The Indians were one of the hottest teams in the league going into the All-Star break and will return from the 4-day break riding a 6-game winning streak and own a 21-8 record over their last 29 games. What was once a double-digit deficit in the AL Central is down to 5.5-games and you know they have had their eyes set on this series at home against the Twins.
Cleveland will send out Mike Clevinger, who has to be itching to get back on the mound after his final start before the break. Clevinger allowed just 4 hits with 9 strikeouts in 6 shutout innings at KC. Clevinger has made 2 starts at home in 2019 and has not allowed a run in 12 innings (only given up 2 hits).

Jason Vargas (3-4 3.77 ERA) of the New York Mets goes up against Caleb Smith (4-4 3.50 ERA) and the Miami Marlins. Vargas has rebounded nicely this season after a terrible 2018. He has quietly been the Mets best pitcher this season. The Mets had a rough month or so heading into the All-Star break, but I expect them to come out big in the second-half looking to salvage their season and try and make a late run. Going up against the lowest-scoring offense in baseball, I like Vargas to put together another solid outing as the Mets bats provide plenty of run support to get the win. The Mets are 10-4 SU in their last 14 games against the Marlins. Miami is 1-6 SU in their last seven games.

Don’t look now but the resilient Cleveland Indians have won six straight to pull within 5.5 games of the Minnesota Twins for first place in the AL Central. Now they get to host the Twins on a long home stand coming out of the break to try and gain some more ground.
It starts tonight with Mike Clevinger over Kyle Gibson. Clevinger is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 0.500 WHIP in two home starts this season, pitching 12 shutout innings. He is also 1-1 with a 2.97 ERA in seven career starts against Minnesota.
Kyle Gibson has been much better at home than on the road for the Twins this season. He is 3-3 with a 4.47 ERA and 1.469 WHIP in nine road starts. Gibson doesn’t enjoy facing the Indians, going 3-9 with a 5.46 ERA and 1.617 WHIP In 18 career starts against them.

The Mariners are worth a shot today as big road underdogs to the rival Los Angeles Angels. Mike Leake has always been better than he gets credit for. He is 7-7 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 18 starts this season. Leake is 5-4 with a 3.71 ERA in nine previous starts against the Angels, including 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in three starts against them over the last two seasons. The Angels will be going with an opener in Taylor Cole and making this a bullpen game. The Mariners are 15-4 in Leake’s last 19 starts following a team loss. Atlanta will be out west tonight when they visit the Padres (45-45) in an interesting pitching matchup.
For the Braves (54-37), left-hander Dallas Keuchel (2-2, 3.60 ERA) will make his fifth start for the club after joining in June. Keuchel hasn’t faced San Diego since 2015, and has given up two earned runs in each of his last two starts.
Coming off Tommy John surgery, Dinelson Lamet (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will make just his second start in the majors since going under the knife. There appears to be very little hesitation for the right-hander, who hit 99 mph in his last start.
Lamet may very well enjoy solid run support at home this evening, as a few Padres have had decent success against the Cy Young-winning Keuchel in the past.
Against Keuchel, Eric Hosmer is hitting .300 in 10 at-bats, Ian Kinsler is hitting .286 in 21 at-bats, and Manny Machado is hitting .278 in 18 at-bats.
And the Padres have plenty of home run potential, with Hunter Renfroe, Franmil Reyes, and Machado hitting 27, 25, and 20 homers on the season, respectively.

I'll take my chances here with Atlanta at basically even money on the road against the Padres. Braves will send out one of their prized new toys in veteran starter Dallas Keuchel, who is quickly regaining his elite form after sitting out for a new deal. Keuchel has a 3.60 ERA in 4 starts, but has allowed a mere 4 runs on 10 hits in 14 1/3 innings over his last 2 starts. San Diego will send out Dinelson Lamet, who is making just his second start back from Tommy John surgery. Lament pitched okay in his first start at LA before the break and I think it has him a bit overvalued going into this one. It's going to be a little bit before he's in midseason form. This Atlanta offense is really strong, averaging more than 5 runs/game. Padres are also just 23-24 at home, where they are scoring a mere 3.9 runs/game. Give me the Braves -103!
