I'll take my chances here with Washington on the -1.5 run line at Miami. Nationals won the series opener 6-1 on Tuesday and are now 6-2 in their last 8. Washington will have Pat Corbin on the mound. He's struggled here of late, but is coming off a dominant start against the Phillies, where he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits in 7 innings. You also have to factor in he's facing a pretty bad offense in Miami in this one. Marlins will send out Zac Gallen for just his second career start. Even if he pitches well, he's unlikely to go deep in this game and the Marlins bullpen is awful. Look for the Nationals to win here in a blowout. Give me Washington -1.5 (+113)!

I like the price we get on the Detroit Tigers to end an ugly five-game slide here in the middle game of a three-game set with the Texas Rangers.
The Tigers hand the ball to their ace Matthew Boyd (5-5, 3.61 ERA) who has recorded at least six Ks in each of his past seven starts. Boyd is 3-2 behind a 3.10 ERA in eight starts home at Comerica Park on the season, and while his career numbers against Texas are poor we can note that he has the current Rangers roster limited to a .216 AVG over 74 at bats.
Texas' right-hander Mike Minor (7-4, 2.52 ERA) is having a stellar year, but he's 0-2 with a 6.63 ERA in eight career appearances (two starts) against Detroit.
It's never easy to back a team on a long losing streak, but this looks like a good spot for Detroit.

The Cincinnati Reds have lost three straight and will be highly motivated for a victory Wednesday. That followed a six-game winning streak. They definitely don’t want to be swept by the Angels with another loss here Wednesday.
Considering the edge the Reds have on the mound tonight, I’ll gladly back them as an underdog here. Tanner Roark is 5-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 15 starts this season, including 4-1 with a 3.05 ERA in eight road starts. Roark has posted a 1.98 ERA in two career starts against the Angels.
Jaime Barria will be making just his second start of the season for the Angels. He is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA and no more than a fill in starter for Los Angeles. He is 2-2 with a 6.52 ERA on the season with most of his time coming from the bullpen.
The Reds are 5-1 in Roark’s last six road starts. Cincinnati is 4-1 in its last five interleague games. Bet the Reds Wednesday.

And those numbers are why I say we are getting them cheap. He also shut out the Rays in six innings in his only start against them in 2019 on June 2nd. The Mystics and Sky have a high-noon shootout scheduled Wednesday, and WNBA bettors who are balancing action and work have an opportunity to get in and out of this one in a hurry.

It’s a first-versus-worst matchup in Dallas tonight, with the league-leading Sun visiting the 2-6 Wings. Dallas is playing better basketball – outside of a recent road loss in Las Vegas (but don’t we all lose something every time we visit Sin City?) – especially at home.

The Wings picked up their first two wins of the season inside College Park Center in the middle of the month and looking back over their four home stands on the season, they own a +4.5 margin of victory versus an average pointspread of +4.12 which has led to a 3-1 ATS mark as hosts.

Dallas ranks as the No. 2 defense in the league but much of that has to do with the team’s methodical pace with the basketball. The Wings are the slowest pace in the WNBA at 91.28 and that alone limits opponents to only 64.4 field goal attempts per game. That said, Dallas has done a good job defending those looks, with foes shooting just under 41 percent per game.

Connecticut likes to get out and run, averaging a league-high 12 points of fast breaks per contest and pushing a pace of 96.16, while attempting more than 71 shots an outing. Given the size of this spread, Dallas’ strong showings at home, and the Wings’ slow-motion style limiting the Sun’s scoring chances, there’s value with the home dog Wednesday.

STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

STREAKING

Trent Thornton, Toronto Blue Jays (2-5, 4.25 ERA, $-256): The young Jays sure are taking their lumps in this rebuilding season, but there are definitely some bright spots on this roster. One of those has to be Thornton. Acquired in a trade from Houston, the right-hander is making the most of his Major League experience and is dealing right now.

Thornton has allowed just two runs in his last two starts, allowing 14 hits while striking out 14 in 13 innings pitched. The impressive part about that? Those starts came at Houston and Boston. It doesn’t get any easier for Thornton this afternoon as he takes the mound at Yankee Stadium. The Jays are currently +220 road dogs with a total of 10.

SLUMPING

Matt Strahm, San Diego Padres (2-6, 4.85 ERA, $-154): Things sure have cooled off for Strahm after a hot start to the season. The Padres’ southpaw is 0-2 in his last three starts where he has pitched to an ugly 12.08 ERA with a WHIP of 1.89. He just hasn’t been able to keep players off the bases letting them get on at a nearly .400 clip. Strahm will look to bounce back as a slight -120 road favorite in Baltimore. The total is currently 10.


SOUTHPAW SHOWDOWN

It’s a battle of left-handers as the Rangers’ Mike Minor toes the rubber in Detroit against the Tigers’ Matthew Boyd. Minor is having a career resurgence in Texas pitching to a 2.52 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP, while Boyd is breaking out for Detroit with a 3.61 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP and they should have the edge over the hitters tonight.

The Rangers hit .225 against lefties on the road, while the Tiger hit .224 against them at home. The Under 8.5 is a solid play, but a really nice play will be the Over on Boyd’s strikeout total. He has a very high 11.26 strikeout/nine innings and is facing a Rangers team that strikes out the second most in the MLB. His strikeout total is set at 6.5 tonight.
