I know that Hyun-Jin Ryu is not going to keep pitching the way he has been pitching, but I also know that tonight is not the night I want to side against the southpaw who has been on absolute fire!
Ryu is 9-1 for the season with an ERA of 1.35. He has won each of his last 7 decisions, and stands at 7-0 with an ERA of 0.35 over his last 8 starts this year! Against the Angels, Ryu has made 3 starts and stands at 2-0 with a 0.83 ERA, as he has fanned 19 Halos in the 21-plus innings of work versus the other team from Los Angeles.
Those numbers suggest that the Angels will not be getting much going tonight, and the fact they have dropped 5 of their last 7 games heading into this one, and will be facing a Dodgers team that has won their last pair of games, and 9 of their last 11 overall does not bode well for the host Halos to get out of the gate in this set with the win.
The Angels will give the ball to rookie Griffin Canning who is 2-2 in his first season in the big leagues, but pitches this one off of a loss to Oakland in which he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in his 6 innings of work his last time out.
With Ryu in a zone right now, there is no sense in going against him tonight against a team that he has had success in the past against.
Take the Dodgers on the Run Line in their interleague series opener against the Angels in Anaheim on Monday night.
