Chicago Bulls vs. Atlanta Hawks Preview and Predictions 2019-03-01

NBA Predictions 28th February 2019 by Gracenote
    by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

The Atlanta Hawks and the Chicago Bulls missed the memo that told rebuilding teams to turn their attention toward getting the best odds at the draft lottery and instead are putting together solid runs bridging the All-Star break. Each team will be looking to post back-to-back wins when the Hawks host the Bulls on Friday.

Atlanta won two of its last three games - with the lone loss an eight-point setback at Houston - and is riding the young tandem of Trae Young and John Collins to wins. The two combined for 70 points and 16 rebounds while Young handed out 10 assists in a 131-123 overtime triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday as the Hawks further separated themselves from the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Chicago, which sits four games behind Atlanta in the East, is trying to pull away from the basement as well and picked up wins in four of the last five games, with the lone loss coming to the NBA-best Milwaukee Bucks. The Bulls, who host the Hawks in the second half of the home-and-home on Sunday, bounced back from the loss against the Bucks by opening their two-game road trip with a 109-107 triumph at Memphis on Wednesday.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago, FS Southeast (Atlanta)

ABOUT THE BULLS (17-45): Chicago small forward Otto Porter Jr. returned to the lineup on Wednesday after missing one game with a strained left leg and collected 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting with six rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks in 32 minutes. "He settles us down," Bulls coach Jim Boylen told reporters of Porter. "He's poised, he makes a big shot when we need it, he gets a big steal in a gap; he got two gap steals that changed that fourth quarter. We're thankful for him." Chicago is 5-2 in games Porter has played since he arrived in a trade from the Washington Wizards.

ABOUT THE HAWKS (21-41): Young racked up a season-high 36 points in each of the last two games and did it in a different way each time. Against the Rockets, Young showed off his Stephen Curry-like range and drained 8-of-12 3-pointers while against the Timberwolves Young hit just two 3-pointers but attacked the paint and ended up 16-of-17 from the free-throw line. Collins leads the team in scoring at an average of 19.5 points while shooting 56.9 percent and went a combined 20-of-31 from the floor over the last two contests.

    BUZZER BEATERS

    1. Bulls PF Lauri Markkanen recorded a double-double in each of the last four games.

    2. Hawks SF DeAndre' Bembry collected 16 points and 14 rebounds off the bench on Wednesday for his first double-double since Oct. 24.

    3. The visiting team took each of the last four in the series, including Chicago's 97-85 win at Atlanta on Oct. 27.

    PREDICTION: Hawks 120, Bulls 117

Charlotte Hornets vs. Brooklyn Nets Preview and Predictions 2019-03-01

NBA Predictions 28th February 2019 by Gracenote
      by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

The Charlotte Hornets are playing their way out of the top eight in the Eastern Conference and failed to take advantage of a four-game homestand coming out the All-Star break. The Hornets will try to get things turned around on the road when they visit one of the teams in front of them in the standings at the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.

Charlotte entered play on Thursday just a half-game ahead of the ninth-place Orlando Magic after dropping the final three of the homestand, including a 117-115 loss to the Nets on Saturday. "We just have to keep chipping away," Hornets coach James Borrego told reporters. "We can't hang our heads. We're battling against the top teams right now. We're giving ourselves a chance. We felt like we gave one away at home here (Saturday) night against Brooklyn. We battled against two tough teams (Golden State on Monday and Houston on Wednesday). We're right there. We just have to stay with it - don't hang our heads, move on to the next game, get better, just keep pounding away and this thing will turn in our direction." The Nets sit in the No. 6 spot in the East despite dropping a 125-116 decision at home to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. "Whatever 'it' is, we didn't have it tonight," Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters. "It was a lack of sharpness. Games like this happen in the NBA, but I didn't like the way it happened. ... It was nine points, but it really was a 20-point or 25-point loss the way it feels."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Charlotte), YES (New York)

ABOUT THE HORNETS (28-33): Charlotte dropped seven of its last nine games bridging the All-Star break despite the continued strong play of All-Star guard Kemba Walker. Walker went for 35 points on 12-of-22 shooting on Wednesday in the 118-113 loss to the Rockets while trying to guard the likes of Chris Paul and James Harden at the other end of the floor. "Kemba understands he has to play on two ends of the floor," Borrego told reporters after the loss. "For us to even compete in this game he's going to have to guard and he did tonight. It's taxing. Then he has to create on the other end for us every single possession. That's taxing. We're asking a lot of him and if it comes down to the stretch, that's how it goes but he's battling. He's giving us everything he has out there."

ABOUT THE NETS (32-31): Brooklyn allowed the Wizards to race out to a lead early on Friday and recognized the lack of focus and urgency. "We came out unprepared, just mentally unfocused," center Jarrett Allen told reporters. "You could tell our energy wasn't there, and our minds weren't either." One exception was All-Star point guard D'Angelo Russell, who scored 28 points on 9-of-16 shooting in the setback and is averaging 30.3 points over the last three contests.

      BUZZER BEATERS

      1. Hornets C Cody Zeller is 17-of-20 from the floor over the last two games.

      2. Nets SG Caris LeVert went scoreless on 0-of-5 shooting Wednesday.

      3. Brooklyn took two of the first three meetings, including a 134-132 overtime victory at home on Dec. 26.

      PREDICTION: Nets 125, Hornets 120

Washington Wizards vs. Boston Celtics Preview and Predictions 2019-03-01

NBA Predictions 28th February 2019 by Gracenote
        by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

The Boston Celtics are in the midst of a four-game slide but at least looked like the effort was improving in the latest setback. The Celtics will try to find some common ground and get back in the win column when they host the Washington Wizards on Friday.

Veteran guard Marcus Smart told reporters Boston was "just not together" after a 118-95 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday but the team was singing a different tune after the 97-92 setback to the Portland Trail Blazers at home the following night. "I think our guys really wanted to play the right way, make certain shots, do certain things," center Al Horford told reporters. "But I just appreciated the effort. Guys were playing hard, trying to do the right things. We just didn't make enough plays to win." The Wizards snapped a four-game slide with a 125-116 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday but sit 11 games below .500 and three games behind the Charlotte Hornets for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference. Washington is playing its sixth straight game against a team in the top eight of the East and is 1-4 so far in that span.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCS Washington, NBCS Boston

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (25-36): All-Star guard Bradley Beal is doing everything he can to drag Washington to victories and is averaging 34.4 points over the last five contests. Beal went 12-of-22 from the floor in Wednesday's win and is shooting 58 percent in three games since the break. "I just want to win - whatever it looks like," Beal told reporters. "Sometimes it's going to involve me scoring 30-plus and some nights I won't have to. So, whatever it looks like, I want to go out there and get it done. ... I've just got to continue to get better. I'm super confident right now in my game and I'm just trying to make the playoffs."

ABOUT THE CELTICS (37-25): Boston scored fewer than 100 points in three of the last four contests and went 5-of-28 from 3-point range in Wednesday's loss. "Today was good. I mean, it sucks we didn't - we didn't shoot the ball well, but that's part of it," Celtics coach Brad Stevens told reporters. "I thought that - I actually just told the guys, like, you walk out of here a little bit more encouraged because the reason we lost, if anything, was we didn't make shots and I think it was because we were pressing." All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving was immune to the shooting struggles and scored 31 points on 14-of-24 shooting - 3-of-5 from 3-point range - in the setback.

        BUZZER BEATERS

        1. Celtics PG Terry Rozier (knee) sat out Wednesday but is probable for Friday.

        2. Wizards SF Trevor Ariza recorded his third double-double since joining the team in December with 23 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday.

        3. Three of the last four meetings went to overtime, including Boston's 130-125 win at Washington in the first matchup this season on Dec. 12.

        PREDICTION: Celtics 113, Wizards 112

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Toronto Raptors Preview and Predictions 2019-03-01

NBA Predictions 28th February 2019 by Gracenote
          by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

The streaking Portland Trail Blazers look to increase their winning streak to six games when they visit the Toronto Raptors on Friday. Portland is also 4-0 to start a seven-game road trip, a stretch that includes Wednesday's 97-92 victory over the Boston Celtics.

The Trail Blazers also have beaten the Philadelphia 76ers during the excursion as they continue to put together good efforts on both ends of the floor. "We're playing together offensively. Defensively, we've been sharp," star point guard Damian Lillard told reporters after the win over Boston. "We're getting it from everybody on both ends of the floor and just being consistent. When you get that type of consistent effort from multiple guys - everybody in the rotation - this is what it looks like." Toronto posted a 118-95 home win over Boston on Tuesday to finish off an 8-1 month with a strong rebound from Sunday's 113-98 loss to the Orlando Magic. "It's always great to come in and bounce back and get a win," Raptors small forward Kawhi Leonard told reporters. "I keep saying this, but it's just about us and what we need to do to get better as a team."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, NBCS Northwest (Portland), Sportsnet One (Toronto)

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (38-23): Forward Maurice Harkless had season highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds against Boston and scored in double digits in four of the past five games. Harkless has been slowed by an injury to his left knee - he had surgery in March of 2018 - and said he is just now regaining his top form. "It's been a tough year, dating back to last year when I got hurt," Harkless told reporters. "It's been a battle. It's been up-and-down. It's been frustrating at times. But I just stuck with it, I'm continuing to stick with it, and it just feels good to be playing and playing well."

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (45-17): Leonard scored 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting against Boston after being held out against Orlando for rest. Forward Pascal Siakam continues his rapid rise and tallied 25 points against the Celtics and topped 20 points in six of the past 12 contests. Siakam had four of Toronto's 17 3-pointers - the Raptors' season high is 18 - and reserve small forward Norman Powell made three off the bench while scoring 11 points.

          BUZZER BEATERS

          1. Eight Trail Blazers scored in double digits during a 128-122 home win over the Raptors on Dec. 14.

          2. Toronto PG Kyle Lowry recorded 11 assists against Boston and has been in double digits in four of the last seven games.

          3. Portland swingman Evan Turner (knee) will miss his fourth straight game and C Enes Kanter (immigration issues) didn't make the trip.

PREDICTION: Raptors 116, Trail Blazers 112

Pelicans vs. Suns Preview and Predictions

            by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

The Anthony Davis saga continues to hang over the New Orleans Pelicans as they arrive in Phoenix for Friday's game against the Suns. Davis is on a minutes' restriction and playing approximately 20 per game and has been sitting on the bench during the fourth quarter of close games.

New Orleans lost 13 of its last 19 games, including Wednesday's 125-119 road setback to the Los Angeles Lakers when Davis (22 points in 21 minutes) was again a spectator with the game on the line. "I don't let anybody steal my joy," Davis told reporters afterward. "No matter what it is. When I step between those lines to play basketball, I'm happy." Phoenix had some rare enjoyment on Monday when it posted a 124-121 road win over the Miami Heat to halt a franchise-worst 17-game losing streak. "We played desperate, we played with a sense of urgency and we came not just to play - we came to win a game," Suns coach Igor Kokoskov told reporters afterward. "And I'm glad we did."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS New Orleans, FS Arizona

ABOUT THE PELICANS (27-36): Power forward Julius Randle is becoming more of a primary option with Davis playing diminished minutes and he poured in 35 points in the loss to the Lakers. "I think Julius has had a great year for us," New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters. "The way he played (Wednesday night) wasn't a surprise to anybody on our staff or our team because we have seen it before." Randle, who fell two points shy of matching his career high, topped 30 points three times in the past nine games while raising his average to 20.4.

ABOUT THE SUNS (12-50): Standout shooting guard Devin Booker is questionable for the contest after leaving Thursday's practice with a sprained big toe on his left foot. Booker registered 20 points and nine assists in the victory over Miami, a contest in which the Suns tallied 72 points in the second half. "It's been a long time coming," reserve guard Troy Daniels told reporters. "We've just been working every day trying to get better, pushing each other and calling each other out. We were able to come out and get a win. It's a great feeling."

            BUZZER BEATERS

            1. The Pelicans won the past seven meetings, including a 119-99 home victory on Nov. 10.

            2. Phoenix C Deandre Ayton posted 14 points and 10 rebounds against the Heat for his 32nd double-double of the season.

            3. New Orleans G Kenrich Williams is just 9-of-32 shooting over the past four games.

LA Clippers vs. Sacramento Kings Preview and Predictions 2019-03-01

NBA Predictions 28th February 2019 by Gracenote
              by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

The Los Angeles Clippers are looking to post their 13th consecutive victory in Sacramento when they visit the Kings on Friday. Los Angeles, which hasn't lost in Sacramento since March 19, 2013, is also looking to complete a four-game season sweep of the Kings.

The Clippers are two games ahead of the Kings for the final Western Conference playoff spot after falling 111-105 to the host Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Los Angeles has helped Sacramento move into contention by going 6-7 over its last 13 games and the team is also adjusting to the trade of leading scorer Tobias Harris at the trading deadline. Sacramento will be without impressive rookie forward Marvin Bagley III after he was diagnosed with a sprained left knee on Thursday. Bagley suffered the injury during Wednesday's 141-140 overtime home loss to the Milwaukee Bucks and is expected to miss up to two weeks.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), NBCS California (Sacramento)

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (34-29): Los Angeles shot just 39.4 percent from the field - including 5 of 26 from 3-point range - in the loss to Utah as reserve guard Lou Williams (5-of-18) and forward Danilo Gallinari (3-of-14) both lacked their usual touch despite scoring 18 points apiece. "We just went dry," Williams told reporters. "We missed a lot of opportunities that we usually will make, shots that we can usually make with our eyes closed." Backup power forward Montrezl Harrell is shooting well after scoring 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and he has made 35-of-48 shots over the past four contests.

ABOUT THE KINGS (31-30): Bagley put together three straight double-doubles before departing the game against Milwaukee with nine points and seven rebounds after injuring the knee when he collided with Bucks' pick-setting guard Malcolm Brogdon. Bagley was down on the court for several minutes before being helped to his feet and the diagnosis of a sprain was revealed after he underwent an MRI exam on Thursday. "He's 19 years old and he has a lot of basketball in front of him," shooting guard Buddy Hield told reporters after Wednesday's loss. "We have to be cautious with him."

              BUZZER BEATERS

              1. The Clippers won the past eight meetings.

              2. Hield scored 32 points against Milwaukee for his third 30-point outing in 10 games.

              3. Los Angeles PG Patrick Beverley had 12 points and 10 rebounds against Utah for his sixth double-double of the season.

              PREDICTION: Kings 117, Clippers 110

Bucks vs. Lakers Preview and Predictions

                by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James battle on the same floor when the NBA-best Milwaukee Bucks visit the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Antetokounmpo is one of the leading candidates for MVP honors while James is trying to guide the Lakers to the playoffs in his first season with the team.

James recorded 33 points and 10 assists in Wednesday's 125-119 home win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The victory was just the fifth in the past 15 games for the Lakers, who haven't won consecutive games since Jan. 15 (Chicago) and 17 (Oklahoma City). The Bucks have won six straight games and 18 of their past 20 after posting a 141-140 overtime road win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, when Antetokounmpo (knee) was limited to 24 minutes. "He feels good," Milwaukee coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters afterward. "It's not just about the pain or what he's feeling today. It's how are we going to have him healthy, have him fresh, have him feeling good going forward. Sometimes you just have to maybe put a little money in the bank."

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee), Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE BUCKS (47-14): Antetokounmpo missed Monday's game against the Chicago Bulls because of the knee injury and produced 17 points and seven rebounds in his limited action against Sacramento. Eric Bledsoe stepped up with 26 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds for his first triple-double of the season and fifth of his career and fellow guard Malcolm Brogdon added 25 points as Milwaukee staved off the Kings. "It builds a lot of confidence," Budenholzer said. "All year, we've been talking about different guys can step up and make plays. For Malcolm to make a shot, for Bled to make all the big plays he did, it speaks well for us going forward."

ABOUT THE LAKERS (30-31): James has been frustrated with the club's recent struggles but everybody's mood was better after the win over the Pelicans. Los Angeles had 37 assists on 49 made baskets - point guard Rajon Rondo recorded a season-best 16 assists - and forwards Brandon Ingram (23 points) and Kyle Kuzma (22) were also sharp. James is averaging 11 assists over the past three games and reached double digits in five of the last eight contests.

                BUZZER BEATERS

                1. The Bucks won the past three meetings.

                2. Milwaukee has won nine straight road games, matching the third-longest streak in franchise history.

                3. Los Angeles reserve SG Lance Stephenson (sprained toe) departed the New Orleans game and could sit out Friday.

                PREDICTION: Bucks 132, Lakers 117

Kent St. Golden Flashes vs. Bowling Green Falcons Preview and Predictions 2019-03-01

NCAAB Predictions 27th February 2019 By Charles Jay for Scores And Stats
by Charles Jay Scores & Stats on 02/27/2019

The Bowling Green Falcons may have to go back to the drawing board in some respects, after losing their second straight game, which also happened to be a rare home defeat. What was especially alarming is that they had every reason to be charged up for their last game against Miami of Ohio, but still looked flat.

The Kent State Golden Flashes are a team that is seeking some revenge for an earlier loss - and a decisive one at that - against Bowling Green the first time around. But they will be trying to pay back the Falcons in their own backyard.

This Friday night Mid-American Conference game takes place at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio.

ABOUT KENT STATE: Defensively, the Golden Flashes did not do such a tremendous job against an Ohio team without a lot of firepower but came away from Tuesday night's game with a 78-73 victory at the Memorial A&C Center. The Bobcats shot 53% from the field, and their shooting display was very unusual for them. Kent State was paced by Jaylin Walker, who had 23 points, and Jalen Avery, who recently came back from an injury, played 28 minutes without a turnover (NOT all that unusual). Rob Senderoff's team shot 44%, and on 21 shots they missed, they were able to grab an offensive rebound. Reserve forward Akiean Frederick had eight of those on his own. Kent State moves to 20-8 straight-up (9-6 in the MAC) and the non-cover (they were a 7.5-point favorite) makes them 13-13 against the number. The Flashes are a lot like Bowling Green, in the sense that they are pretty careful with the ball, turning it over on less than 17% of their possessions. But it's not likely that Kent State will repeat its performance on the offensive glass against Ohio, as Bowling Green is 18th in the nation in Defensive Rebounding Percentage. Walker, the team's leading scorer (21.4 ppg), who has played 92.5% of the available minutes, second in Conference USA, will be looking to redeem himself for a lackluster offensive effort in the first meeting with Bowling Green, as he had just eleven points.

ABOUT BOWLING GREEN: It was bad news all around for the Falcons as they found themselves on the wrong end of a sweep at the hands of Miami of Ohio on Tuesday night, falling 82-69 in a game in which Bowling Green just didn't seem to get out to the perimeter enough to contest shots. The RedHawks shot a phenomenal 15 of 33 from downtown, and BGSU should have seen that coming, as Miami hoists up a very high percentage of its shots from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Bowling Green, which is usually pretty good from long range (nearly 37%), shot a mediocre 8-for-28 in its three-point attempts. "We weren't focused. We weren't intense, and weren't ready to play on the defensive end," said head coach Michael Huger. That's true enough, but you can't put too much fault at the feet of Demajeo Wiggins, who had 14 points and eleven rebounds and does not shoot triples. Antwon Lillard did very little, with three points, all on free throws. One has to ask why Bowling Green would toss 28 treys up when they have the capability to exert some muscle on the inside. But their two-point percentage (48.3%) doesn't indicate that they have been able to do good work when they eschew the three-pointer. They are now 19-9 straight-up (11-4 in MAC play) and 15-10-1 against the spread, and obviously, after losing consecutive games to Ohio and Miami of Ohio as a favorite, there is some re-evaluation that needs to take place.

                  EXTRA POINTS

                  1. Tuesday's loss was only the second - against 13 victories - for Bowling Green at the Stroh Center, where they are 9-3-1 against the spread.

                  2. The previous meeting took place on January 5 at Kent, with Bowling Green pulling away for an 86-64 win behind 48% shooting. Justin Turner had 20 points for the Falcons, and Demajeo Wiggins had 19 points and 14 rebounds.

                  3. It's going to be "Senior Night" as it is the last home game for Bowling Green this season. Prior to Friday night's game, seniors De Andre' Austin, Austin Gardner, Antwon Lillard, Demajeo Wiggins, and Jeffrey Uju will be honored.

PREDICTION: Bowling Green 75, Kent State 73

Buffalo Bulls vs. Miami (OH) Red Hawks Preview and Predictions 2019-03-01

NCAAB Predictions 28th February 2019 by Gracenote
                    by Gracenote on 02/28/2019

CJ Massinburg and Nick Perkins are putting No. 23 Buffalo, which plays a Mid-American Conference game at Miami (Ohio) on Friday, on their backs as they try to finish their careers in dominating fashion. The two four-year seniors have the Bulls one win shy of an unbeaten season at home but first comes their final two road games, including a date with the RedHawks.

Massinburg and Perkins, who have led the Bulls to 89 wins in their four seasons - 52 in the last two campaigns, were at their individual best Tuesday as Buffalo outlasted Akron for its 25th straight home win. The duo, who have combined for 3,512 points, 1,497 rebounds and 379 assists, had 48 points, 15 boards and eight helpers against Akron, the third time this season they each scored 20 or more points in the same game. By virtue of the win, coach Nate Oats, who was named one of the 15 candidates for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, owns the highest winning percentage (67.9) in school history,. The RedHawks and Nike Sibande have alternated between wins and losses over the last eight games and are coming off a victory over Bowling Green on Tuesday that widened Buffalo's lead in the MAC East Division to two games.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network

ABOUT BUFFALO (25-3, 13-2 MAC): Jayvon Graves made several key plays in the win over Akron, including a block and a subsequent dunk that kick-started a late run for the Bulls that put the game away. The sophomore stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks and received Buffalo's Blue Collar Award for the third time in the last five contests. "It was a really big momentum swing," Massinburg told the media of Graves' block and dunk. "They called a timeout and we got the guys together and were like, 'It's time. Right here. This is where we go. This is where we make out run.'"

ABOUT MIAMI (15-13, 7-8): Sibande is 52 points away from becoming the 35th member of the 1,000-point club for the RedHawks but the Indianapolis native can become the first to gain entry as a sophomore. The 6-4 guard recorded his seventh 20-point game of the season and 17th of his career against Bowling Green despite shooting below 41 percent from the field for the seventh straight contest. Sibande has enjoyed three productive games against the Bulls, averaging 18.3 points and shooting a shade better than 50 percent.

                    TIP-INS

                    1. The RedHawks haven't defeated a ranked team since knocking off No. 11 Boston College in 2001 and haven't done so at home since dispatching No. 17 Temple in 2000.

                    2. Buffalo has won 10 of the last 13 meetings but has dropped the last two road games in the series, which it trails 25-19.

                    3. Massinburg (1,858 points) passed former Miami star Wally Szczerbiak to move into 20th place on the MAC's all-time scoring list and may soon become the 17th player in conference history with 1,900 career points, joining the likes of Ball State's Bonzi Wells, Miami's Ron Harper, Eastern Michigan's Earl Boykins and Central Michigan's Dan Majerle.

CAONAVO is my choice. Win percentage one of the best in this field. Peltroche will almost certainly be able to get this gelding to break out sharply for this event. Had one of the most competitive speed figures of this group in his last affair. COLONEL ANDY - Should be considered here on the basis of the numbers in the speed section alone. Figgins has a formidable 19 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. THE GREAT MCHENRY - Pickett has one of the best winning percentages in this group of horses with entries running at this distance and surface.

ONE DIRECTION SONG looks to be a quite good contender particularly if the morning line of 10/1 holds. She has been racing very well recently while recording strong speed figures. Has been running solidly lately and should be on the lead early on. This equine has some longshot angles going for her. AMAZING AUDREY - Have to assume this pony will make a good showing again this time out. The speed figure of 94 from her latest contest looks respectable in here.

THE CODE IS GRAY - Generally accepted handicapping theory - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. This horse is live today. With 'blinkers-on' this gelding should be very competitive. HELAMAN - Faced tougher in the last race at Golden Gate Fields. Based on class figures, this is a weaker group, so I will put this horse on my list of probable winners in this race. Another way to judge class is (EPS) earnings per start. This thoroughbred has the highest in the group. I think he'll be close at the finish.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 SMALL TOWN BOY (ML=4/1), #6 FULL OF GOLD (ML=6/1),

SMALL TOWN BOY - This entrant hasn't been coming close at the finish lately. FULL OF GOLD - The Brain always warns me to stay away from thoroughbreds in sprint affairs that haven't hit the board in sprint contests recently.

                            STRAIGHT WAGERS:

KINDHEARTED KOTA - In this race here, this pony has clearly shown signs that she likes the grass. Her speed figures are the highest in the field for this distance-surface. This filly is in top physical condition right now. Ended up fifth in the last race and comes back soon. Out of the money finish last time around the track at Gulfstream Park was better than it looked on paper. She improved position down the stretch and never gave up. RUCIA MORA - Don't often see a lucrative ROI like +47. This jockey/trainer pair has done well together over the last 12 months. Look at this filly's PP lines. With each event she keeps getting closer. Ranked numero uno in earnings per race. Another indication that this horse is the class of the field.

                              Vulnerable Contenders: #7 IT'S COMPLICATED (ML=8/5), #4 ABJURE (ML=3/1), #6 LET'S GO BABY (ML=9/2),

IT'S COMPLICATED - Oddsmaker's morning line of 8/5 make this thoroughbred a pass by my examination. ABJURE - This filly finished off the board on Jan 6th and wasn't close to victory last out either. When looking at today's Equibase class figure, she will have to record a much better speed figure than last time out to battle in this turf route. LET'S GO BABY - Don't think that this filly has value at 9/2 this time out.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - KINDHEARTED KOTA - At first glance the last race doesn't look that good, but upon further inspection that race fits right with this bunch.
