With high hopes of making noise in the Western Conference, the Jazz (0-0) are set open the season by hosting the Thunder (0-0) in Utah. The over/under is set at 223.5 points.
Oklahoma City will open the 2019-20 season with an unrecognizable roster compared to last year’s. Receiving draft picks and Chris Paul in return for their trades, the Thunder experienced the departure of Paul George and Russell Westbrook, who both led the team in scoring a season ago.
Don’t expect the best version of Chris Paul, who averaged 15.6 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game last season.
And while the Thunder were moving backwards with an eye on the future, the Jazz were adding to a roster that finished fifth in the conference last year.
Although Utah parted ways with Derrick Favors, they added the talents of Bojan Bogdanovic and Mike Conley. That pairing will be added to the key pieces of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, forming a relatively complete team.
If Mitchell can take the next step and become the league’s next bona fide scoring talent who can place a team on his back and close games out, the Jazz have a legitimate chance to overcome the daunting duos in Los Angeles and Houston.
