Portland Trail Blazers vs. Memphis Grizzlies Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NBA Predictions 11th December 2018 by Gracenote
    by Gracenote on 12/12/2018

The Portland Trail Blazers have dropped five straight road games to sabotage a strong start to the season. Portland aims to halt its poor play on the road when it visits the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

The Trail Blazers were 12-5 before the road woes began and have lost seven of their last 10 overall games after falling 111-103 at Houston on Tuesday. Damian Lillard scored 34 points against the Rockets for his fifth straight outing with 25 or more - a stretch during which he is averaging 31.4. Memphis has lost back-to-back contests and six of nine since also getting off to a strong 12-5 start. Mike Conley injured his left hamstring during Monday's 105-99 loss to Denver but is expected to be in the lineup against Portland.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCS Northwest (Portland), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (15-12): Portland's bench was a liability in Tuesday's loss as it matched a season low for points as it was outscored 37-13 while being a collective 5-for-17 from the floor. "Our bench struggled to score the ball a little bit in both halves," coach Terry Stotts told reporters. "Their bench, I think, was 15-for-22, so they really impacted the game on their offensive end." Portland also committed twice as many turnovers (14-7) and watched Houston record a 22-8 advantage on fast-break points.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (15-11): Marc Gasol is in a five-game funk during which he is averaging 9.8 points on 17-of-54 shooting. He recorded just four points against the Los Angeles Clippers on Dec. 5 and again was in single digits against the Nuggets, registering seven while attempting only six shots. "We've got to get him involved," coach J.B. Bickerstaff told reporters. "We need Marc to get double-figure shots every night. I have to do a better job of putting him in position where he can get his shots."

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Trail Blazers SG CJ McCollum averaged 30.5 points as the team split four meetings with the Grizzlies last season.

    2. Memphis F JaMychal Green registered 13 points and 10 rebounds against the Nuggets for his second double-double of the season.

    3. Portland C Jusuf Nurkic, who recorded 15 points and 10 boards versus Houston, has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in each of his last four games.

PREDICTION: Grizzlies 99, Trail Blazers 95

Atlanta Hawks vs. Dallas Mavericks Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NBA Predictions 11th December 2018 by Gracenote
      by Gracenote on 12/11/2018

It is safe to say the Dallas Mavericks have left their 3-8 start to the season well behind, now that they sit in eighth place in the Western Conference and are three games above .500 entering Wednesday's home game against the Atlanta Hawks. Dallas is 11-3 since its slow start, winning for the fourth time in five games Monday with a 101-76 home rout of Orlando with a rookie leading the way - but not standout rookie Luka Doncic.

Guard Jalen Brunson scored a season-high 17 points in the victory, while rookie-of-the-year candidate Doncic finished with 11 rebounds and nine assists - both season highs - while scoring just seven points, 10 below his season average. "He's more seasoned than you expect out of a guy in their first year," Dallas guard Wesley Matthews told the media in describing the rookie Brunson, a two-time NCAA champion at Villanova. "He's stepped into the opportunity well." The Hawks have won just six games all season, but beat Denver 106-98 on Saturday at home to snap a four-game losing streak as forward John Collins scored a career-high 30 points. "The future is very bright for John," Atlanta guard Kent Bazemore told reporters afterward.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Atlanta), FS Southeast (Dallas)

ABOUT THE HAWKS (6-20): Collins missed the start of the season with a left ankle injury, but the second-year player is averaging 24.8 points across his past four contests. Rookie point guard Trae Young, who the Hawks acquired from Dallas for Doncic in a draft-night trade, averages 15.4 points and is 10th in the league in assists (7.2). Guard Vince Carter, one month shy of his 42nd birthday, has scored 13 points off the bench in his past two games on 9-of-17 shooting.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (14-11): Doncic, the Western Conference rookie of the month for October/November, averages 17.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Brunson, filling in for Dennis Smith Jr. (right wrist sprain) made his second consecutive start Monday and reached double figures in scoring for the third straight game. Center DeAndre Jordan ranks third in the NBA in rebounds per game (13.6).

      BUZZER BEATERS

      1. Atlanta has won 10 straight games against the Mavericks, including a 111-104 victory at Dallas on Oct. 24.

      2. The Mavericks won their past 10 home games, their longest home winning streak since 2007-08.

      3. Several Hawks will miss Wednesday's game with various injuries including G Jeremy Lin (lower back strain) and G Taurean Prince (left ankle sprain).

      PREDICTION: Mavericks 107, Hawks 94

Miami Heat vs. Utah Jazz Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NBA Predictions 11th December 2018 by Gracenote
        by Gracenote on 12/11/2018

The Miami Heat look to defeat Utah for the fifth consecutive time when they visit the Jazz on Wednesday. Miami is 2-1 at the midway point of a six-game road trip after falling 108-105 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.

The Heat won the first two games of their excursion by an average of 20 points before losing to the Lakers in the expected final battle between former Miami teammates Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. Wade had 15 points and a season-best 10 assists in the contest but was 6-of-19 shooting and missed a late tying 3-point attempt while being defended by James. The Jazz dropped consecutive road games to the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder and trailed by as many as 29 against the Thunder on Monday before closing the losing margin to 122-113. "When you put yourself behind the 8-ball, you have to be lucky or perfect to get back in the game and win," Jazz coach Quin Snyder told reporters. "We didn't play well enough to deserve that. We were competing, but we didn't execute. That's what it comes down to."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Sun (Miami), AT&T SportsNet (Utah)

ABOUT THE HEAT (11-15): Forward Justise Winslow established career bests of 28 points and six 3-pointers in the loss to the Lakers and scored at least 20 points in three straight games. Winslow is averaging 23 points during the hot stretch and his ability impresses Wade. "The kid is playing amazing basketball. His confidence is where it needs to be," Wade told reporters of Winslow. "You love to see it, he's a great kid. I told him, 'Don't take all my moves while I'm still here. Wait until I leave.' He's a student of the game and you can see it when he plays, he's really figuring out his game and figuring out what he needs to do for this team."

ABOUT THE JAZZ (13-15): Utah was sloppy with the basketball in the loss to Oklahoma City by committing 20 turnovers, 19 of them in the first three quarters. "You can't turn the ball over," shooting guard Donovan Mitchell told reporters. "I had six of my own, the most on the team, but you've got to be strong with the ball. We've got to execute -- we just kind of gave it to them." Mitchell scored 19 points against the Thunder and is just 17-of-45 shooting over the last three games.

        BUZZER BEATERS

        1. The Heat defeated the Jazz 102-100 in Miami on Dec. 2.

        2. Utah C Rudy Gobert recorded 13 points and 14 rebounds against the Thunder for his 23rd double-double of the season.

        3. Miami C Hassan Whiteside (birth of child) will likely miss his fourth straight game.

        PREDICTION: Jazz 107, Heat 103

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Sacramento Kings Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NBA Predictions 11th December 2018 by Gracenote
          by Gracenote on 12/11/2018

The Minnesota Timberwolves aren't having much luck on their current road trip, which is part of a season-long trend of the team struggling away from home. The Timberwolves will try to earn their third road win of the season and give themselves a shot at splitting the four-game trip when they visit the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.

Minnesota dropped a 113-105 decision at Portland on Saturday to begin the trip and fell 116-108 at defending-champion Golden State on Monday but did not come away discouraged after the latest setback. "I liked the resiliency and the fight," Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters. "It's just that a team like that, you can't give them a second and third crack at it." The Kings don't have the same problems on the road and finished off a 3-1 trip with a 108-89 victory at Chicago on Monday. Sacramento won four of its last five overall to run its record to two games over .500 and is thriving behind a young roster led by second-year point guard De'Aaron Fox.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, FS North (Minnesota), NBCS California (Sacramento)

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (13-14): Minnesota center Karl-Anthony Towns collected 31 points on 11-of-15 shooting and 11 rebounds on Monday but also committed four of his team's 16 turnovers, which led to 27 points for the Warriors. "The second-chance points and turnovers are what led us to our downfall tonight," Towns told reporters. "It's disheartening, but at the end of the day also you have to understand that those things happen. We've got to fix them. We didn't stop the bleeding all night. That's what really led us to our demise." It was the fourth consecutive double-double for Towns, who is averaging 27.3 points and 11 rebounds in that span.

ABOUT THE KINGS (14-12): Fox scored 15 of his 25 points in a decisive third quarter on Monday and added six assists, four steals and four rebounds while knocking down four 3-pointers. Fox is averaging 20.8 points and 7.4 assists over the last five games and was part of a perimeter defensive effort on Monday that limited the Bulls to 8-of-28 from beyond the arc. Manning the inside is fellow Kentucky product Willie Cauley-Stein, who collected 11 points and a season-high 16 rebounds on Monday for his third double-double in the last six games.

          BUZZER BEATERS

          1. Timberwolves SF Robert Covington (knee) returned from a one-game absence on Monday and managed seven points on 2-of-7 shooting in 26 minutes.

          2. Kings SG Buddy Hield made at least four 3-pointers in each of the last three games.

          3. Sacramento knocked off Minnesota at home 121-110 on Nov. 9 behind 16 points and 10 assists from Fox.

          PREDICTION: Kings 113, Timberwolves 108

Toronto Raptors vs. Golden State Warriors Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NBA Predictions 12th December 2018 by Gracenote
            by Gracenote on 12/12/2018

The status of star forward Kawhi Leonard is unknown as the NBA-best Toronto Raptors square off against the host Golden State Warriors on Wednesday. Leonard missed Tuesday night's 123-99 road victory over the Los Angeles Clippers with a bruised right hip and his availability will be firmed up as game time approaches.

Leonard scored a season-best 37 points in a 131-128 overtime victory over the Warriors on Nov. 29 on a night in which Golden State star forward Kevin Durant tallied a season-best 51. Toronto put together an impressive effort without its star in the thrashing of the Clippers as it made 14-of-29 3-point baskets and held a 28-4 edge in fast-break points. The Warriors have won their past four games and got forward Draymond Green (toe) back from an 11-game absence for Monday's 116-108 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. "I felt like a kid in the candy store the last few days," Green told reporters of his return. "To come back off a layoff like that, I felt pretty good. I really had no issues at all. It's good to get back to who we are."

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, TSN (Toronto), NBCS Bay Area (Golden State)

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (22-7): Leonard had played in nine straight games prior to Tuesday's absence and had been slated to play in his first back-to-back of the season before the injury that he suffered Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks. The lineup shuffling led to point guard Fred VanVleet being pushed into the starting five and he distributed a career-best 14 assists while committing only two turnovers. Power forward Serge Ibaka scored 25 points but the most pleasing sight to the Raptors was seeing four-time All-Star guard Kyle Lowry make four 3-pointers while scoring 21 points after he averaged five on 8-of-42 shooting over the previous five games.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (19-9): Point guard Stephen Curry made seven 3-pointers while scoring 38 points against Minnesota and has enjoyed a dominating five-game run since returning from a groin injury. Curry is averaging 31.4 points and has made 29-of-56 3-point attempts during the stretch, topped by a 42-point effort against the Cleveland Cavaliers. "We were playing really, really fast and excited," Curry told reporters of the victory over the Timberwolves. "Just had to settle in and make the simple play. In the second half we kind of slowed down."

            BUZZER BEATERS

            1. The Warriors have won 13 straight home games against the Raptors with Toronto's last win in Oakland coming in overtime Feb. 8, 2004.

            2. Toronto F Pascal Siakam scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-10 shooting in last month's win over the Warriors.

            3. Golden State has made 69 3-pointers during its four-game winning streak, compared to 30 for the opponents.

            PREDICTION: Warriors 124, Raptors 121

Vegas Golden Knights vs. New York Islanders Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NHL Predictions 11th December 2018 by Gracenote
              by Gracenote on 12/11/2018

The Vegas Golden Knights have reversed their early-season doldrums by starting to reclaim their dominance at T-Mobile Arena, but they will have to show they can win away from home. Winners of eight of 10 overall and five in a row at home, the Golden Knights will kick off a four-game road trip with a visit to the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.

Vegas' home/road disparity was on display the past two games as it was mauled 5-1 at league-worst Los Angeles before rebounding with a 4-2 win over Dallas the next night to improve to 10-3-1 at T-Mobile Arena. "I've been in the NHL quite a long time -- this is incredible," Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. "Every game we play the crowd just gets behind us and they really lift our hockey team." The Islanders are the only team in the NHL that Vegas has not beaten, sweeping the two-game season series in 2017-18. A lack of offense has been hurting New York, which has scored a combined 12 goals while dropping five of its last seven games (2-3-2), including a 2-0 shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Monday night.

              TV: 7 p.m. ET, AT&T Sportsnet-Rocky Mountain (Vegas), MSG-Plus (New York)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (17-14-1): Center Paul Stastny, who was signed to a three-year contract as a free agent in the offseason, could return to the lineup for the first time in more than two months after suffering a lower-body injury in the third game of the season. Stastny, who had a 53-point season with St. Louis and Winnipeg in 2017-18 and starred for the Jets in the playoffs, had his first full practice Tuesday since he was hurt. "He's close, real close," Gallant said. "There's a possibility he's going to play on this trip. We'll see when he's ready, when he feels good, but we want to make sure."

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (14-11-4): Because New York did not practice Tuesday, there were no updates available on the condition of forwards Cal Clutterbuck and Jordan Eberle, who each exited Monday's game with undisclosed injuries. Although the Islanders have struggled to produce on offense, 2015 first-round pick Anthony Beauvillier has heated up by scoring seven of his eight goals over the past dozen games. The power play failed to convert in overtime against Pittsburgh to continue a lengthy slump in which New York has managed only five goals in 56 opportunities with the extra skater since Nov. 1.

              OVERTIME

              1. Vegas F William Karlsson has scored in five of his last eight games.

              2. Islanders F Josh Bailey set up a goal in each of the past two games and had three assists in his first matchup versus Vegas

              3. The Golden Knights have scored a power-play goal in 12 of their last 17 games.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 3, Islanders 2

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Chicago Blackhawks Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NHL Predictions 12th December 2018 by Gracenote
                by Gracenote on 12/12/2018

The Pittsburgh Penguins are riding a four-game point streak (3-0-1) during which they scored six goals in each of the first two contests but a total of two over the last pair. Pittsburgh hopes to rev up the offense again when it concludes a three-game road trip Wednesday against the struggling Chicago Blackhawks.

The Penguins kicked off their trek Saturday with a 2-1 overtime loss in Ottawa and posted a 2-1 shootout victory against the New York Islanders two days later, with Derick Brassard scoring the team's lone goal prior to the bonus format. Captain Sidney Crosby, Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin were kept off the scoresheet in that contest as the latter two remained tied for the club lead with 33 points apiece and the former staying just one behind them. Chicago is coming off its eighth consecutive setback and 10th in 11 contests, a 6-3 loss at Winnipeg on Tuesday in which it got within a goal after allowing the first four before succumbing. Patrick Kane notched a pair of assists for his second straight two-point performance during his four-game point streak for the Blackhawks, who are beginning a four-game homestand.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, TVA

ABOUT THE PENGUINS (13-10-6): Pittsburgh's lineup could receive a boost on Wednesday as goaltender Matt Murray and veteran center Matt Cullen may return from 11-game absences due to lower-body injuries. Both players were full participants in Tuesday's practice, with Cullen receiving the green light for contact, and could be on the ice against Chicago. Patric Hornqvist (upper body) likely won't be, however, as the 31-year-old Swede did not practice and remains day-to-day.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (9-18-5): Kane has been kept off the scoresheet just once in his last nine games, registering three goals and eight assists in that stretch. Alex DeBrincat netted a tally against the Jets, giving him a point in eight of his last 10 contests (three goals, five assists). Captain Jonathan Toews has gone back-to-back games without a point, keeping him two shy of 700 for his career.

                OVERTIME

                1. Penguins LW Jake Guentzel has landed on the scoresheet in nine of his last 11 games, collecting six goals and eight assists in that span.

                2. Chicago's only victory in its last 11 contests came in overtime at Florida on Nov. 24.

                3. Pittsburgh G Casey DeSmith has gone 6-1-1 in his last eight starts while filling in for Murray.

                PREDICTION: Penguins 5, Blackhawks 2

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Calgary Flames Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NHL Predictions 11th December 2018 by Gracenote
Flyers vs. Flames Preview and Predictions

                  by Gracenote on 12/11/2018

Calgary Flames coach Bill Peters has seen his team's spirited 9-2-1 surge over the last 12 games add up to a spot atop the Pacific Division in addition to a place in the conversation among the Western Conference's elite. The high-octane Flames aim to rebound from a shutout loss to a bitter rival when they host the struggling Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

"Lots of hockey left. If I do the math right, there's 51 games left," Peters said, via the Calgary Sun. "So we can prove to be elite over the next 51 -- if that's the case, right? I think we could become elite. I don't think we're there yet. But we could become elite if we continue to follow the process and continue to make steps each and every month." The Flames' fifth-ranked offense was held in check in Sunday's 1-0 setback in Edmonton, but the club returns home where it boasts a 10-3-2 mark. Dousing the Flames will be a tough task for a Philadelphia team that is allowing a 29th-ranked 3.61 goals per contest and has dropped eight of its last 11 (3-6-2) following Sunday's 7-1 shellacking at Winnipeg. Jakub Voracek scored in the first period to extend his point streak to five games, during which he has three goals and three assists.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia, Sportsnet (Calgary)

ABOUT THE FLYERS (12-13-3): Brian Elliott could be ready to walk back through the revolving goaltending door during the final three contests of the five-game road trip for Philadelphia, which has used five netminders this season. The 33-year-old former Flames goaltender permitted two goals or fewer in each of his last seven appearances since being sidelined with an apparent groin injury since Nov. 15. While Elliott's potential return date is unknown, center Sean Couturier is in line to re-insert his name back in the lineup on Wednesday after missing two games with an undisclosed lower-body injury.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (19-10-2): Johnny Gaudreau earned NHL Third Star of Week honors after collecting six assists and eight points in his last four contests to push his team-leading totals to 27 and 39, respectively. While the offense is receiving plenty of fanfare, goaltender Mike Smith has been rather stingy while yielding nine goals during a flawless six-game run since Nov. 15. "There have been a few blips on the screen, but if you look at our data with chances, shots against, we've cleaned up a lot defensively," Flames general manager Brad Treliving said, per TSN. "We're spending less time in our end, giving up less. Our young defense has been a stabilizer for us."

Dallas Stars vs. Anaheim Ducks Preview and Predictions 2018-12-12

NHL Predictions 11th December 2018 by Gracenote
                    by Gracenote on 12/11/2018

The Dallas Stars are in the midst of a stretch of eight consecutive games against teams from the Pacific Division and they have earned points in five of the first six (4-1-1) as they prepare to resume a four-game road trip at the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. The Stars are 9-1-1 this season against Pacific foes but have dropped five in a row at the Honda Center.

Dallas had its four-game winning streak snapped in Sunday's 4-2 loss at Vegas in a performance that "concerned" coach Jim Montgomery. "We were consistently playing with energy and emotion and a lot of competitiveness, which comes with those two qualities," he said. "The last two games we haven't had it." Anaheim lost both meetings against the Stars -- both in Dallas -- this season, giving up five goals in each, but it is on a roll with eight victories in its last 10 games. The Ducks rank 30th in the league in scoring but won for the sixth time in seven contests by outlasting New Jersey 6-5 in a shootout on Sunday, marking the third time in four games they have netted at least four goals.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, FS Southwest Plus (Dallas), Prime Ticket (Anaheim)

ABOUT THE STARS (16-11-3): The lineup could feature a new look after Montgomery split up captain Jamie Benn and center Tyler Seguin on the top line at Tuesday's practice while also juggling his power-play units. Seguin and Alexander Radulov were joined by Devin Shore, Radek Faksa and Gavin Bayreuther on the top power play while Benn skated with forwards Martin Hanzal and Jason Spezza on the second unit. "I'd like to create inner competition within our team," Montgomery said. "Having stars on both units creates that internally, which is healthy and also allows me to go with whoever's freshest."

ABOUT THE DUCKS (16-11-5): Anaheim received bad news on the injury front Tuesday, learning that backup goaltender Ryan Miller will be sidelined six weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament and foward Rickard Rakell is out indefinitely with a sprained ankle. Miller has appeared in 10 games, making seven starts, but Rakell could be the bigger issue -- he is second on the team with 20 points but scored 67 goals over the past two seasons. The Ducks wasted no time in filling the void created by Miller's injury, claiming veteran netminder Chad Johnson on waivers from St. Louis.

                    OVERTIME

                    1. Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, who scored twice at Dallas on Oct. 25, has 12 points in the last 11 games.

                    2. Stars G Ben Bishop is 8-1-2 with a 1.38 goals-against average versus Anaheim.

                    3. Ducks F Ondrej Kase has three goals and six assists over the last eight games.

                    PREDICTION: Ducks 4, Stars 3

Game of the Night: Raptors at Warriors – 10:30 PM EST

Golden State (19-9 SU, 13-15 ATS) is the two-time undisputed champion in the NBA and barring injury, will be back in the Finals in June. It will not be a repeat matchup with Cleveland, but Toronto (22-7 SU, 14-15 ATS) is one of the top candidates to knock off Golden State for the NBA title.

The two powers meet tonight at Oracle Arena as the Warriors are riding a four-game winning streak following Monday’s 116-108 home triumph over the Timberwolves. Stephen Curry shot lights out by drilling seven three-pointers and scoring 38, while Golden State knocked down 19 treys. Although the Warriors improved to 12-2 at home, Steve Kerr’s team didn’t cover as 9 ½-point favorites, and fell to 1-4 ATS in the past five games at Oracle Arena.

The Raptors head to the Bay Area with no rest after blowing out the Clippers, 123-99 last night. Kawhi Leonard sat out for Toronto, but the Raptors’ offense didn’t struggle as they shot 52% from the floor and hit 14 three-pointers. Serge Ibaka led Toronto with 25 points, while Kyle Lowry rebounded from a scoreless effort against Milwaukee to put up 21 points and seven assists.

Toronto held off Golden State in their previous meeting in overtime on November 29 at Scotiabank Arena, 131-128. The Warriors cashed as 9 ½-point underdogs with Curry sidelined, but Kevin Durant posted one of the top games of his career with 51 points. Leonard paced the Raptors with 37 points as Toronto snapped an eight-game losing streak to Golden State that dated back to January 2015.

                              Thunder Road

Following an 0-4 start, Oklahoma City (17-8 SU, 15-10 ATS) has stormed back to take control of the Northwest division. The Thunder has won five of their last six games, including Monday’s 122-113 home triumph over the Jazz in a playoff rematch from last season. Oklahoma City led by 24 points heading into the fourth quarter prior to a Utah rally, but Paul George continued his solid play of late by scoring 31 points on 8-of-10 shooting.

The Thunder travels to New Orleans to face the Pelicans (14-15 SU, 13-16 ATS), who own a solid 10-4 record at Smoothie King Center. The Pelicans have alternated wins and losses in nine consecutive games, coming off a 113-100 setback at Boston on Monday. New Orleans dropped a 122-116 decision at Oklahoma City in its first matchup back in early November, as Pelicans’ forward Julius Randle put together an impressive 10-of-10 effort from the floor for 26 points in the defeat.

                              King it On

Sacramento (14-12 SU, 16-10 ATS) is halfway to cashing its season win total (25 ½) as the Kings continue a solid start. The Kings return home from a 3-1 road trip, which included blowout victories over Phoenix, Cleveland, and Chicago to improve to 8-7 away from Golden 1 Center. Sacramento welcomes in Minnesota as the Kings knocked off the Timberwolves, 121-110 as two-point underdogs in November.

The Wolves (13-14 SU, 15-12 ATS) are winless through their first two games of a four-game road trip which wraps up in Phoenix on Saturday. Minnesota has lost 10 of 12 contests away from Target Center, but yet the Wolves opened as a short favorite on Wednesday at Sacramento. The first two games of this road swing resulted in defeats at Portland and Golden State, although the Wolves cashed as 9 ½-point ‘dogs against the Warriors on Monday. The Wolves have fared well recently in the favorite role by going 5-1 SU/ATS in the last six opportunities.

                              Central Command

The Central Division was owned by Cleveland each of the past four seasons, but it will come down to Milwaukee and Indiana this season. Although there is still 70% of the season to be played, the Bucks and Pacers are separated by 1 ½ games heading into Wednesday’s action and likely won’t be caught by the Pistons, Cavaliers, and Bulls.

The Bucks (18-8 SU, 14-11-1 ATS) picked up consecutive wins for the first time since late November as Milwaukee knocked off Toronto and Cleveland on a back-to-back set on Sunday and Monday. Milwaukee has stepped up its defense of late by cashing four consecutive UNDERS, while limiting three opponents during this span to 99 points or less.

The Pacers (17-10 SU, 14-13 ATS) are in the midst of a seven-game UNDER streak, while picking up wins in four consecutive contests. Indiana looks to wrap up its three-game homestand perfect after beating Sacramento and Washington, as the Pacers try to avenge an earlier loss to the Bucks. Milwaukee ripped Indiana at Fiserv Forum in mid-October, 118-101 as 3 ½-point favorites, but the Pacers have won each of the last three home matchups with the Bucks.

                              Dallas Domination

The Mavericks (14-11 SU, 17-8 ATS) have taken advantage of playing at American Airlines Center by posting a terrific 12-2 home mark. Dallas rallied past Houston on Saturday, followed by a blowout of Orlando on Monday to improve to 10-0 SU/ATS in the past 10 home contests. Dallas is in a revenge spot tonight against Atlanta as the Mavericks squandered a 26-point lead in a 111-104 setback to the Hawks in late October.

Atlanta (6-20 SU, 10-16 ATS) snapped a four-game losing streak in Saturday’s 106-98 home upset of Denver for its first win in December. The road has not been kind to the Hawks, who are 2-11 on the highway, but Atlanta has cashed in five of the past eight opportunities as an away underdog. Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Hawks own a perfect 10-0 record against the Mavericks, including four straight victories at American Airlines Center.

                              First to Three

The 76ers and Nets have split a pair of matchups at Barclays Center this season, while Philadelphia got the best of Brooklyn on November 25 on a Jimmy Butler buzzer-beater. The Sixers (19-9 SU, 13-15 ATS) have won six of their past seven games, while coming off a home-and-home sweep of the Pistons. Butler is doubtful with a groin injury tonight, but Philadelphia is 4-0 SU/ATS in its last four games at Wells Fargo Center since losing to Cleveland as 13-point favorites on November 23.

The Nets (10-18 SU, 13-15 ATS) are seeking their second three-game winning streak of the season following victories over the Raptors and Knicks. Brooklyn is riding a three-game ATS hot streak, while winning three of its past five contests away from Barclays Center. The Nets have covered their first two meetings with the Sixers, as Brooklyn has cashed in five of the past seven meetings in the series since April 2017.
