STREAKING
Julio Teheran, Atlanta Braves (5-7, 3.42 ERA, $582): The Braves are doing their best to hold off the challengers in the NL East and Teheran’s month of July is a big part of that. The right-hander has been fantastic this month, with a 1.14ERA and a 0.89 WHIP, while limiting opponents to .188 batting average over that span. Teheran makes one final start this month against the second-place Nationals tonight in Washington. This game is basically a Pick’em with a total of 10.5.
SLUMPING
Griffin Canning, Los Angeles Angels (3-6, 5.15 ERA, $176): It’s been an up-and-down rookie season for the Angels’ young starter and unfortunately this is a down section. Canning has a 12.34 ERA and a 2.49 WHIP in his last four games (three starts), while opponents have a 1.009 OPS over that span. PHOENIX MERCURY AT WASHINGTON MYSTICS (-9.5, 158)
Both teams entered the break on three-game winning streaks, anchored by solid defending. The Mystics limited opponents to just over 72 points per game in regulation during that span, holding foes to a collective 40.6 percent shooting, while the Mercury checked opposing offenses to an average of 69 points on 38.5 percent shooting in those three victories.
Phoenix and Washington have talented frontcourts that can pile up the points, but these bigs will clash in the paint Tuesday. The Mercury give up only 23.1 points per game to forwards while limiting rival centers to just 12.7 per outing.
Washington has shut down centers, allowing a WNBA-low 9.3 points to the position, and have 6-foot-4 defender Emma Meesseman back in the lineup. She missed the last meeting with the Mercury (international competition) in D.C. on July 10, in which Phoenix’s All-Star center Brittney Griner dropped 25 points in 91-68 blowout win. Washington was also without star forward Elena Delle Donne for that game, so take the one-sided result with a few grains of salt.
With revenge fueling the Mystics and both teams flipping the switch to playoff prep, expect postseason intensity and a low-scoring result because of it.

DALLAS WINGS AT LAS VEGAS ACES (-12, 150.5)
After a wild weekend playing host to the annual All-Star events and the very best in the WNBA, the Aces now welcome the conference’s worst team to Sin City. Dallas, which has only five wins on the year, stumbled into the All-Star celebrations on a five-game slump.
The Wings have struggled to close out games but have put forth solid efforts in the first 20 minutes of those losses. Outside of a 52-29 halftime hole versus Seattle on July 12 (which started this five-game slide), Dallas has led after two quarters in three of those games while trailing by only four points at the break in its most recent contest (a loss to Phoenix).
Las Vegas isn't great defensively in first halves, especially in recent contests. The Aces have allowed an average of 40 points in the opening two frames so far in July and own an average margin of only +1.4 points at halftime on the season. Las Vegas is still without All-Star center A'ja Wilson (15.8 ppg), allowing Dallas to key on former standout Liz Cambage, who didn't make any friends on the Wings after forcing her way to Vegas after demanding a trade this winter.
The Wings will keep it close again after 20 minutes, with their methodical pace taking on a shorthanded Aces squad suffering from an All-Star Weekend hangover.

I like the price we are getting on the Colorado Rockies at home tonight over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are going to find it hard to be motivated the rest of the way because they are so far ahead in the NL West. It’s starting to show as the Dodgers are just 2-4 in their last six games overall despite being a favorite in all six games. And now they are heavy favorites again even with Tony Gonsolin making just his second start of the season. His first did not go well as he allowed 6 runs in 4 innings in a 2-8 loss at Arizona. Kyle Freeland is starting to pitch up to his potential for the Rockies after ra tough start. He just pitched 6 innings at Washington without allowing a single earned run last start. And Freeland has had great success against the Dodgers, posting a 3.40 ERA in eight previous starts against them. The Dodgers are 0-5 in their last five road games against a team with a losing record. Colorado is 9-2 in Freeland’s last 11 home starts against a team with a winning record.
