      Louisiana Downs - Race #7 - Post: 6:07pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $11,500 Class Rating: 77

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

      #7 HOODUE (ML=6/1)
      #2 COMBAT COMMAND (ML=6/1)
#4 GET IT TO GEAUX (ML=5/1)

HOODUE - I undeniably see positive things for this thoroughbred right here. COMBAT COMMAND - Gelding's last race was against tougher open company. He's in with easier 'state breds' today. This is a classic 'Lone Front-runner' scenario. If Delcid gets him out of the gate cleanly it'll likely be smooth sailing. Delcid and Hall partnered with one another are a punter's friend. GET IT TO GEAUX - I like that last race on Jun 6th at Louisiana Downs where he finished third.

Vulnerable Contenders: #9 GUITAR KING (ML=7/2), #5 JALEN HURTS (ML=4/1), #1 MIDDLE OF FOREVER (ML=9/2),

GUITAR KING - In the last affair this steed finished fourth. Doesn't bode well for his chances this time around. JALEN HURTS - Tough to play any horse to turn things around if there is no large gain to taking the shot. Mediocre fig last out at Louisiana Downs at 1 mile. Don't think this mount will improve too much in today's race. MIDDLE OF FOREVER - Pace makes the race and the shortage of pace means this come from behinder will have to rally without any help. This gelding just doesn't seem to like the one hole. His running lines show that he doesn't fare well from there.

          # 5 GO HIPPO GO 6/1

          # 4 ROCHESTER 3/1

          # 3 OUT AT EIGHT 5/2

GO HIPPO GO looks quite good to best this field. Has run solidly when racing a dirt route race. ROCHESTER - With a solid 76 average Equibase Speed Fig at the distance, seems well suited for today's race. Looks to have a solid class edge based on the most recent company kept. OUT AT EIGHT - Will probably compete quite well in the early speed battle which bodes well with this field. Earned a decent speed figure last time out.

            # 11 IT'S GOOD TO BE US 10/1

            # 8 FROGMAN MEL 6/1

            # 10 LITTLE SIETE 4/1

I like IT'S GOOD TO BE US for this race and is a competitive value bet given the line at 10/1. Has to be given consideration for this event if only for the quite good speed rating put up in the last outing. Can't overlook the connections here, a 25 winning percentage, one of the best at getting into the winner's circle. FROGMAN MEL - This gelding should be carefully examined just off the earnings per start in turf route events alone. Has competitive Equibase speed figs and has to be considered for a bet in this contest. LITTLE SIETE - Put up a very good speed figure last time out. Zulueta and Pennington have a strong win percentage together.

              #1 TRUMP THAT (ML=6/1)

TRUMP THAT - The rest of the group may trail this thoroughbred all the way around the track. Based on this filly's recent efforts, she should be aided by this shorter trip. Ran a less than stellar race at Thistledown last time out. Racing on a fast track puts this filly at the top of my contenders roll call.

              Vulnerable Contenders: #2 LITTLE TITA (ML=5/2), #3 OK KID (ML=3/1), #5 CONGREELY (ML=7/2),

LITTLE TITA - This sustainer looks to have little chance without a ding-dong battle up front. Today's race is 6 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a sprint event in the last couple months. Not the greatest of signs. OK KID - Hard to keep chasing this kind of 'bridesmaid' horse. Showed indications of physical problems in the contest on Jun 11th at Thistledown. CONGREELY - This filly probably needs a better pace situation to make her late rush.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - TRUMP THAT - Equibase class rating today of 46. Taking a big drop in the level of competition and should respond to an easier level of competition. Worth a bet.

                by Gracenote on 06/24/2018

edwin jackson will match a major-league record on monday afternoon when the veteran right-hander suits up for his 13th team as the oakland athletics open a four-game series against the detroit tigers at comerica park. jackson, who will join former reliever octavio dotel for the honor, opted out of his contract with washington before signing a minor-league deal with the athletics on june 6.

jackson could receive a jolt from an oakland offense that has made itself at home in opposing ballparks, with mark canha's lead-off blast in the fifth inning in sunday's 10-3 setback to the chicago white sox, helping the athletics set a major-league record with 25 straight road games with a homer. the 29-year-old's drive pushed his hitting streak to six games, during which he has three homers, six rbis and five runs scored. like oakland (40-38), detroit (36-42) was on the business end of a blowout on sunday to see its skid reach five straight games - tying a season high. nicholas castellanos answered a 1-for-13 slump by going 2-for-4 with a run scored in sunday's 12-2 setback.
tv: 3:10 p.m. et, mlb network, fs detroit
pitching matchup: athletics rh edwin jackson (2017: 5-6, 5.21 era) vs. tigers rh jordan zimmermann (2-0, 4.95)

jackson, who has pitched for the tigers among a host of other teams, posted a 0-1 mark with a 4.02 era and eight walks in 15 2/3 innings over three starts with triple-a nashville. the 34-year-old is lending a hand to an injury-ravaged rotation in oakland that is without trevor cahill (achilles'), daniel gossett (elbow), brett anderson (shoulder), andrew triggs (arm) and jharel cotton (elbow). victor martinez is 5-for-25 in his career versus jackson, while castellanos (0-for-3, two strikeouts), jose iglesias (0-for-3) and james mccann (0-for-2) are hitless against the hurler.
zimmermann retired the first 12 batters he faced before running into trouble in the fifth inning on june 16, eventually yielding four runs on as many hits in a no-decision against the chicago white sox. the start was the 32-year-old's first after missing six weeks with a right shoulder impingement. khris davis is 1-for-12 with four strikeouts versus zimmermann, who sports a 1-0 mark with a 1.14 whip in two career starts against oakland.
                walk-offs

                1. iglesias had nine hits in his previous six games before going 0-for-3 on sunday.

                2. oakland has launched 68 homers in 38 road games this season, as opposed to just 36 in 40 home tilts.

                3. the athletics own a 10-4 record against american league central representatives.

the kansas city royals own the worst record in the american league and are losers of 11 of their last 12 games after falling 11-3 to the houston astros on sunday. the royals will try to turn things around at home when they host mike trout and the los angeles angels on monday in the makeup of a rainout from april 15.

the royals scored three or fewer runs in each of their last six games and are last in the al in runs scored at 275 while owning a run differential of minus-151. kansas city had a chance to take the series from the defending-champion astros after earning a 1-0 win in the opener on friday but dropped a 4-3 decision in 12 innings on saturday before getting crushed on sunday. trout is still tied for the major league lead with 23 home runs but could not get the angels a series win against toronto, going a combined 2-for-9 with four strikeouts on saturday and sunday as los angeles dropped the final two of a four-game set to settle for a split. trout will try to find the power stroke again on monday against royals right-hander brad keller, who opposes lefty tyler skaggs.

pitching matchup: angels lh tyler skaggs (6-4, 2.81 era) vs. royals rh brad keller (1-2, 2.63)
skaggs had his start pushed back due to a hamstring injury but came through a bullpen session with no trouble on saturday and is expected to rejoin the rotation monday. the 26-year-old allowed a total of one earned run over 20 innings while earning the win in each of his last three starts and struck out 22 in that span. skaggs is seeing kansas city for the first time this season and is 1-0 without a run allowed in 14 career innings against the royals.

keller is making a smooth transition from the bullpen to the rotation but is still looking for his first win as a starter. the 22-year-old allowed three runs and nine hits over six innings against houston in his last outing on june 17 but did not factor in the decision. keller started at the angels on june 5 and absorbed the loss while surrendering one run and five hits in 4 1/3 innings.

                  1. royals 1b lucas duda (foot) homered on sunday and is 2-for-7 in two games since coming off the disabled list.
                  2. los angeles rhp hansel robles, who was claimed off waivers from the new york mets on saturday, made his team debut sunday and absorbed the loss.

                  3. kansas city ss alcides escobar is 5-for-59 over his last 17 games.

                  prediction: angels 5, royals 2

the new york yankees will be without one of their top sluggers as they attempt to halt a three-game slide when they visit the philadelphia phillies on monday for the opener of their three-game interleague series. gary sanchez, who is tied for third on the club with 14 homers, exited sunday's 12-inning setback at tampa bay with a right hip/groin injury and likely is headed to the disabled list.

in addition to sanchez, new york lost its season-high third straight contest sunday, dropping a 7-6 decision despite a 5-for-5 performance from giancarlo stanton. the 28-year-old homered to tie aaron judge for the team lead and pull within one blast of reaching the 20-homer plateau in each of his nine major-league campaigns. philadelphia returns home for a nine-game stretch after failing to complete a three-game sweep in washington on sunday. the phillies wasted two- and four-run leads in the 8-6 setback but went deep twice to give them six homers in the series while odubel herrera registered his seventh multi-hit performance in 10 contests.

pitching matchup: yankees rh jonathan loaisiga (1-0, 3.12 era) vs. phillies rh vince velasquez (5-7, 4.82)

loaisiga will be making his third career start after a short outing against seattle on wednesday. the 23-year-old nicaraguan lasted only 3 2/3 innings versus the mariners but avoided a loss after yielding three runs on six hits and two walks. loaisiga, who went 3-1 with a 4.32 era in six turns with double-a trenton before joining the yankees, has yet to serve up a home run over 8 2/3 frames in his two major-league starts.
velasquez escaped with a no-decision against st. louis on tuesday after giving up four runs on four hits and three walks across 6 1/3 innings. the 26-year-old californian has won only one of his last six starts despite allowing fewer than three runs in four of the outings. velasquez made one start and one relief appearance against the yankees while with houston in 2015, yielding three runs and six hits over 8 1/3 frames without recording a decision.
                    walk-offs

                    1. stanton has gone 10-for-17 over his last four road games.

                    2. philadelphia placed 2b jesmuel valentin on the paternity list sunday and activated of dylan cozens (quadriceps) from the 10-day disabled list.

the seattle mariners were cruising along and battling the houston astros for first place in the american league west before heading east for a 10-game road trip. the mariners did not have much luck against boston and new york but will try to bounce back when they visit the baltimore orioles for the opener of a four-game series on monday.

seattle was swept in three games by the yankees and dropped two of three at boston, including a 5-0 setback in the rubber match on sunday. the mariners were 21 games over .500 after a home win over boston on june 16 but since dropped six of seven to fall 4 1/2 games behind the surging astros in the al west. the orioles should pose less of a challenge as the last-place team in the al east but just got done taking two of three at the atlanta braves and broke out of a team-wide offensive funk by totaling 20 runs in the three-game set. seattle will try to keep baltimore in check with staff ace felix hernandez while the orioles counter with righty andrew cashner on monday.
tv: 7:05 p.m. et, root northwest (seattle), masn (baltimore)
pitching matchup: mariners rh felix hernandez (6-6, 5.14 era) vs. orioles rh andrew cashner (2-8, 4.72)

hernandez is trying to rediscover his all-star form and allowed one earned run in each of his last two outings while striking out 12 in as many innings against powerhouses boston and new york. the former cy young award winner surrendered just two home runs in his last seven starts after yielding 10 in his first nine turns. hernandez is seeing baltimore for the first time since july 25, 2014, when he struck out 10 in seven strong innings.
cashner scattered three hits over four scoreless innings at washington on wednesday but did not go back to the mound after a lengthy rain delay and was held out of the decision. the tcu product was making his first start since june 8 after dealing with a back injury. cashner made five starts against seattle as a member of the texas rangers last season and went 2-2 with a 4.23 era.
                      walk-offs

                      1. mariners ss jean segura (forearm infection) sat out the last four games and is day-to-day.

                      2. orioles of mark trumbo hit safely in each of his last eight games and homered five times in that span.

the tampa bay rays look to ride the momentum after sweeping the team with the best record in the majors when they host the washington nationals on monday for the opener of their two-game interleague series. rookie jake bauers' walk-off homer in the 12th inning on sunday gave the rays a 7-6 triumph over the visiting new york yankees - their sixth straight victory at tropicana field and fifth in seven games overall.

tampa bay, which was outscored 15-4 in two losses at washington earlier this month and is 0-7 in interleague play, registered nine of its 10 hits on sunday in the first three innings while scoring more than four runs for the first time in 12 games. all-star game candidate blake snell looks to reach 10 wins for the first time in his career and continue his strong pitching at home when he takes the mound monday against gio gonzalez. the nationals also look to build off a thrilling victory after rallying from four runs down to top philadelphia 8-6 on sunday and avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of their national league east rival. anthony rendon (14-for-32) and rookie juan soto (9-for-28) both bring eight-game hitting streaks into the series for washington while daniel murphy went 5-for-12 against the phillies over the weekend.

pitching matchup: nationals lh gio gonzalez (6-4, 3.08 era) vs. rays lh blake snell (9-4, 2.48)

gonzalez, who is winless in his last four starts, allowed two runs and five hits over four innings in a rain-shortened appearance against baltimore last time out. the 32-year-old floridian owns a 6.20 era in four turns this month after posting a 3-0 record and 1.47 era in may, including two scoreless outings. c.j. cron is 2-for-3 with a homer versus gonzalez, who is 2-2 with a 5.54 era in six career appearances (four starts) against tampa bay.
snell has gone 5-1 in his last seven starts after holding houston to one run on three hits and seven walks over seven innings - his longest outing since april - in his last turn. the 25-year-old native of seattle has recorded 11 quality starts in his last 14 trips to the mound and has been dominant at home, going 4-1 with a 0.96 era in six outings. snell will be facing washington for the first time in his career but is 3-2 with a 2.33 era in eight career interleague starts.

                        1. washington rf bryce harper went 3-for-5 with two runs and an rbi on sunday after going just 3-for-28 in his previous eight contests.

                        2. tampa bay ss adeiny hechavarria belted a solo homer on sunday and is 12-for-34 during his nine-game hitting streak.
                        3. the rays, who are 13-14 all-time against the washington franchise, will match its worst interleague start (0-8) in 2005 with a loss.

the new york mets get plenty of headlines for their struggles at the plate, but the pittsburgh pirates are hurting just as much with the bats. both teams will try to scratch out a few runs when the mets host the pirates on monday night in the opener of a three-game series.

the pirates are hitting the road for a nine-game trip through new york, san diego and los angeles on the heels of a five-game losing streak that saw them total eight runs. pittsburgh managed five hits while getting blanked 3-0 by the arizona diamondbacks on sunday and watched the nos. 4, 5 and 6 hitters in the lineup combine to go 0-for-9 with three strikeouts. the mets are actually hitting better of late but struggled on the mound while dropping six in a row - allowing an average of 7.8 runs in that span. new york will try to stop the bleeding with righty seth lugo on monday while the pirates send right-hander jameson taillon to the mound.

lugo struggled in his last two starts, allowing a total of 11 runs - eight earned - and 14 hits over eight innings at arizona and colorado. the 28-year-old is holding down a rotation spot while noah syndergaard (finger) is on the disabled list and yielded a total of three homers in his last two outings. lugo is seeing pittsburgh for the first time in his career and is 1-0 with a 0.90 era in 13 games - two starts - at home this season.

shelby miller makes his first trip to a major-league mound in more than 14 months when the arizona diamondbacks look to continue their hot streak monday night in the first of four games against the host miami marlins. miller underwent tommy john surgery after making just four starts last season and hopes to help the diamondbacks win for the ninth time in 10 road games.

five-time all-star paul goldschmidt, who has hit safely in 17 of his last 18 contests, should be back in the lineup after resting in sunday's 3-0 victory as arizona completed a four-game sweep at pittsburgh and won for the 12th time in 16 outings overall. the national league west leaders, who gave up just six runs against the pirates, will face miami right-hander dan straily in the series opener monday. the marlins enter this series fresh off their first winning road trip of the season (5-4) after outlasting colorado 8-5 on sunday as derek dietrich homered among four hits to improve his batting average to .410 since may 31. miami was outscored 21-4 while getting swept in three games at arizona to start june but opens a 10-game homestand and has won three of its last four contests at marlins park.
