Mahoning Valley Race Course - Race #9 - Post: 4:31pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,500 Class Rating: 52

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#4 SOX ON THE BEACH (ML=5/1)

SOX ON THE BEACH - Trainer Frazier gave this filly a good stiff drill. Last one was 2nd fastest of the day. Taking a class drop in class rating points from her Jan 24th race at Turfway Park. Based on that element, I will give this thoroughbred the advantage.

      Vulnerable Contenders: #8 SMARTLY (ML=3/1), #5 RUN CHUY RUN (ML=9/2), #9 TULALIP (ML=6/1),

SMARTLY - If you keep playing these sort of 'hanger' types, you're going to be let down regularly. Based on the pace scenario in this race, this equine doesn't fit in here. With a single front-runner and this horse having to race from behind, she sure has a tough assignment. RUN CHUY RUN - You believe this animal is going to win just because she's always close. Just doesn't win often. TULALIP - This mare is always hitting the board, but just doesn't finish on top. Hard to wager on her on the front end. Tough to wager on at 6/1 odds after the last two efforts.

      STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Put your money on #4 SOX ON THE BEACH on the nose if you can get odds of 1/1 or more

        # 5 NATIONAL BROWSER 9/2

        # 9 GET YOURSELF HOME 8/1

I've got to go with BYE BYE SAL. Peery has a solid win percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. Should keep the strong string of finish positions intact this time around. The Equibase Speed Fig of 79 from her latest contest looks very good in here. NATIONAL BROWSER - Should compete strongly in the pace battle which bodes well with this group. Raudales has shown excellent profits (+23 ROI ) at this distance/surface. GET YOURSELF HOME - Could best this group of animals based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 78 - of her last effort. Has recorded strong speed figures in dirt sprint races in the past.

          #2 AWE MUN (ML=5/2)
          #1 PAPPA ROX (ML=12/1)

AWE MUN - When a sprinter is back in a race less than 10 days after his last outing, it generally means he's fit. This colt is in good condition, having run a strong race on January 26th, finishing third. PAPPA ROX - The fact that this horse is entered right back into a race so quickly means he's fit and ready. Trainer, Linder, has been deliberate with this horse off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 EQUUS NOVUS (ML=2/1), #5 CAPE MAY STYLE (ML=4/1), #4 OBVIOUSLY DRAMATIC (ML=8/1),

EQUUS NOVUS - I don't normally play a morning-line choice that hasn't been to the track in the last three weeks. CAPE MAY STYLE - Doesn't look to be in a convenient situation today. OBVIOUSLY DRAMATIC - 8/1 odds isn't enough for this one when checking the most recent outings. Hasn't finished in the money in any sprint races lately. Not likely to see him doing it today either.

              # 7 STATELY COMMAND 20/1

I think WILKO LOVESONG is a strong selection and is a competitive value wager given the line. Posted a very good speed figure last time out. Win percentage under similar conditions may be the key for this mare. Greenwood is very serious with this one, wheeling her back quickly. SEVEN CHANCES - Could beat this field given the 72 Equibase Speed Figure garnered in her last outing. Solid average Equibase Speed Figures in dirt route races make this equine a solid contender. STATELY COMMAND - Win percentage one of the strongest in this group.

Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Preview and Predictions 2019-02-05

NBA Predictions 4th February 2019 by Gracenote
                by Gracenote on 02/04/2019

The Boston Celtics are surging with wins in nine of the last 10 games and outlasted one of the best teams in the Western Conference with a 134-129 home win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. The Celtics will try to avoid a letdown when they make a one-game stop to visit the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday.

Boston's lone loss in the last 10 games was a 115-111 setback to the defending champion Golden State Warriors, and the team is feeling very confident after shooting 59.3 percent from the floor and placing eight scorers in double figures in the win over the Thunder. "It says we can compete with anybody," Celtics guard Marcus Smart told reporters after the victory. "They're one of the best defenses in the league and we dropped 134 points on them." The Cavaliers no longer own the worst record in the NBA but missed out on a chance to record their first three-game winning streak of the season when they fell to the Dallas Mavericks 111-98 at home on Saturday. Rookie point guard Collin Sexton went 4-of-17 from the field in the loss and is 15-of-53 over the last four contests.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Boston, FS Ohio (Cleveland)

ABOUT THE CELTICS (34-19): Boston scored at least 31 points in each quarter on Sunday and had only one of the nine players who saw action shoot under 50 percent (Gordon Hayward, 1-of-6). "We shot the ball unreal, but we were getting really good looks," center Al Horford told reporters. "That's the difference. It wasn't like lucky shots and stuff like that. We were getting the quality shots that we look for and we just made a lot of them." All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving led the charge with 30 points on 14-of-19 shooting and added 11 assists for his fourth consecutive double-double but the team ruled him out for Tuesday due to a hip injury.

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (11-42): Cleveland's season was at first defined by the departure of superstar LeBron James and then quickly became defined by a series of injuries which left the team playing for the lottery. All-Star forward Kevin Love (foot) played in only four games before going down and is closing in on a return, but small forward Cedi Osman became the latest to hit the shelf after leaving Saturday's game with an ankle injury. Osman, who is day-to-day, put up 10 points in 14 minutes prior to his departure and averaged 24.3 points over the four previous games.

                BUZZER BEATERS

                1. Cleveland traded SG Rodney Hood to the Portland Trail Blazers for Gs Wade Baldwin IV and Nik Stauskas and two future second-round draft picks.

                2. Celtics C Aron Baynes (foot) sat out Sunday and is not expected to play Tuesday.

                3. Boston took the first two meetings by an average of 26.5 points.

                PREDICTION: Celtics 116, Cavaliers 102

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Indiana Pacers Preview and Predictions 2019-02-05

NBA Predictions 4th February 2019 by Gracenote
Lakers vs. Pacers Preview and Predictions

                  by Gracenote on 02/05/2019

Star forward LeBron James is expected to play for the second time since Christmas Day when the Los Angeles Lakers visit the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. James has missed 18 of the last 19 games because of a groin injury and Los Angeles is only 7-12 during the stretch.

James returned for Thursday's 123-120 win over the Los Angeles Clippers and had 24 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists and admitted afterward that watching games isn't his forte. "That's the frustration part - when you see your team struggle and you know you can help them and you can't do anything in a suit and tie," James told reporters. "That's when the negativity starts to creep in your mind." The Pacers lost four straight games after losing star guard Victor Oladipo to a season-ending knee injury but have bounced back with consecutive wins over the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans. "We're still transitioning without Vic," point guard Darren Collison said in a postgame television interview after Monday's 109-107 victory over the host Pelicans. "We're still trying to figure it out. There are going to some growing pains. It's not always going to be pretty."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles), FS Indiana

ABOUT THE LAKERS (27-26): There is a lot of uncertainty hanging over the roster after the Los Angeles Times reported Monday that Los Angeles has offered six players and two first-round draft choices to the New Orleans Pelicans in its bid to land star big man Anthony Davis. The Times reported that point guards Lonzo Ball and Rajon Rondo, young forwards Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma and journeymen Lance Stephenson and Michael Beasley were offered to the Pelicans for Davis and forward Solomon Hill. Kuzma has been hindered by a hip injury for nearly two weeks and he is listed as probable to play against the Pacers.

ABOUT THE PACERS (34-19): Collison has picked up some of the scoring slack created by Oladipo's injury, scoring 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting against New Orleans for his second straight 20-point effort. "He's having to carry a little bit more load since the absence of Victor," Indiana coach Nate McMillan said during his postgame media session. "He's capable of doing that. He made some big shots. He's the guy we have gone to late in games as far as putting the ball in his hands." The Pacers are hoping to rely more on veteran guard Tyreke Evans but he is 4-of-19 shooting over the past two games after missing three contests with a back injury.

                  BUZZER BEATERS

                  1. The Pacers have won their past five home games against the Lakers.

                  2. Ingram has scored 20 or more points in five of the past seven contests.

                  3. Indiana SF Doug McDermott (ribs) will miss his third straight game.

                  PREDICTION: Pacers 112, Lakers 106

LA Clippers vs. Charlotte Hornets Preview and Predictions 2019-02-05

NBA Predictions 4th February 2019 by Gracenote
                    by Gracenote on 02/04/2019

The Charlotte Hornets are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference - as long as they're playing in their own arena. The Hornets will try to push their home winning streak to six in a row and pull over .500 overall when they host the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday.

Charlotte sits at 7-18 on the road but is 19-8 at home after knocking off Memphis and Chicago in the first two of a three-game homestand. "I think you're seeing the character rebuild right before us right now," Hornets coach James Borrego told reporters after watching his team recover from a fourth-quarter deficit to down the Bulls 125-118 on Saturday. "(We) got down early again, and I think our guys were competing early. They were trying. The effort was there. We were making shots. The spirit was right. The competitiveness was right." The Clippers got off to a fine start on their six-game road trip with a win at Detroit on Saturday but could not handle one of the top teams in the East on the second of a back-to-back with an afternoon start and dropped a 121-103 decision at Toronto on Sunday. "I don't complain a lot about scheduling," Los Angeles coach Doc Rivers told reporters. "This one, right when we saw it, it's ridiculous."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), FS Southeast (Charlotte)

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (29-25): Los Angeles, which visits Indiana, Boston and Minnesota to round out the trip, is clinging to the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference and dropped three of its last four games. The Clippers fell to the Atlanta Hawks and the Lakers before embarking on the trip and allowed at least 121 points in each of those three setbacks. Reserve shooting guard Lou Williams seemed immune to the short turnaround with 18 points in 21 minutes on Sunday and is doing his best to pull the team out of the funk while averaging 25.5 points over the last four contests.

ABOUT THE HORNETS (26-26): All-Star guard Kemba Walker is carrying the team and scored 15 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter on Saturday while adding 10 assists. Finding secondary scoring is the big challenge for Charlotte, but second-year guard Malik Monk is stepping up of late and scored 18 points against the Bulls - his fourth straight game scoring in double figures. "He's a very confident kid," Borrego told reporters of Monk. "I think what's special and what will continue to be special about him is the fourth-quarter confidence, swagger if you want to call it that. That he's not afraid of the moment, he's willing to take the big shot, make the big play. ... The kid is turning the corner and I don't want to be satisfied with this. I want him to keep going, keep growing, but we're seeing the effects of what Malik can do for our ball club."

                    BUZZER BEATERS

                    1. Hornets SF Nicolas Batum is 14-of-25 from the floor over the last three games.

                    2. Clippers SF Danilo Gallinari (back) missed the last nine games but is expected to join the team at some point on the road trip.

                    3. Los Angeles earned a 128-109 win at home over Charlotte on Jan. 8 behind 27 points and 10 assists from Williams.

                    PREDICTION: Hornets 113, Clippers 106

Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks Preview and Predictions 2019-02-05

NBA Predictions 4th February 2019 by Gracenote
                      by Gracenote on 02/04/2019

The New York Knicks look to end a 13-game losing streak when they host the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday in the front end of a home-and-home set between the teams. New York hasn't posted a victory since beating the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 4, which represents the team's lone win in the past 22 games.

The Knicks have lost 15 consecutive home games and are 0-3 on a four-game homestand after dropping a 96-84 decision to the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday. Point guard Dennis Smith Jr. made his debut with the club against the Grizzlies and had eight points and six assists in 26 minutes. The Pistons put forth one of their top efforts of the season when they rolled to a 129-103 victory over the visiting Denver Nuggets on Monday. "It was fun the way we played," Detroit coach Dwane Casey said during his postgame press conference. "I thought we played hard and played together and that is always fun."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Detroit, MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE PISTONS (23-29): Detroit blew a 25-point lead during Sunday's 111-101 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers when the bench was outscored 80-17. It was a totally different result against the Nuggets as the Pistons held a 60-28 edge on bench points and received 21 points from forward Stanley Johnson, 18 from guard Langston Galloway and 14 from guard Luke Kennard. "Our bench was huge," Casey said afterward. "If we get that from them every night, we're not out of the playoff race. We're in the middle of the pack somewhere. We need to have a consistent approach every night."

ABOUT THE KNICKS (10-42): New York owns the worst record in the NBA but is one of the few teams with a chance to acquire New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis prior to Thursday's trading deadline. Davis reportedly is willing to sign a long-term extension with the Knicks should he be sent to the club but perhaps the biggest obstacle is that New York might not have the pieces to make such a deal after trading injured star Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks in the deal to land Smith. Center DeAndre Jordan also was acquired in the Dallas trade and had 12 points and 12 rebounds in his team debut Sunday.

                      BUZZER BEATERS

                      1. PF Blake Griffin scored 30 points as the Pistons notched a 115-108 victory over the visiting Knicks on Nov. 27.

                      2. Detroit C Andre Drummond scored a season-best 27 points against Denver and also collected 12 rebounds for his fifth straight double-double.

                      3. New York C Mitchell Robinson (illness) is expected to return after a one-game absence.

                      PREDICTION: Pistons 111, Knicks 106

Magic vs. Thunder Preview and Predictions

                        by Gracenote on 02/04/2019

The Oklahoma City Thunder look to start a new winning streak when they host the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. Oklahoma City had a seven-game winning streak halted Sunday, when it fell 134-129 to the host Boston Celtics.

Thunder All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook has rattled off six straight triple-doubles and has 19 on the season after recording 22 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds in the loss to Boston. Westbrook and All-Star forward Paul George have fueled the offense to a high level of play as the squad had topped 120 points in nine of the last 12 contests. Orlando posted back-to-back victories over the Indiana Pacers and Brooklyn Nets after losing seven of its previous eight games. "You have to play good to win games, and it's that simple," Magic shooting guard Evan Fournier told reporters of his club's quest to get back into the playoff mix. "We just have to play this way for the remainder of the season, no matter who is in front of us."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Florida, FS Oklahoma

ABOUT THE MAGIC (22-31): Fournier saw good signs from his squad during Saturday's 102-89 win over the Nets, namely that the lapses that frequently hurt Orlando were nowhere to be found. "I thought the focus was better and it felt like we played with a purpose for 48 minutes," Fournier told reporters."In previous games, we've had good stretches and then for five or six minutes we're just not doing the things that we should do - not playing the right way and forgetting assignments - but I thought the focus was really good." All-Star center Nikola Vucevic had 24 points and 12 rebounds against Brooklyn for his fourth straight double-double and 36th of the season.

ABOUT THE THUNDER (33-19): Defensive issues cost Oklahoma City in the loss to Boston as the Celtics shot 59.3 percent from the field and topped 30 points in every quarter. "There were times we did a good job and times we didn't," Thunder coach Billy Donovan told reporters. "I didn't think we did it long enough and well enough over a 48-minute period. Every time we got close, they made some really, really good plays, made some big shots. You have to give them credit too. I think our defense wasn't nearly what it has been and can be and should be for us." George scored 37 points and has topped 30 in seven of the past eight games while averaging 34.3 points during the stretch.

                        BUZZER BEATERS

                        1. The Thunder won 12 of the past 15 meetings, including a 126-117 road win on Jan. 29.

                        2. Oklahoma City backup G Dennis Schroder scored 16 points against Boston and reached double digits in eight straight games.

                        3. Orlando rookie C Mo Bamba (leg) could return after a one-game absence while SF Jonathon Simmons (abdominal) could miss his third straight game.

                        PREDICTION: Thunder 121, Magic 107

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies Preview and Predictions 2019-02-05

                          by Gracenote on 02/04/2019

The Minnesota Timberwolves' only win in the last four games came at home against the Grizzlies on Wednesday and they will try to turn the same trick when they visit Memphis on Tuesday. The Timberwolves are kicking off a three-game road trip at Memphis that will see them play three games in four nights.

Minnesota came out on top in a close one against the Grizzlies, earning a 99-97 victory in overtime on Wednesday, but was on the other end on Saturday as Luol Deng's 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark in a 107-106 loss to the Denver Nuggets. "It's so hard, after battling that hard, to come up short like that," Timberwolves veteran forward Taj Gibson told reporters. "So tough." Memphis knows all about tough times with losses in 17 of the last 20 games but at least comes into Tuesday's rematch with some momentum after finishing up the three-game road trip with a 96-84 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday. The Grizzlies got back to doing what they do best and locked down on the defensive end, holding the Knicks to 38.4 percent shooting while forcing 16 turnovers.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS North-Plus (Minnesota), FS Southeast (Memphis)

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (25-27): All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns did his part with 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting, 12 rebounds and seven assists on Saturday but did not get much help from swingman Andrew Wiggins, who finished with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting in 35 minutes. Wiggins, a former No. 1 overall pick, is 8-of-29 from the floor over the last two games, including 1-of-8 from beyond the arc. Veteran point guard Jerryd Bayless is trying to pick up some of the slack and recorded his second consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 assists against the Nuggets.

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (21-33): Memphis is coming up to the trade deadline on Thursday with the future of several key players up in the air after the organization let it be known last month that veterans Mike Conley and Marc Gasol were on the market. Both veterans showed off their value in Sunday's triumph, with Conley collecting 25 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals and Gasol adding 24 points and nine boards. Fellow veteran Justin Holiday, who was already traded once this season when he came over from the Chicago Bulls, added 19 points in the victory.

                          BUZZER BEATERS

                          1. Grizzlies SF Kyle Anderson (shoulder) sat out the last two games and is day-to-day.

                          2. Timberwolves PG Jeff Teague (foot) missed the last six games and remains questionable.

                          3. The teams split the first two meetings - both in Minnesota.

                          PREDICTION: Grizzlies 95, Timberwolves 92

Raptors vs. 76ers Preview and Predictions

                            by Gracenote on 02/04/2019

Two of the better teams in the Eastern Conference square off when the Toronto Raptors visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. The Raptors are in second place in the East behind the Milwaukee Bucks while the 76ers aren't far off the pace after winning seven of their past 10 games.

Toronto dropped three of four games before rebounding with a 121-103 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. The Raptors will be looking to see All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard bounce back after he failed to reach the 20-point mark in back-to-back games - including 18 points against the Clippers. Philadelphia is opening a four-game homestand and aiming to recover from a 115-108 road loss to the Sacramento Kings. "It was one of those games where they kept throwing punches," 76ers point guard Ben Simmons told reporters. "We didn't respond the right way."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT, TSN (Toronto), NBCS Philadelphia

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (38-16): All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry (back) sat out against the Clippers to once again raise concerns about his health. Lowry missed 10 of 11 games in a three-week stretch earlier this season due to an aching back and Toronto is hoping the latest issue is just a quick flare-up. Fred VanVleet started against Los Angeles and had nine points, seven assists and three steals against two turnovers in 26 minutes of action.

ABOUT THE 76ERS (34-19): All-Star center Joel Embiid registered 29 points and 17 rebounds in the loss to Sacramento for his fifth straight double-double and he is averaging 29.6 points and 16.2 rebounds during the stretch. Embiid is averaging 22.7 points and 11.3 rebounds in three games against the Raptors this season but equaled his season low of 10 points on 5-of-17 shooting in a 113-102 loss to Dec. 5. Small forward Jimmy Butler scored 29 points against the Kings after having just seven on 3-of-12 shooting two nights earlier against the Golden State Warriors.

                            BUZZER BEATERS

                            1. The Raptors won two of this season's three meetings but the 76ers rolled to a 126-101 win on Dec. 22 when the teams met in Philadelphia.

                            2. Philadelphia SG JJ Redick, who made at least three 3-point baskets in nine of his last 10 appearances, will return to the lineup after being held out for rest against the Kings.

                            3. Toronto PF Serge Ibaka has recorded a career-best six straight double-doubles, the franchise's best such streak since Chris Bosh had eight straight in 2009.

                            PREDICTION: 76ers 108, Raptors 105

Miami Heat vs. Portland Trail Blazers Preview and Predictions 2019-02-05

The Miami Heat are stumbling with losses in three straight and seven of the last 10 games to fall into the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference. The Heat will need to solve their problems in some tough places to play as they begin a six-game road trip by visiting the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

Miami, which just dropped three straight at home, will go through Sacramento, Golden State, Denver and Dallas leading into the All-Star break before coming out of the break at Philadelphia on Feb. 21. "I don't have the exact answer; to lose three in a row at home is tough," veteran guard Dwyane Wade told reporters after a 95-88 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. "It's a lot of things. You have got to figure it out. I told the guys in the locker room it doesn't get any easier. This road trip is the toughest stretch of the season. We have to figure out a way to get out of frustration and play free of the mind." The Trail Blazers are winners of three in a row and six of seven and should be well-rested after last taking the floor in a 132-105 home drubbing of the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. ABOUT THE HEAT (24-27): Miami fell by 16 points to lowly Chicago to open the homestand on Wednesday and was rocked 118-102 by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday before falling to Indiana the next night. "You are constantly searching and digging and grinding for solutions and that's where we are right now," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters after the latest loss. "I want everybody to get away from this building (Sunday). There are always ebbs and flows of a season. We have not played well for three games. But we have a great opportunity to get our act together and game together and get comfortable again. There is no better place to do that than the road." Miami center Hassan Whiteside went 9-of-13 from the floor on Saturday but the rest of the starters were a combined 7-of-22.

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (32-20): Portland point guard Damian Lillard will be taking the floor for the first time since being named to his fourth All-Star team on Thursday. "Damian is a special player and person," Trail Blazers president of basketball operations Neil Olshey told reporters. "Being recognized by the coaches who prepare to play against him validates what all of us in Portland have the privilege of experiencing every day as a leader in the locker room and on the court." Lillard sat out the first of the four-game homestand against Atlanta on Jan. 26 to rest a sore knee but returned against Utah on Wednesday and collected 36 points and 11 assists in 37 minutes.

                              2. The Trail Blazers acquired SG Rodney Hood from the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday in exchange for Gs Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV and two second-round draft picks.

                              3. Portland suffered a 120-111 loss at Miami despite 42 points from Lillard on Oct. 27.
