Here’s our best bets for the action ahead:
St Louis Cardinals @ Cincinatti Reds
Remember that Tweet we sent out regarding how to make money this MLB season? Well, we’re standing by it today.
The Reds have been woeful for almost the entirety of this young season, and the young team have shown little signs of actually improving. Things won’t get easier for them at the plate either in this one, with the Cardinals looking for a repeat performance from Luke Weaver. In his two outings so far this season, the 24-year-old has allowed just a single run in each. While the Cardinals hitters were made to look good by some more sub-par pitching from the Reds they should have a tougher time in this one. That being said, the Reds are still allowing 6.50 runs per game on the season and their relief pitchers aren’t exactly aiding the issue with a league-worst 7.16 ERA on the year. This may seem a short price to invest on, but it’s still far higher than it should be. Tip: St Louis Cardinals @ $1.62 (Crownbet) (1.5 units)
Milwaukee Brewers @ New York Mets
The Mets could not have asked for a better start to the season after going a franchise-best 10-1 to open up the new season. This match up will certainly be a tough test for them however, especially give the way Milwaukee have started on the road. The home side will be hoping for a similar showing from pitcher Steven Matz, who is coming off a great bounce back game against the Nationals where he allowed just one unearned run. The left-hander will get the support of a very productive outfield defence that is helping minimise opponents to just 2.82 runs per game so far this season. Meanwhile, Zach Davies is hoping for a better showing after he was hit for seven runs in just over five innings at the mound against the Cardinals in his last start. The Mets are averaging 5.00 runs per game so far this season and the home team should have too much momentum and outfield presence to slip up in this series opener. Take the home team at inflated odds in this one.
Tip: New York Mets @ $1.74 (Crownbet)
Philadelphia Phillies @ Tampa Bay Rays
This one could be fun for the neutral, and for Overs bettors as a result. Jake Faria and Vince Velasquez are struggling for any consistency at the mound and both will provide their opposing line-ups with a great opportunity to break out the bats. In his last nine starts, Faria owns a horrible 0-4 record with a 6.43 ERA to match. He barely last two innings in his last start against the Red Sox after being smacked for eight runs, which was highlighted by a grand slam homer by Xander Bogaerts. Philly need to show some consistency at the plate and they won’t get a better opportunity than to go after a pitcher who is at rock-bottom with his confidence. The Rays hitters will hope to get involved as well given the inconsistencies we’ve come to expect from Velasquez and we feel the total here is just far too inviting. Our data has this one going closer to double-digits and so we’re happy to go in on the 7.5 while it’s still on offer.
