The Arizona Diamondbacks are making a run here at the end of the season to try and get a wild card. They are 7-1 in their last eight games overall and only 3.5 games back. The Padres have little to play for at this point as they are 10 games back in the wild card.
Merrill Kelly has been at his best at home this season. He is 4-5 with a 3.82 ERA and 1.195 WHIP in 13 home starts. He’ll be opposed by Ronald Bolanos, who will be making his major league debut for the Padres. The native of Cuba will be making the jump straight from Class A to the majors, and I just don’t see it going well for him tonight.
Plays against road teams (San Diego) - a cold hitting team that is batting .230 or worse over their last 20 games after a game where the bullpen was rocked for 6 or more earned runs are 41-16 (71.9%) over the last five seasons. Bet the Diamondbacks Tuesday.

Coming off a difficult three-game set against the Yankees, the Athletics (78-58) will be eager to prove they’re deserving of playoff baseball in a new series against the visiting Los Angeles Angels (65-73).
Oakland holds a slight advantage offensively, but its on the mound where this A’s team excels much more than their opponents tonight. With a seventh-best 4.06 ERA, Oakland is nearly a point better than Los Angeles’ 5.01 team ERA.
That pitching disparity should be on full display as Athletics right-hander Mike Fiers (13-3, 3.40 ERA) goes up against Angels right-hander Jaime Barria (4-7, 6.10 ERA).
Starting with a no-hitter against the Reds back in early May, Fiers has gone 11-0 with a 2.41 ERA in his last 20 starts. Throughout that period, Fiers has thrown 83 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .214 average in 127 innings.
Barria hasn’t been nearly as good as Fiers recently. Over his last six starts, Barria has posted an ERA of 4.66. His last time out, Barria gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Astros.
In their last 62 home games against teams with a losing record, the Athletics are 45-17.

Oakland should have no problem cashing in a winner at home against the Angels. Big bounce back spot for the A's after losing the final two games in walk-off fashion at New York.
Oakland got Monday off to regroup and that's worked wonders for them, as they are 8-2 in their last 10 following an off day.
A's are also 22-6 in their last 28 following a loss and have just the guy to get them back on track starting this one. Oakland gives the rock to Michael Fiers, who is 13-3 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.145 WHIP in 27 starts this season. His team has won each of his last 7 starts and he's not suffered a loss (via decision) since the 1st of May.
Angels counter with Jaime Barria, who has a very uninspiring 5.03 ERA and 1.324 WHIP in 7 road starts. LA is just 1-6 in his last 7 starts vs a division opponent and have lost each of his last 5 starts overall. Take Oakland!

This might look like a steep price to pay for a runline favorite, but note that the Los Angeles Dodgers opened this series with a 16-9 triumph on Monday and I don't think they'll have any trouble to score runs tonight either.
Rockies' right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez (0-6, 8.07 ERA) has been as poor in his nine outings this season as the record and ERA would suggest. Last time out, Gonzalez was tagged with seven runs on as many hits while recording just two outs. He has made eight starts this year, and the Rockies have failed to cover the runline in all of those games.
As for Dodgers starter Julio Urias (4-3, 2.53 ERA), he has made just six starts this year, but Urias has put in plenty of work as a reliever and a sub-three ERA over 67-plus innings of work is impressive.
