NHL Betting Cheat Sheet and Odds: Sharks pushing for first in the Pacific
    Monty Andrews

The San Jose Sharks enter the week as the hottest team in the league, having won seven consecutive games to move to within six points of the Vegas Golden Knights for top spot in the Pacific division.

You can't fault the Vegas Golden Knights for looking in their rear view mirror a little bit. The streaking San Jose Sharks have won seven consecutive games and will visit Sin City this coming Saturday night. Covers dangles at the hash and goes bar down to give NHL bettors a breakdown of what to watch for this week on the ice.

    Sharks Lurking

Don't look now, but the San Jose Sharks have streaked their way into the Pacific Division title picture as they prepare for a pivotal stretch of road games beginning Monday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Sharks enter the week as the hottest team in the league, having won seven consecutive games to move to within six points of the Vegas Golden Knights; both teams have seven games remaining. San Jose will play three games in three different cities over the next four nights - it travels to St. Louis on Tuesday before facing the Predators in Nashville on Thursday. The Sharks are +1,050 to pass the Golden Knights and win the division.

    Connor vs. Columbus

The Columbus Blue Jackets saw their 10-game winning streak come to a heartbreaking end over the weekend - and getting back in the win column won't be an easy task as they face scorching-hot Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. McDavid has taken over the league lead in scoring as he seeks his second consecutive Art Ross Trophy despite only turning 21 last January. The Blue Jackets dropped a 2-1 decision to the St. Louis Blues but remain in the hunt for top spot in the Metropolitan Division. But they'll need to watch out for McDavid, who had four points in his previous meeting with Columbus.

    Panther Playoff Push

It's a critical week for the Florida Panthers, who are on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture as they face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. The Panthers enter the week three points back of the New Jersey Devils for the second wild card spot in the East, but have two games in hand - and could do themselves a major solid by using one of those to upend the Maple Leafs, who have all but sewn up third place in the Atlantic Division. It's the last of four regular-season meetings between the teams, with Florida owning a 2-1 advantage; all three games have gone under, and have been settled by one goal.

    Player News

    * The Calgary Flames will be without star forward Johnny Gaudreau, who has left the team to attend to a family matter and won't be in the lineup Monday vs. Los Angeles. Gaudreau has a team-best 82 points for the Flames, who are +30,000 to win the Cup.

    * The Winnipeg Jets have added one of the top U.S. college prospects in the sport, signing Hobey Baker nominee C.J. Suess to an entry-level contract. Suess racked up 22 goals and 21 assists in 40 games with Minnesota State this past season.

    * Senators forward Matt Duchene says he will consider signing a contract extension with Ottawa despite missing the playoffs this season. Duchene started slowly following his trade from Colorado but has 25 points in 27 games since the All-Star break.

    Injury Updates

    * The Boston Bruins finally got some good news on the injury front as forward Patrice Bergeron returned to the lineup Sunday for the first time in a month. The Bruins, who went a red-hot 9-2-2 SU without Bergeron, are still down four key players due to injury.

    * Tobias Enstrom's disappointing 2017-18 campaign has gotten even worse, with the Jets ruling the veteran defenseman out for the rest of the regular season with a lower-body injury. Enstrom, who has six points in 43 games, might return in the postseason.

    * The Blues have lost some depth on the back end following a season-ending ACL injury to veteran defenseman Carl Gunnarson. St. Louis is installed as a +2,800 longshot to win its first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history.

    Stanley Cup Futures

    * It remains a two-horse race for the best Stanley Cup odds entering the second-last week of the regular season. The Nashville Predators are the front-runners on Bet365 at +400, with the Tampa Bay Lightning remaining in close pursuit at +440.

    * With star center Auston Matthews in the fold, the Maple Leafs will likely be one of the trendier plays at +800, fourth-best behind Nashville, Tampa Bay and Boston. The Winnipeg Jets and expansion Vegas Golden Knights are next in line at +900 each.

    * Don't sleep on the Los Angeles Kings, who have proven to be a very difficult out in years past even when squeaking into the postseason. The Kings carry whopping +3,000 odds to win their third Stanley Cup title in the previous seven years.

    Betting Trends

    * Betting on home favorites might not be the most exciting play, but it has certainly been the most lucrative over the past month's worth of games. Home faves have converted at nearly a 67-percent rate over the 30-day period ending Saturday.

    * It appears that the over will prevail in what has been an incredible season-long totals battle. Entering the final two weeks of the season, teams have played 572 overs - good for a 50.6-percent share - compared to 558 overs.

    * The battle for "best under play of the year" will likely come down to either the Blues or the Anaheim Ducks; both teams entered Sunday's action with a league-high 45 under conversions. Tampa Bay leads the over charge with 47 games above the total.

Monday's comp play is on the Hornets and the Knicks to land Over the total.

Yes, both teams have been playing them a bit on the low-side of late, as New York is on a 3-0-1 Under run their last 4, while Charlotte is 3-1 Under in their last 4 games. but when these teams get together, defense is usually low on the priority list.

Their meeting at Madison Square Garden on St. Patrick's Day did land well Over the total, as the Over moved to 6-1 the last 7 times the teams have met. The Over is also on an overall 15-4-2 run the last 21 meetings!

The Knicks sport a 10-2-1 Over mark their last 13 games playing a team with a losing record on the season, while the Hornets are currently on a 5-0-1 Over clip their last 6 at home.

Offense to get things going for both teams tonight, as the Knicks and Hornets land Over the total.

            On to my complimentary winner...

Is it just me, or is Ben Simmons reminding everyone who the best rookie in the NBA is, as we close the season? Are you seeing what this kid is doing of late?

I'm sure the Denver Nuggets have seen, and that's why I'm laying money the Philadelphia 76ers are going to have a field day against their guests tonight.

Simmons - who is averaging 13.2 points, 10.6 assists and 9.0 rebounds - ranks second in NBA history in triple-doubles by a rookie, having registered four in his last seven games, and 10 this season.

You couple that with a 76ers team that is 10-3 this month, and it's easy to see why I am laying a cheap number to the Nuggets, who have played eight of their last 12 on the highwayy.

Sixers roll here, taking care of a weary Denver team while Simmons aims for another triple-dub.

Plenty of things at stake for the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, as they host the Buffalo Sabres.

Toronto, which is sitting third in the Eastern Conference heading into tonight's action, is hoping to set a club record of 46 wins in a season. The Maple Leafs are still hoping to clinch a playoff berth, too, as the only two teams in the East who have are the Lighning and Bruins - both ahead of Toronto in the Atlantic Division.

The Leafs need wins to also hold off the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, who are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Toronto is in after extending its home winning streak to 13 games on Saturday, when it defeated Detroit to tie the club record for wins in a season at 45.

The lowly Sabres, who lost 5-1 to the New York Rangers on Saturday, have taken 144 shots in their last four games, but scored just twice. They're going to be hurting for offense tonight.

Play Toronto on the Puck Line.

The Vegas Golden Knights return home after losing two road games in overtime. And while they picked up points 100 and 101, and continue their magical ride to the postseason, they're not yet in the postseason.

And with T Mobile rocking tonight, and Colorado into visit after the two met Saturday in Denver, where the Avalanche won in a shootout, I'm banking on the front line of Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Tomas Tatar to have a big game.

Until Reilly Smith returns, Tatar is skating with one of the best lines in the NHL, and he's finally starting to find a groove with his new teammates since arriving from Detroit before the trade deadline.

I also think with one of the more dangerous set of blueliners, we might get some scoring from the likes of defensemen Shea Theodore or Nate Schmidt.

Vegas is going off tonight, as it clinches a playoff berth.

Early Final Four bettors hammering Ramblers, driving line down
                          Patrick Everson

"Early bettors – including sharps – jumped on Loyola +6.5, driving the number down to Michigan as 5-point chalk."

We’re down to four on the floor in the NCAA Tournament, and the talk of the town is not basketball royalty, but rather the common-man underdog run of an upstart No. 11 seed. We check in on the opening lines and early action for next Saturday’s Final Four, with insights from Dave Mason, brand manager for offshore sportsbook BetOnline.ag.

No. 11 Loyola-Chicago Ramblers vs. No. 3 Michigan Wolverines (-6.5)

Loyola-Chicago is the flavor of the year in the Big Dance, running off a string of four straight outright victories to win the South Region. The Ramblers (32-5 SU, 23-9-1 ATS), now the No. 1 pointspread team in the nation, rumbled over No. 9 seed Kansas State 78-62 as a 1-point pup Saturday to run their winning streak to 14 games (11-3 ATS).

Not to be outdone, Michigan heads to San Antonio on a 13-game tear, going 10-2-1 ATS in that stretch. The Wolverines (32-7 SU, 24-12-2 ATS) held off No. 9 seed Florida State 58-54 to push as a 4-point chalk in Saturday’s West Region final.

“Having covered its last six games, Loyola is now a money-making 23-9-1 ATS on the season,” Mason said. “Early bettors – including sharps – jumped on Loyola +6.5, driving the number down to Michigan as 5-point chalk. Since the move, more Michigan cash is coming in, but 59 percent of the money is still on Loyola and the points.”

No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks vs. No. 1 Villanova Wildcats (-4)

Kansas had to win a big-time battle of the blue bloods Sunday to claim the Midwest Region and reach the Final Four for the first time since 2012. The Jayhawks (31-7 SU, 20-16-1 ATS) went overtime against Duke, thanks to a late 3-pointer tying the score at 72, then went on to an 85-81 victory as a 3.5-point underdog.

Villanova returns to the Final Four seeking its second national championship in three years, having beaten North Carolina for the title to cap the 2015-16 season. The Wildcats (34-4 SU, 26-12 ATS) have four double-digit wins and covers thus far in the tournament, topping No. 3 seed Texas Tech 71-59 as a 6-point fave in Sunday’s East Region final.

“Loyal Villanova bettors have made a fortune over the last month, as the Wildcats have racked up a 7-1 ATS record over their last eight games,” Mason said. “Despite Villanova’s recent covering trend, 64 percent of early bettors are on Kansas and the points. However, the Jayhawks have moved from 4-point ‘dogs to getting 5, thanks to sharps taking ‘Nova minus the points.”
