Comp play for Friday night goes on the Red Sox and the Orioles to hold Under the total in the first of three from Camden Yards.

Boston heads to Charm City having played their last pair of games Under the posted total, while Baltimore has played 3 in a row Under, and have held Under the total in 7 of their last 9 games overall.

David Price opposes John Means, and Price sports an low ERA of 2.25 over his last 3 starts, and does own 7 scoreless frames fired against the O's in his lone start against them back in April.

John Means sports a 2.94 season ERA, and has seen 9 of his 15 starts this season land Under the total. He is also 1-1 with a 2.12 ERA in his 3 starts this season against Boston.

I expect the pitchers to keep the hitters bottled up and on the quiet side tonight in the series opener.

Play Boston and Baltimore to hold Under.

    2* BOSTON-BALTIMORE UNDER

Friday's comp play is the Cardinals to dump the Reds one more time.

St. Louis fought back from an early 3-0 deficit last night to win the first of four games at Great American Ball Park, 7-4, and I like them to win again tonight versus the backsliding Red Legs.

Cincinnati has now lost 3 straight and 5 of their last 7 since coming out of the break, while St. Louis is on a 5-2 spurt since coming out of the break.

The Cards win last night made it 4-1 the 5 series meetings, and have also won 5 of the last 7 in this year's season series.

Adam Wainwright is coming off a commanding win his last time out, with 7 scoreless innings pitched against Arizona, while Tyler Mahle just gave up a career-high 10 runs - 6 of them earned - in a loss to Colorado his last trip to the bump.

This one shapes up to be a big win again for the Redbirds.

      5* ST. LOUIS

My free play is on the Toronto Blue Jays against the Detroit Tigers, and I'm playing this one on the run line.

MAKE NOTE: All Run Line/Total plays automatically list pitchers with the starters who are scheduled to go at the time of the wager, and I want you to be sure the following pitchers are the starters of record on your ticket when making your play: Marcus Stroman and Jordan Zimmerman. If one or both of these pitchers is not going, this is a no-play.

Toronto's hitters arrive in Motown and catch Zimmermann at the right spot, as he's 0-6 with a 7.01 ERA this season, and steps to the hill after being embarrassed on Sunday, when the Royals hit him for seven runs in four-plus innings.

I'm not sure where he's faltered, but he's digressed, rather than improving lately, having allowed 14 runs on 21 hits over 7 1/3 innings in his past two starts. His pitches have no life, and he's getting nothing done with his location. Making mistakes against a potent lineup like Toronto's will result in another rough go.

I'd rather back Stroman, who has made four starts against the Tigers in his six-year career and will make his first-ever start in Detroit tonight. He held these same Tigers scoreless over seven innings on Opening Day in Toronto, and though he is just 5-10 this season, his durability has been commendable, and 3.25 ERA is outstanding considering the division he pitches in.

I'll take the Jays run line and insist your ticket includes Stroman and Zimmerman.

          COMPLIMENTARY WINNER

My free play for tonight is a pricey one, but there really isn't anything else I like tonight, and you've got to have a free play, right? So I'm playing the New York Yankees on the run line, at home, against the Colorado Rockies.

IMPORTANT: As you know every single Run Line play and Total wager will automatically list the scheduled starting pitchers at the time of the wager. But with this game I am not concerned with who is pitching for either team tonight and want you playing this game on the Run Line regardless. That said, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be sure you have action even if one of the pitchers scheduled to start is scratched, by betting the game over again in the event that takes place.

The Rockies are two entirely different teams at home and on the road. Where as they have the No. 1 offense with a .307 batting average in the rarified air in Denver, their average plummets to dead last with a .221 road clip.

They have the highest tally of runs at home (332), but on the road have scored the sixth-fewest in baseball, with just 195. That Mile High air is all the Rockies have going for them.

None of that bodes well against a Yankees team that has the third-highest run production in baseball, with 535, and the league's sixth-highest batting average (.265). They also have the eighth-lowest ERA (3.99), and are one of just eight teams with an ERA lower than 4.

Play the Yankees on the run line tonight.
