Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Brown told reporters that the team learned a great deal from their recent four-game losing skid, and now they are schooling the competition. Winners of a season-high seven in a row, the Kings look to complete a perfect three-game homestand on Saturday when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.

"In general, you learn more from losing than you do from winning. I said that about teams before we won (Stanley) Cups. We had to lose a lot to understand what it took to win," Brown said. The 33-year-old scored and set up a goal for the second time during his three-game point streak in Thursday's 4-3 triumph over Ottawa. While Los Angeles is relishing winning, Carolina has headed in the other direction with losses in six of its last eight contests overall and four straight on the road, including the first two of its season-high six-game trek. "We just need to create more opportunities," said left wing Sebastian Aho, who scored twice within a five-minute span of the first period Thursday in a 5-4 overtime setback at San Jose. "We have to play better. We need to go back to work and play our game for 60 minutes."

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (11-10-6): Jeff Skinner scored his second goal in four outings on Thursday and has nine points (four goals, five assists) in his last 13 games. Yet, Elon faced Duke in one of three road matchups along with Furman and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Against Wisconsin-Milwaukee they lost by a point 72-71, and held a halftime lead over Furman.

The spotlight loss for UNC-Greenboro is a head-scratcher against Presbyterian. They'll need to showcase focus from the onset against an Elon team that will be aiming to get the road monkey off their backs.

Team to Beware - Memphis Tigers

A program that has endured a rough transition has been the Memphis Tigers. The loss of Josh Pastner to Georgia Tech took a critical toll on the program last season.

Record-wise one cannot see the indication of a struggling program. At 5-2 straight up they've been able to mask the non box score glaring issues.

Yet, in their last three wins they've won by a combined five points. At halftime of both of their latest wins they were down by nine points against Samford and Mercer.

Facing a Bryant team that is 1-7 could finally cave the issues Memphis has been able to overcome. Another sloppy start and look for a team that's looking for confidence to pounce on the opportunity.

This Week vs. Central Connecticut Blue Devils

Teams from the MAC are use to nationwide exposure as part of ESPN3's consistent coverage of every game. Yet, a streamed game available versus a network televised game are vastly different.

Northern Illinois is coming off a 94-80 loss in a televised game against Iowa State. In the contest Northern Illinois guard Eugene German showed that he can play to the caliber of an elite rated guard. He scored 28 points in an array of ways and had the Huskies up two at halftime. His twenty points per game average may entice bettors Saturday against Central Connecticut State to glance at the total.

Yet Central Connecticut State is riding a five-game win streak and will already be coming off a Wednesday matchup in Chicago against DePaul. They'll be tested and ready to clamp down defensively.

Preview: Wizards at Clippers


The Washington Wizards and the Los Angeles Clippers are both missing star players, one team just happens to be dealing with the situation a little better. The Wizards, who are without All-Star point guard John Wall, will go for their third straight win when they visit the Clippers on Saturday.

Wall sat out the last seven games and is expected to miss at least the last two games of the current road trip, but Washington is doing just fine of late while leaning on shooting guard Bradley Beal. The Wizards were embarrassed 116-69 in the opener of the road trip at Utah on Monday before encouraging Beal to be more aggressive offensively and were rewarded with a 106-92 win at Portland on Tuesday before easing past the Phoenix Suns 109-99 on Thursday. The Clippers are without All-Star power forward Blake Griffin (knee) for the next two months and fell to 0-4 since his injury when they dropped a 113-107 decision at home to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Griffin was leading the team in scoring (23.6 points) and assists (5.1) while adding 7.9 rebounds and Los Angeles is still trying to figure out its rotations without him in the lineup.

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (14-11): Beal exploded for a career-high 51 points in the win at Portland and followed that up by dominating a smaller Phoenix backcourt and finishing with 34 points on 13-of-22 shooting. "A lot of teams take away my 3-ball," Beal told reporters. "But I don't force it. I take what the defense gives me. They put (5-10 point guard Tyler) Ulis on me a few times and I feel like I can shoot right over him, nothing against him. I feel like I can take advantage of that matchup." Beal was held to an average of 12.5 points in four games before totaling 85 in the last two contests.

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (8-15): Los Angeles got one player back from injury on Wednesday when Danilo Gallinari (glute) returned from a 13-game absence. Gallinari, who struggled to seven points on 2-of-13 shooting in 26 minutes, reentered the starting lineup at his natural small forward spot but will be expected to shoulder some of Griffin's power forward duties. "He didn't have his legs yet," Clippers coach Doc Rivers told reporters of Gallinari. "I don't know how good he'll be next game. It's going to take him a couple of games. ... Having Gallo back will be huge."
