Preview: Rockets at Trail Blazers

The Houston Rockets might be the best team in the NBA right now as they blow past every opponent the schedule throws in front of them. The Rockets are winners of eight in a row -- all by double digits -- and will try to make it nine straight when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers in the finale of a three-game trip on Saturday.

Houston is undefeated since the return of point guard Chris Paul, who came within a rebound of a triple-double in a 112-101 victory at Utah on Thursday, which marked the closest margin of the last eight games. Paul is averaging 10.1 assists over the last eight games and handed out 13 in Thursday's triumph while James Harden scored 29 points to lead the offense. The Portland Trail Blazers have their own star backcourt in Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum but can't seem to find their way into the win column quite as consistently and are losers of three in a row -- all at home. "I don't think we're playing well," Portland coach Terry Stotts told reporters after a 106-92 loss to the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. "I think we've shown that we can play better with basically the same group of people last year. We know we can play better."

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (19-4): Power forward Ryan Anderson was questionable on Thursday due to a back tightness but ended up playing and scored 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Anderson did most of his damage off feeds from Paul and is thriving with Paul and Harden around to draw the defense. "That's why I'm here -- to shoot the ball around guys that are great playmakers," Anderson told ESPN.com. "Having (Paul) here has just opened up the court so much more for me and all of our shooting ability. For me, it's just easier looks."

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (13-11): Lillard scored 30 points in Tuesday's loss to the Wizards but McCollum was held to 14 and Portland shot 41 percent from the floor in falling to 7-7 at home. "Every year at some point adversity is going to hit and I feel like this is the start of a little bit of that adversity for us," Lillard told reporters. "We've just got to keep playing. We've got to address what we're not doing good enough right now, so it doesn't keep going in this direction." McCollum is shooting 34.2 percent from the floor over the last four games, including 5-of-20 from 3-point range.

They are coming off a 107-104 upset win in Philadelphia as 8.5-point dogs and I expect them to pull off the upset here tonight over the Hornets as well. I had my eye on the Lakers in this matchup after they pulled out that big road win at Philadelphia on Thursday. That's the kind of win that can get a team going. More than anything, I'm not a big fan of this Hornets team. Charlotte is just 1-6 in their last 7 and are in a brutal spot here playing on no rest after an overtime game last night, where they lost to a Bulls team that's arguably the worst team in the league. With Kaminsky and Zeller both out with injuries and Jeremy Lamb questionable with a ankle injury, I just don't think Charlotte will have enough gas in the tank to be competitive here. Note that all 5 starters logged at least 33 minutes, with 4 of the 5 racking up at least 42. I'll take the points, but I really like LA to win here outright.

The Chicago Bulls are in a very difficult situation here. They just ended their 10-game losing streak with a 119-111 (OT) victory at Charlotte. Look for them to take a sigh of relief now and relax after ending that skid.
But the Bulls will also be fatigued, obviously. They will now be playing the 2nd of a back-to-back and their 3rd game in 4 days. Robin Lopez played 43 minutes, Kris Dunn 4, Justin Holiday 39, Lauri Markkanen 34 and David Nwaba 32 last night. They aren’t going to have much left in the tank tonight, especially after the long flight from Charlotte back to Chicago.
Meanwhile, the Knicks come in well-rested and ready to go. They have had two days off since a 99-88 home win over Memphis on Wednesday. They just recently got a healthy Kristaps Porzingis and Enes Kanter back in the lineup. They’ll be looking to exploit the tired Bulls here Saturday night.
The Knicks simply own the Bulls, going 5-0 SU & 5-0 ATS IN the last five meetings, winning all five games by 8 points or more. New York is 7-2 ATS in its last nine vs. a team with a losing record. The Knicks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a win of more than 10 points. Bet the Knicks Saturday.
