      Saturday, Aug. 17

The Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals will square off in D.C. on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. with RHP Jordan Lyles and RHP Anibal Sanchez hooking up. The Nats posted a 2-1 victory in the series opener behind LHP Patrick Corin, hitting the under for just the third time in the past seven outings while winning for the fifth consecutive game.

Milwaukee enters 4-0 in the past four games against a right-handed starting pitcher, but they're just 4-9 in the past 13 on the road vs. RHP. In addition, the Brew Crew have dropped five in a row on the road against teams with a winning overall mark. On the flip side, the Nationals have won five in a row, four straight at home and six in a row against National League Central Division opponents. They're also an impressive 10-4 in the past 14 outings by Sanchez, and 4-1 in his past five when working on five days of rest. The Nats are also 11-4 in the past 15 at home vs. RHP, and 36-17 in the past 53 overall against a righty.

The Dodgers and Braves continue their series at SunTrust Park in suburban Atlanta, and L.A. looks to keep their foot on the gas after posting an 8-3 win in the series opener to move to 3-1 on the current road trip. They turn to LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu to keep the good times rolling. L.A. is 8-1 over Ryu's past nine outings against teams with a winning overall record, while cashing in each of his past six against NL East foes. The Dodgers have also picked up 39 wins over the past 53 against teams with a winning overall mark.

As far as the Braves are concerned, they roll out RHP Mike Foltynewicz. While they're 5-0 across his past five outings, they're just 3-10 in his past 13 outings overall, 1-4 in the past five on five days of rest and 4-10 in his past 14 against teams with a winning overall mark. They're also 2-9 in the previous 11 starts by Foltynewicz at home against tems with a winning overall record, while winning just one of his past 12 appearances against NL West clubs. They're also 0-4 in his past four showings against the Dodgers. L.A. has won four of Ryu's past five against Atlanta, while going 9-3 in their past 12 trips to Hotlanta.

Marlins RHP Hector Noesi faces Rockies RHP German Marquez as the 1993 MLB Expansion Teams do battle in Denver. The Marlins limp in with a 1-4 record over the past five, and they're 0-6 in the past six Game 2s or a series. They're also 8-20 in the past 28 vs. RHP, while going 18-48 in the past 66 on the road against righties. For the Rox, they're 8-3 in Marquez's past 11 home outings, 9-1 in his past 10 against losing teams and 5-1 in his past six inside the NL East. While they're just 11-28 in the past 39 overall, they are a perfect 5-0 in the past five against teams with a winning percentage under .400.

      Weather Report
The Astros and Athletics will be battling 10-13 mph winds blowing out to straightaway center field in Sunday's afternoon battle in the Bay Area. The Mets and Royals will be facing 9-12 mph winds blowing out to left-center field for their afternoon battle at Kauffman Stadium.

In Arlington, the Twins and Rangers will be battling a hot wind blowing in from right field at 11-14 mph. The Marlins and Rockies will also see winds blowing in from 10-13 mph, blowing in from left-center field. The good news is no one will be under the gun as far as precipitation is concerned.

      Sunday, Aug. 18

It's a lefty-on-lefty battle on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park as LHP Joey Lucchesi goes for the Padres against LHP Jason Vargas for the Phillies. Lucchesi is 7-7 with a 4.25 ERA with 125 strikeouts across 127 innings. The Padres have been skidding, and they're 0-6 in Lucchesi's past six outings, and 1-8 over his past nine. It isn't likely he'll be able to right the ship in Philly, as he has been a disaster on the road. Lucchesi is 6-3 with a 2.91 ERA across 74 1/3 innings at home, while going 1-4 with a 6.15 ERA across 52 2/3 innings on the road.

For the Phils, Vargas is 6-6 with a 4.03 ERA and .305 opponent on-base percentage across 111 2/3 innings with 88 strikeouts. In three outings with Philadelphia since coming over from the New York Mets, he has posted an 0-1 record, 4.15 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with two homers, seven walks and just seven strikeouts across 17 1/3 innings. He faced the Padres as a member of the Mets back on July 23, allowing just one hit, four walks and eight strikeouts over six scoreless innings in a victory.

Astros RHP Zack Greinke and Athletics LHP Brett Anderson tangle on Sunday afternoon in the Bay Area. Greinke has allowed seven earned runs and 14 hits with four walks over 12 innings in two outings with the Astros since coming over from the Diamondbacks in a deadline deal. Houston is 2-0 in his two starts with the team, but this will be his first outings inside the AL West. Anderson is 10-8 with a 3.95 ERA and a .308 opponent on-base percentage. He has just 71 strikeouts over 139 innings, as power isn't exactly his game. The A's are just 1-3 in his past four outings, and the A's are just 1-3 in his past four at home, too.

In the Sunday Night Baseball game in the Steel City, Cubs LHP Jose Quintana will face RHP Mitch Keller. Chicago has posted a 10-7 record, 4.11 ERA and .305 opponent OBP across 135 2/3 innings. He is 2-0 with a pair of quality starts on July 4 and 14 against the Pirates, including Independence Day at PNC Park. Chicago is 7-1 across Quintana's past eight starts dating back to June 22, and he is coming off a 14-strikeouts performance last time out in Philadelphia, a no-decision on Aug. 13. Keller will be making his fifth start of the season, and just his second since being recalled from the minors on Aug. 12. Overall he is 1-1 with a 7.94 ERA and .417 opponent OBP. He was muched better last time out, allowing two runs - one earned - and five hits over five innings in a win against the Angels on the road. It was Pittsburgh's first win in his four starts this season.

      Weather Report
For the second consecutive afternoon, the Mets and Royals will be contending with the winds. This time the winds will be blowing out from 11-14 mph to the left-center field power alley. The Twins and Rangers will also be facing a hot wind blowing in from right field at 10-13 mph for the second straight afternoon.

In the Bay Area, the Astros and Athletics will also be facing 11-14 mph winds blowing out to the left-center field power alley. For the second straight day, too, all MLB venues appear to be precipitation-free.

                      Saturday's Tip Sheet
                      Kevin Rogers

Note: Quarterback rotation subject to change.

                      Browns at Colts (-3, 43) - 4:00 PM EST

                      Cleveland
Head Coach: Freddie Kitchens (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Baker Mayfield, Drew Stanton, Garrett Gilbert, David Blough (Rookie)

The Browns dominated the Redskins, 30-10 in their preseason opener to easily cash as 1 ½-point favorites. Baker Mayfield connected on an early touchdown strike to Rashard Higgins, while Cleveland scored a pair of touchdowns on an interception return and a punt return. Cleveland's defense intercepted Washington three times as the Browns improved to 8-1 ATS in the last nine preseason contests since 2017. The Browns have won four consecutive road preseason games, while Cleveland has hit the UNDER in its last four Week 2 exhibition affairs.

                      Indianapolis
Head Coach: Frank Reich (3-2 SU, 3-1-1 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Jacoby Brissett, Phillip Walker, Chad Kelly

The Colts fell behind the Bills, 14-0 early and couldn't get over the hump in a 24-16 setback at Buffalo as 1 ½-point favorites. Andrew Luck remains sidelined for the Colts with an ankle injury that could keep him out of the regular season opener. Former Ole Miss standout Chad Kelly threw for 121 yards and rushed for a score in the loss for Indianapolis, as the Colts had their four-game ATS hot streak snapped. Indianapolis has dropped five straight exhibition games in Week 2, which includes three losses by one point apiece.

                      Patriots (-1, 41 ½) at Titans - 7:00 PM EST

                      New England
Head Coach: Bill Belichick (43-44 SU, 48-43-7 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer, Jarrett Stidham (Rookie)

The Patriots didn't mess around in their preseason opener at Detroit by blowing out the Lions, 31-3 as 2 ½-point underdogs. Tom Brady sat out for the Patriots, but the combination of Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns, as New England jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead. New England owns a 4-1 SU/ATS record in its last five preseason games, while the Patriots face the Titans in exhibition play for the first time since losing to Tennessee, 27-24 in 2007.

                      Tennessee
Head Coach: Mike Vrabel (1-4 SU, 1-4 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Marcus Mariota, Ryan Tannehill, Logan Woodside

Following an 0-4 preseason run in Mike Vrabel's first season as head coach, the Titans broke through in this season's exhibition opener by routing the Eagles, 27-10 as 1 ½-point road underdogs. Starting quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for 24 yards in his limited action, while offseason acquistion Ryan Tannehill was sharp by tossing two touchdowns and racking up 130 yards through the air. Former Toledo standout Logan Woodside also posted a pair of touchdown passes, as the Titans didn't allow a point after halftime. Tennessee didn't score more than 17 points in any of its four preseason games in 2018, while the Titans own a 2-7 ATS record in their last nine exhibition contests.

                      Chiefs (-2 ½, 46 ½) at Steelers - 7:30 PM EST

                      Kansas City
Head Coach: Andy Reid (39-42 SU, 37-40-4 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Patrick Mahomes, Chad Henne, Chase Litton, Kyle Shurmur

After allowing an early touchdown last week, the Chiefs ran off 24 straight points on their way to a 38-17 home blowout of the Bengals. Kansas City easily cashed as 3 ½-point favorites, as last season's MVP Patrick Mahomes was sharp in his limited time by completing all four passes for 66 yards. Former Marshall signal-caller Chase Litton threw two touchdown passes, while three different Chiefs hauled in touchdown grabs. Kansas City seeks consecutive preseason victories for the first time since 2016, while the Chiefs have won each of their last two Week 2 exhibition contests, each by double-digits.

                      Pittsburgh
Head Coach: Mike Tomlin (29-22 SU, 23-26-2 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Mason Rudolph, Joshua Dobbs, Devlin Hodges

The Steelers held off the Buccaneers, 30-28 at Heinz Field as Pittsburgh built a comfortable 30-16 lead before Tampa Bay scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes. Mason Rudolph threw a pair of touchdown passes in the win as the former Oklahoma State standout will start once again for the resting Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers have now eclipsed the 30-point mark in four of their last five preseason contests, while Pittsburgh has won four of its last exhibition games at Heinz Field.

                      Lions at Texans (-4 ½, 42) - 8:00 PM EST

                      Detroit
Head Coach: Matt Patricia (1-4 SU, 1-4 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Matthew Stafford, Tom Savage, David Fales
Beat Writer Twitter Follow: Dave Birkett

It was an ugly debut for the Lions, who were routed by the Patriots at Ford Field, 31-3 as New England outgained Detroit by 366 yards. Matthew Stafford didn't suit up in the loss to New England, but the veteran Lions' quarterback is expected to see action early on Saturday. Detroit's offense hasn't produced many points under Matt Patricia in the preseason by scoring fewer than 17 points in four of five exhibition affairs. The Lions have never faced the Texans in the preseason, while taking on their first AFC South team in exhibition play for the first time since beating Indianapolis in the 2017 opener, 24-10.

                      Houston
Head Coach: Bill O'Brien (12-8 SU, 11-8-1 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Deshaun Watson, AJ McCarron, Joe Webb
Beat Writer Twitter Follow: Aaron Wilson

The Texans fell behind the Packers at Lambeau Field, 28-10 before scoring 16 late points in a 28-26 defeat to Green Bay. Joe Webb played the entire game at quarterback for Houston as the journeyman threw for 286 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. It is unknown if Deshaun Watson will see his first preseason action for the Texans, but it definitely won't be for long. Houston has won six of its last seven preseason games at NRG Stadium since 2015, including a perfect 5-0 mark against NFC foes.

                      Cowboys (-2 ½, 40) vs. Rams - 10:00 PM EST - In Honolulu

                      Dallas
Head Coach: Jason Garrett (12-22 SU, 10-21-3 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush, Mike White

The Cowboys and Rams head to Hawaii as the two playoff teams from last season combined for 12 points in their first preseason action last week. Dallas led San Francisco, 9-7 at halftime before the 49ers scored the final 10 points in a 17-9 home victory to cash as 3 ½-point favorites. Dak Prescott completed all four of his pass attempts, while Ezekiel Elliott remains out due to his contract dispute with the organization. The Cowboys are looking to snap a five-game preseason skid as Dallas last won an exhibition contest in the 2017 finale against Oakland.

                      L.A. Rams
Head Coach: Sean McVay (4-5 SU, 4-5 ATS in preseason)
Quarterback Rotation: Blake Bortles, Brandon Allen, John Wolford

The NFC champion Rams are patiently waiting for the regular season to begin as Los Angeles will sit stars Jared Goff and Todd Gurley once again this week. L.A. didn't put much effort into last week's 14-3 setback at Oakland as the Rams mustered less than 200 yards of offense. Former Jaguars' quarterback Blake Bortles will be making his second straight start after throwing for 50 yards in his Rams' debut last week. The Rams have lost four of their last six exhibition games, while scoring 10, 7, 0, and 3 points in their past four preseason contests outside of Los Angeles.

                        Year To Date

-- Favorites are 24-11 SU overall

-- The 'Under' is 20-15 overall

                        Analysis

                        Calgary (5-3)
suffered another setback in Week 9, dropping a 26-24 decision on the road against Winnipeg (6-2), although they were able to cover at 7 1/2-point underdogs. The Stamps have now covered in back-to-back games for the first time this season, going 2-0 ATS after a 1-5 ATS start. The 'over' result in Week 9 was a rarity, too, snapping a five-game under streak.

As far as the Blue Bombers are concerned, they were able to snap a two-game mini losing streak, including a loss to lowly Toronto (1-6) last time out. Despite the win, the Bombers are now 0-3 ATS across the past three games after a 5-0 ATS start. The 'over' connected for the second straight week, the first time that's happened for Winnipeg this season.

Friday night was a weird game in Montreal (3-4). Near the end of the third quarter the game between the home side Alouettes and Saskatchewan (5-3) was stopped due to lightning and heavy rain at McGill. The CFL has a rule that states if the game is more than halfway over and there is a weather delay longer than one hour, the game will be canceled. It's the first time in history that the rule has been put to the test, but the Roughriders were awarded the 17-10 victory after the hour, much to the dismay of CFL fans everywhere, at least those not wearing green. Speaking of green, none was exchanged on this game officially, as all wagers were graded 'no action'.

Ottawa (3-5) and Edmonton (5-3) were able to go the distance in a low-scoring battle at Commonwealth Stadium. The Eskimos have alternated wins and losses in each of their past seven outings, and they're just 1-3 ATS over the past four. Edmonton is a favorite of bettors at the window, however, as far as the total is concerned. The under has cashed in six straight outings after two consecutive overs to start the season.

For the RedBlacks, they have lost five of the past six games overall, but they have covered a season-high three in a row after kicking off the season 1-4 ATS. The under is 3-1 over their past four outings, too.

The BCLions (1-7) nearly pulled off the huge road upset in the CFL Hall of Fame Game at Tim Horton's in Hamilton. The Lions led throughout the game, nearly winning straight-up as 9 1/2-point underdogs (+320 ML). However, Hamilton (6-2) was able to rally for the 35-34 squeaker. The Tiger-Cats are 0-2 ATS over the past two after opening 5-1 ATS in the first six.

The Lions will get another crack at the Tabbies on Aug. 24 in Vancouver. The cover was the first for the Lions since June 29 in Calgary, snapping an 0-4 ATS skid. The 'over' is 3-0 in the past three for the Lions, and 6-2 in the past eight overall. BC has allowed 33 or more points in seven of their eight games this season.

                        Team Betting Notes

-- BC and Winnipeg battle on Thursday night, as the Lions try to finish off a huge upset this week. However, they're just 2-5 ATS in the past seven on the road, and 1-4 ATS in the past five against teams with a winning record while going 2-9 ATS in the past 11 overall.

-- The Bombers have covered 11 of the past 16 overall despite their Week 9 non-cover, and they're 6-1 ATS in the past seven at home. In this series, Winnipeg is 4-1-1 ATS in the past six at home vs. BC, while going 9-2-1 ATS in the past 12 meetings overall in this series. The over is also 8-2 in the past 10 meetings between the Lions and Bombers, including 5-2 in the past seven battles in Winnipeg.

-- Edmonton travels to Toronto looking to snap their alternating win-loss pattern. The Esks are just 1-6 ATS in the past seven games on the road, while going 1-4 ATS in their past five in the month of August.

-- Toronto is coming off a bye, and they're 6-1 ATS in their past seven following the off week. They're just 3-8 ATS in the past 11 games overall, however, and 1-5 ATS in the past six against teams with a winning overall mark. They're also 0-6 ATS in the past six following a cover in their previous outing. In this series, Toronto is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings, while the over is 10-4 in the past 14 meetings and 5-2 in the past seven in Toronto.

-- Hamilton and Ottawa lock horns in the nation's capital. The Ti-Cats are 1-4 ATS in the past five games on the road, while going 2-5 ATS in the past seven against East Division teams. They're also 0-3-1 ATS in the past four in the month of August.

-- For the RedBlacks, they're 7-3 ATS in the past 10 against teams with a winning record, while going 5-1 ATS in the past six against East teams. Ottawa has also covered four straight meetings with Hamilton, while the over has cashed in seven of the past eight meetings in Canada's capital city.

-- The Alouettes look to rebound after a difficult loss against the Roughriders last week in that weather-shortened game. They face a tough trip to Calgary. Montreal is 9-2 ATS in the past 11 road games, while connecting in eight of their past 10 against winning teams.

-- The Stamps are 1-4 ATS in the past five against losing teams, and 1-5 ATS in the past six following a straight-up loss. However, they're 24-7-1 ATS in the past 32 games in the month of August. The under has been the way for both teams lately, going 10-4 in Montreal's past 14 road games, and 5-1 in the past six overall for Calgary. In this series, the under is 8-2 in the past 10 meetings, including 4-1 in the past five in Calgary. Montreal has covered eight of the past nine meetings with Calgary, too.
