COMPLIMENTARY WINNER
The Colorado Rockies swept a three-game series at Chase Field last month. Adding salt to the wound, they won the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-4 in 10 innings, after tying the game with a run in the ninth.
There was even a game where the Rockies' top-ranked offense humiliated ace Zack Greinke, tonight's starter, in what squares thought might be an easy win, but Colorado's hitters had another thought - nothing is for sure in baseball.
Well, tonight, tomorrow - the entire weekend - it's about revenge.
And that's why my free pick for Friday is on the Diamondbacks. And I won't bother listing pitchers, because it shouldn't matter. Greinke might want revenge, but this is a team thing. And if anyone is scratched, I still want you on the game, so be sure you bet this straight.
The Rockies enter the series losers in six of their last 10, and an ERA of 5.48 ERA in that span. Arizona's offense should thrive with plenty of motivation, led by Ketel Marte, who has a team-high on-base percentage of .355 and 20 home runs. He also has 57 RBIs. Colorado's pitchers should also be wary of Eduardo Escobar, who has 15 hits and is batting .417 over the last 10 games for Arizona.
This, essentially, is a battle for second place in the National League West, as two games separate the second-place Rockies and third-place Diamondbacks - both of whom are well behind the league's best team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Revenge is a dish best served cold, in the heat of the desert.
Take the Diamondbacks.
