The Rockies snapped a six-game losing streak in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Yankees as Colorado travels to Washington tonight. The Nationals return home from a 5-4 road trip capped off by a 7-1 loss to the Braves last night. Washington has been up and down recently since a 12-2 stretch from late June through right after the All-Star break, but most of the damage was done against last-place competition. The Rockies have stumbled recently, but this team has the potential to bust out and go on a hot streak to get back into the Wild Card race.
MLB - Pittsburgh Pirates +101
The Cardinals have caught fire of late by winning seven of their last nine games, including a series victory at Cincinnati. St. Louis heads to Pittsburgh tonight to square off with the Pirates for the second time in the last week as Bucs lost two of three at Busch Stadium. Pittsburgh looks to bounce back off a rough weekend against Philadelphia by losing two of three games, while scoring one run in each of the two losses. Trevor Williams tries to get on track after allowing 8 ER in his last start at Chicago, but the Pirates are 3-0 in his last three starts at PNC Park.

Adrian Sampson is back in the rotation and he is 3-5 with a 5.89 ERA in 12 starts this season. On the road, he is 1-4 with a 7.64 ERA. Marco Gonzales is 10-8 with a 4.48 ERA this season and 4-3 with a 3.35 ERA in eight starts against the Rangers. The Rangers have lost seven games in a row, and they are 19-28 on the road. Take the value in the Mariners.

In his last start, Daniel Poncedeleon gave up four earned runs in 3.2 IP. In Trevor Williams’ one start against the Cardinals this season, he gave up one earned run in seven IP. The Pirates have not been playing well, but they finally return home where they are a respectable .500. They are 4-5 against the Cardinals this season and 8-5 when Williams starts. Take the value in the Pirates at home.

In one start since being recalled, Erik Fedde pitched six innings giving up one earned run, but most importantly no walks. In seven starts this season, Peter Lambert is 2-1 with a 6.06 ERA. This is a matchup between arguably the hottest and coldest teams in baseball right now, with the Nats going 33-15 in their last 48 games and the Rockies going 3-7 in their last 10. The Rockies are 14-23 as the road dog while the Nats are 22-14 as the home favorite, and the Rockies are 2-5 when Lambert starts.

Rangers starter Adrian Sampson is 1-4 with a 7.64 ERA on the road, which includes batters hitting .338 against him. He sports a 12.96 ERA this month. Back the Mariners to send Texas to its eighth straight loss.

Ivan Nova is a back-and-forth disaster for the White Sox. He has a 5.86 ERA through 20 starts, and yet seven times he's held the opponent to one run or fewer. Problem is, he's also allowed six-plus runs five times. But if there's one opponent he knows how to handle, it's the Marlins. During his time with the Pirates, Nova went 4-0 with a 0.98 ERA in four starts. Meanwhile, Trevor Richards is in a big funk -- his last seven starts for Miami, he's 0-6 with a 5.50 ERA. The White Sox offense is better than the Marlins across the board and they're at home. I'll take the leap with Nova.

The Indians have bounced back in a big way -- they are 28-11 since June 4 and are catching the Twins in the AL Central. Hitting-wise, they're batting a league-best .295 in the month of July and averaging 6.1 runs per game. Compared to the Blue Jays in July, they're hitting 40 points better, averaging one full run more with an OPS more than 100 points higher. Toronto ranks dead-last in offense at home, too, and to make matters worse, they face Mike Clevinger, who is coming off a one-run, 12-strikeout performance and mowed down the Blue Jays in his one start against them.

Adrian Sampson projects as a significantly below league average pitcher in terms of wOBA allowed. I have the Mariners winning 56 percent of simulations, making them a nice value at -115.

The Twins are one of the best teams in baseball against left-handed pitching, but they will be without C.J. Cron in the middle of the lineup tonight. The Yankees should run at least eight right-handed bats against Martin Perez who I project for a .350+ wOBA allowed. I have the Yankees winning 57 percent of simulations, making them a nice value at -119.
