a blinkers change (going off today), looking for positive results.

          RECOMMENDED CHOICES
          The Walker Group Picks

          # 1 R SECRET LIFE 9/5

          # 5 BLUE CHIP PROSPECT 7/2

          # 6 BURTON 9/2

I've got to go with R SECRET LIFE. Has formidable early lick and will most likely fare very well versus this group. Could provide positive dividends based on very strong recent speed figs with an average of 74. Has been racing solidly and has among the best speed in the race for today's distance. BLUE CHIP PROSPECT - Is a contender - given the 66 speed figure from his most recent race. BURTON - Have to examine solely on class, with some of the strongest class figures of this field. In this field, this one is prominent in earnings per start in dirt sprint events.

              Tampa Bay Downs - Race #8 - Post: 3:54pm - Claiming - 8.2 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,400 Class Rating: 74

              Rating: 4

              #6 PLEASE HUMOR ME (ML=7/2)

PLEASE HUMOR ME - Strong return on investment for this jock and trainer tandem.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #4 WING FIGHTER (ML=3/1), #5 PIRRADAZIS (ML=9/2), #1 SOBY JUNIOR (ML=5/1),

WING FIGHTER - Tough to put your dough on the win end of any racer that finishes second and third as regularly as this thoroughbred does. This less than sharp equine ran a pedestrian speed fig last time around the track. He shouldn't run much better and will likely get beat today running that rating. PIRRADAZIS - Hard to put any money on this gelding on the win end. Likes to finish in the money though. This animal hasn't been in the mix in either of his last couple of outings. SOBY JUNIOR - The fifth place finish in the last affair was not that great.

              STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #6 PLEASE HUMOR ME on the win end if we get at least 1/1 odds

                Woodbine - Race #7 - Post: 9:39pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,500 Class Rating: 78

                Rating: 4

                #1 FORESTER'S FORUM (ML=8/1)
                #2 RED CHILL (ML=4/1)
                #7 KABBA (ML=12/1)

FORESTER'S FORUM - Smith brings him back again. I recommend you stick with this strong gelding. Jock hops right back aboard after getting to know the fine animal by riding last out. That's always a helpful angle. RED CHILL - Using this jockey/trainer combination is a good decision. Horse has improved at least two speed figure points in last two races. I look for that to continue its positive trend right here in this race. KABBA - Really have to believe this beautiful animal is going to be on the money near the finish line.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 JUAN STORMY NIGHT (ML=3/1), #8 KISSOFFIRE (IRE) (ML=5/1), #5 LAKE MANITOU (ML=6/1),

JUAN STORMY NIGHT - I can't play this repeated non-winner. Gets the job done once in a while. KISSOFFIRE (IRE) - This vulnerable equine ran a somewhat easily forgotten rating last time around the track. He shouldn't show signs of improvement and will probably lose in today's event running that fig. LAKE MANITOU - This racer has no victories at Woodbine. The rating last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a likely underpriced contender.

                STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #1 FORESTER'S FORUM on the win end if we get at least 7/2 odds

                  Preview: Flames at Maple Leafs

                  Gracenote
                  Dec 5, 2017

After squandering a chance to exploit some bottom-rung teams at home, the Calgary Flames hit the road for a back-to-back beginning with Wednesday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flames surrendered 12 goals in dropping two games in a row to close out a 1-3-0 homestand that opened with a 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs on Nov. 28.

Calgary was lit up for seven goals by provincial rival Edmonton on Saturday before losing a 5-2 decision to reeling Philadelphia, which had dropped 10 in a row before Monday's victory. “Whenever you lose, especially two at home in big games and three of your last four at home, there’s frustration in your game and in the players,” said Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan. "We certainly didn’t have the homestand we wanted, so there’s frustration.” Toronto's bid for a three-game sweep of its three-game trek through Western Canada came up short when it surrendered two early goals in a 2-1 loss at Vancouver on Saturday night. "You spend the whole night giving away two points because you weren’t prepared," coach Mike Babcock said. "The schedule is set up the way it is, we have to do a better job, that’s all there is to it.”

                  TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, TVAS, NHL.TV

ABOUT THE FLAMES (14-12-1): Calgary's lone win on the four-game homestand was a 3-0 victory over Western Conference-worst Arizona, but it was outscored 16-8 in the three defeats. Forward Troy Brouwer, who ended a 32-game goalless drought dating to last season, said the team must deal with adversity better. "It seems like sometimes we get a little bit down on ourselves and maybe that's where us as leaders can do a little bit better job of making sure that guys stay up and stay excited and not get down on ourselves," Brouwer said.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (17-10-1): Goaltender Frederik Andersen has never lost to Calgary in regulation, improving to 6-0-1 after last week's victory despite a save percentage of .898. Center Tyler Bozak missed the final game of the road trip due to food poisoning but finally returned to practice Tuesday, although Babcock said there's a chance he could have William Nylander at center between James van Riemsdyk and Mitch Marner. "It’s something that … who knows?" Babock said. "If we got to use him, we will maybe try him there."

                  OVERTIME

                  1. Maple Leafs F Auston Matthews has been limited to an assist in three games versus Calgary.

                  2. Flames C Sam Bennett has two goals and four assists during a four-game point streak.

                  3. Toronto has killed 13 of 14 power plays over the past six games.

PREDICTION: Maple Leafs 4, Flames 3

                      Preview: Blackhawks at Capitals

                      Gracenote
                      Dec 5, 2017

Two perennial powers heading in opposite directions will collide on Wednesday night when the Washington Capitals host the Chicago Blackhawks. The Capitals are starting to hit their stride with five wins in their last six games, but the Blackhawks are battling to avoid the Central Division basement after dropping four in a row.

Captain Alex Ovechkin became the first player in the league to score 20 goals and in the process moved into 20th place on the all-time list with his 578th tally. "He's one of the best goal-scorers in the game and he knows where to put the puck," goaltender Philipp Grubauer said of Ovechkin, one of 11 players with 20 goals in each of his first 13 seasons. "He's dangerous and you can't leave him alone that many times." Washington's only loss in the past six games came at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings, who sent Chicago to its fourth consecutive defeat (0-2-2) with a 3-1 road victory on Sunday. The Blackhawks have struggled against the Capitals, losing six of their last seven overall and the past six visits to Washington, including a 6-0 drubbing in their last trip in January.

                      TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCSN

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (12-10-5): Backup netminder Anton Forsberg has one win in nine appearances but he deserved a better fate in back-to-back losses to Dallas and Los Angeles over the weekend while subbing for the injured Corey Crawford. Forsberg turned aside 54 of 57 shots in the two defeats but Chicago mustered a combined three goals in support of him. "He’s doing everything we need him to do in there," captain Jonathan Toews said. "We just need to support him, create some offense and find some ways to get some wins for him.”

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (16-11-1): Forward T.J. Oshie, who is third on the team in scoring, is expected to sit out Wednesday's contest, listed as "very doubtful" by coach Barry Trotz when his head hit the boards in what appeared to be an inadvertent hit by San Jose's Joe Thornton. Andre Burakovsky practiced for a second straight day but Trotz said his return from surgery on his broken thumb will likely be put off another game or two. However, forward Chandler Stephenson (upper body) is expected back in the lineup following a one-game absence.

                      OVERTIME

                      1. The Blackhawks are 1-for-17 on the power play over the past four games.

                      2. Ovechkin has eight goals and 13 points in 14 games against the Blackhawks.

                      3. Following Wednesday's game, Chicago plays three straight at home against the league's worst teams.

                      PREDICTION: Capitals 4, Blackhawks 2

                          Preview: Flyers at Oilers

                          Gracenote
                          Dec 5, 2017

Two teams desperately searching to build momentum face off on Wednesday night as the Philadelphia Flyers pay a visit to Rogers Place to tangle with reigning Hart Trophy recipient Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. The Flyers snapped a 10-game losing skid (0-5-5) with a 5-2 victory versus Calgary on Monday, two days after the Oilers recorded their third win in four outings by erupting for seven goals against the provincial-rival Flames.

Jakub Voracek posted his fourth three-point performance of the season by setting up three goals versus the Flames, increasing his team-leading assist total to 26 while giving him 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) in his past 13 games. The 28-year-old Czech drilled the Oilers by scoring a goal and setting up three others in a 6-5 win on Dec. 8, with his final assist going to Michael Raffl for the go-ahead goal with 1:29 left in the third period. McDavid leads Edmonton in goals (11), assists (21) and points (32), but was held off the scoresheet in his last encounter versus Philadelphia in a 2-1 setback at Wells Fargo Center on Oct. 21. The 20-year-old has taken advantage of a break in the Oilers' schedule to overcome an illness before returning to practice on Tuesday.

TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN Philadelphia, SN1 (Edmonton)

ABOUT THE FLYERS (9-11-7): Raffl fared well with new linemates Valtteri Filppula and Voracek, with the group combining to register six points (two goals, four assists) and a plus-8 rating against the Flames. The road has not been kind to the Ottawa Senators of late, but the club has been struggling regardless of where its games have taken place. Ottawa looks to turn things around Wednesday as it begins the California portion of its seven-game road trip against the Anaheim Ducks.

The Senators are 1-2-0 on their trek and have lost five of their last six away from home after being shut out 5-0 in Winnipeg on Sunday. The setback dropped Ottawa to 1-7-1 overall since completing a sweep of Colorado on Nov. 11 in Stockholm. Anaheim is beginning a three-game homestand after finishing a 1-2-3 road trip with three straight setbacks, including a 4-3 shootout loss in Vegas on Tuesday. Corey Perry has scored in back-to-back games after recording two goals in his previous 25 contests while Adam Henrique has notched an assist in each of his three games with the Ducks since being acquired from New Jersey on Thursday.

ABOUT THE SENATORS (9-10-6): Captain Erik Karlsson has been kept off the scoresheet in nine straight games after recording 17 points in his previous 10 contests. The 27-year-old Swedish defenseman has reached double digits in goals in each of his last six full seasons but has scored only one over his first 20 contests of 2017-18. Mark Stone, who leads the team in goals (14) and points (25), recorded a point in five consecutive games before Sunday's shutout loss.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (11-11-6): The injury-riddled team could receive a boost Wednesday as Jakob Silfverberg may return from an upper-body ailment that has sidelined him for three games. The 27-year-old Swede, who set career highs with 23 goals and 49 points last season, notched a tally and two assists in two contests prior to getting hurt. Silfverberg's next assist will be the 100th of his career while Andrew Cogliano, who has gone four games without a point, is one assist shy of 200 in the NHL.
