UCLA had to find victory in their final game of the season to become bowl-eligible (6-6 on the season) and did this is a pedestrian Pac-12. Yes, the 'Cats had to win four of their final five games without their starting quarterback to give legendary coach Snyder one last game on the sideline with his players but closed the season with a win over Iowa State (the only team to defeat the Oklahoma Sooners this season), and at Oklahoma State, both ranked at the time KSU upended their league foes.
While Wildcats' quarterback Ertz isn't playing due to injury KSU has capable quarterbacks to fill his role. The Bruins will not have either future NFL signal-caller Josh Rosen nor their head coach Jim Mora in today's contest. Mora was fired after a 5-6 start.
There isn't anything complicated about today's game plan for Snyder. His offensive game plan will be to run the football. K-State running backs Alex Barnes, Justin Silmon and Dalvin Warmack are all in line for big ground games tonight. As well, backup quarterback Skylar Thompson is another threat to run the football. It isn't a stretch to believe that Snyder will go out in style, as he typically does, and K-State could have a season high for rushing yards tonight against UCLA. Topping 300 yards won't be a surprise.
How bad as UCLA been at containing the oppositions run this season? They have allowed nearly 300 yards per game on the ground. K-State’s ground-oriented offense averaged nearly 200 rushing yards per game this season.
In the college ranks this year UCLA ranked 129th out of 130 teams versus the run.
This is a finesse Bruins team without their best player, QB Rosen, against a physical offense and defensive front of the Wildcats under the direction of Bill Snyder. It is, in a nutshell, a complete mismatch without the Bruins being able to attack the Cats' secondary, which they can't without Rosen.
