I like the Canadiens to go on the road and get a win over the Sabres on Wednesday. Montreal enters off a 6-5 win ato Toronto, while Buffalo fell 4-3 at Columbus for their first setback of 2019.
Canadiens will have Keith Kinkaid in front of the net and he's made life miserable on Buffalo. Kinkaid has made 4 starts against the Sabres and his team is 3-0-1 and he's largely responsible, as he has stopped 108 of 116 shots.
Home teams with a money line of -100 to -150 that are holding opponents to 2.4 or fewer goals are just 15-34 against the money when coming off back-to-back games that went OVER the total. That's a 69% system in favor of the Canadiens to win the game. Take Montreal!

On Wednesday night we get a Metropolitan clash between the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia Flyers playing in their home opener, after opening the season in the Czech Republic. The line for this one opened with the Flyers a -125 home favorite, and we're seeing the early money bet that line up to -135. The over/under is set at 6.
The Devils come into this with 2 losses on the young season, one of them coming in overtime. The Flyers have only played one game thus far and it was an overtime win at over the Blackhawks (4-3).
Carter Hart should get the start in net for the Flyers. In 2018/19 he was 16-13-1 with a 2.83 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in 31 games as a rookie. He still just a "kid" and no doubt there's a lot of pressure on him playing in the Philadelphia hockey market, but I think he's up to the challenge. In net for the Devils we should see Cory Schneider. He had a 2.46 GAA and .921 save% in 17 games after the NHL All-Star break and will look to build on that in 2019. It's possible the Devils throw out Mackenzie Blackwood as well though. I don't see either of these two being up able to hold the Flyers top 2 lines off the score sheet in this one though.
Giroux, Hayes, and Voracek can get it done out there for Phili, plus if they get the man advantage I love the additions of Gostisbehere and Van Riemsdyk to the mix on their first power play line. This team should score goals in bunches. The checking line of Coleman, Hughes and Simmonds for the Devils will have their hands full, and it will be interesting to watch Hughes, the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NHL Draft playing alongside Simmonds in his return against the Flyers (his old team).
Some trends to consider. The Devils are 6-20 in their last 26 vs. Eastern Conference. Devils are 14-37 in their last 51 road games. The Flyers are 11-4 in their last 15 games as a favorite. Head to head the Devils are 0-4 in their last 4 games as an underdog. In March of 2018 the Flyers won their last head to head matchup 6-3 and I think that's close to the score we'll see on Wednesday night in Phili.
